@mopardude87

A lot of the x570 boards will not boot properly unless you properly populate all the auxiliary power connectors on the board. An adapter COULD work to get it to boot. I think? But if you're going x470 it might not be an issue.
I don't remember all the posts where this was an issue, but not sure they were all 570 boards. I swear some were the B450 ? I just say, better safe than sorry,.

Only thing at this point that would convince me is a video showing someone powering up such a config without the additional 4 pin. A tall order i know but honestly i wanna do it big and right, decided i guess unless i got confirmation 470 Taichi will post with just the 8 pin i guess i could play the waiting game and hope the original mobo i want or one similar will show up but who knows how long that may be.

I guess if my stimulus drops with my reg check tonight,i could just give TWO middle fingers to my current psu, grab a quality 850w unit with the dual 8 pin connectors needed .Then grab the Taichi and be done with it. Just nervous on the adapters, its like those old gpus which came with the molex to 6 pin connectors . I NEVER did that, i would be buying a new psu before considering using such a adapter. I assume this would be the same where its usable but not advisable.

All comes down to luck i guess and availability of funds and supply. So annoyed though i had my cart perfect with the x570 GB mobo and 3600mhz memory then OOS on EVERYTHING.

nvm ugh stupid Amazon posting Z390 boards in with X570 like really? I typed in X570 clearly, this is why i hate Amazon. I could look up a kitten and i get pictures of hitler in a bathing suit. So freaking useless that search........

Edit: fixed post

You know that is an Intel board, right?

Yeah see post above LOL. Yeah i typed in x570 into Amazon and i get ALL sorts of bull like X470 and Z390 mixed in. Since all the GB boards look so similar i saw the price and availability and harped on it of course distinctively thinking it was what i searched for which was x570.

Second edit: i guess i need to be a ninja with the current supply issue cause guess what just landed back in stock AGAIN? Yup this here X570 which i want more then any of the other choices.

https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-x570-aorus-elite/p/N82E16813145160

The one i wanted originally even though i was opting for the wifi version, i could make due without the wifi i guess. For the 3900x i had that one picked but the B450 option would only prob see a 3700x. Can't exactly lose between a 3700x/3900x option but the board choices have been wishy washy all day. Been mostly what i have been doing is eyeballing stock LOL.

I use wifi often and the stuff like on my z270 runs better then the usb stick i got as a spare. About to run a 100 foot cat 6 from the router right to my tower REAL soon so yeah i could go without the wifi. I only get like 150mbps out of the 400mbps currently here cause of how trash the wifi network/router is around here like yikes.

More about reliable performance so like my keyboard and mouse, i much prefer anything wired anyways.

Now its no more talking, i finally put the order in and its complete for the 3900x then got this motherboard and memory to go with it!

The board

The ram i changed last second but its second best from gskill besides Neo stuff for the 3600mhz stuff

When stimulus comes in which i feel is today, i could get the NH-D15 then a 1tb MP600 and this rig is complete once Ampere drops Man i am so hyped for this upgrade, never been so excited for a AMD processor since my brief run in with a 1090t. The i5 2500 was simply a better processor so the 1090t went back but this time i know i did alright.

Running into another issue where conflicting information says my single 8 pin cpu connector may cause conflicts with a no boot given most boards require both 8+4 pin to work. Not sure if any sort of adapter is safe, and all the good options for a 3900x with only the 8 pin are currently all out of stock. Quite annoying as the GB x570 option i wanted went out of stock, then back in and now its back out. Same price as Taichi too but currently there is bad price gouging.

Mark has been in my IM helping me out a bit, my use case i am even contemplating other options honestly but sorta conflicted. Primarily a gamer first then folder, i do really nothing else tasking.

Thanks for your input about the ram, i used the gskill memory configurator and the best it offered on that Taichi was 3200mhz. I figured some kits maybe can do 3600mhz but like most configs its been a crap shot pretty much. The 3200mhz at least was guarantee and it was cheap enough too.

i run the x470 ultimate tachi just fine above 3200.. also why not upgrade your psu first since they dont change in price to often. im looking at evga g3 supernova but id sure love a go to recommendation that is solid like my hx850 corsairs have been (might as well just buy another corsair)

also maybe that mobo is great but check out the 25% neg reviews wow thats alot, most saying "died after one month" lulz im kinda a asrock fan and before that DFI, to bad they dont make any great DFI boards anymore.

200$ for a 1tb mp600 sounds lil crazy too when the 2tb hp 950ex will do amazing and double the space (was 240 when i bought one but maybe 260 now) . (of course if you have two drives to copy the files back and forth then you will benefit from pcie4

Yeah my psu is fine for now and for the GB board i just ordered it should be fine especially since system will be completely stock besides XMP on ram. I plan to replace the psu when the 5000 series stuff drops. With luck that will be a entirely new build i plan to do then. Yeah i like the specs of the MP600 but will be looking into other options as well as its been a while since i did look honestly . When i go NVME i am going big to take full advantage of the slot its gonna sit in. 1TB will be more then enough for me but if the 2tb you mentioned isn't that bad off i will consider it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: sent ya message not to derail thread but i stuck with my original choice. Message goes a bit more into detail.

So i am gathering up drivers currently for my usb so when i get the 3900x up and running i will have what i need. I guess the latest chipset drivers are worst performance wise so i read a few times i believe in this thread. If so anyone got links perhaps or suggestions where i would be best getting the chipset drivers from?

I figured i would reinstall windows, let it fully update then install those chipset drivers. Should i get PBO or no? I rather let it run stock cause it will be on the stock cooler a while but i forgot what else PBO may or may not be good for if anything. I usually use MSI AB and Rivatuner for my statistics and OSD and cpu-z to verify other things.

Thanks to anyone who can be of help here

I watched a video i wanna say it was from Gamers Nexus or perhaps Hardware Unboxed but they highly recommended getting from the AMD site but i am hearing some are suffering performance degradation on the latest idk if this is a case of YMMV or not though. A bit conflicted at this moment where to get them and what version.

Try to get the last chipset drivers before AGESA 1.0.0.4 came out.

Thanks i will have a look! Maybe the mobo site would be best, we all know how often they love their outdated stuff!

Edit: Yikes mobo site has some from July 5th of 2019, that is prob the first version that supported the 3900x as the cpu came out on the 7th. Well i was not wrong on my assumption that is for sure!

I did find this as well but there is a few releases for sure here. I would think the october 25th release would work best given the 28th was when that AGESA came out?

Oh you are right..
well i did see the newest bios for my asrock tachi is 3.9 so i looked at the youtube video showing the difference i noticed lower fps but a huge difference in cpu watts used, havnt upgraded it yet maybe it would be a good idea to do if i want to save power but bad if i want more FPS

looks like for the chipset asrock has

AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:19.10.16_19H1_WHQL

Windows® 10 64bit

366MB
2019/8/1
but amd site has

Revision Number
2.04.04.111
File Size
50 MB
Release Date
4/7/2020
so that is a good idea researching for your x570. mine is the x470 but also am curious.

Newegg your killing me This bundle is shipping from out of state with a eta of the 6th. Man i was hyped for a very possible Monday install but that is ok i guess. Usually things ship from same state and if i order on a Thursday night almost guarantee monday delivery. I may have work on Thursday so MAYBE i could get it on Tuesday, play with my new toys on Wednesday then hit work Thursday.

Congrats on your new rig, @mopardude87 ! I kind of "wasted" my stimulus money on a pair of $110 i5-4570 SFF refurbs, $160 on some GTX 1650 LP cards from MSI, and some $65 kits of 2x8GB DDR3-1600 RAM. All times two. Kind of a lot when all added up.

Gonna "do up" some budget gaming rigs for some people.

Didn't look like you wasted anything honestly $110 is awesome on those i5 rigs if complete, were they? If so then yeah those will be bomb systems. I have a spare i5 4670/gtx960 rig that destroys LOL at like 150fps at 1080p. Used to destroy BF4 but recently there has been some insane stutter i could never resolve from perhaps a W10 update or something. I had to then upgrade to this i7 7700k to stop that stutter.

Nice job on helping those who need budget rigs. I would prob wanna build rigs and sell them for the part value cause i like building computers but most of my money been tied up obviously on my own rig first. At least i always do the repairs for friends for free and they always bring me something fun or something of a challenge to fix. Computers are life to me honestly, no hobby better in the world for me.

Thanks for the congrats!

Well the universe must love me! I was expecting my stuff Wednesday with little play time before i MAY work Thursday all day just about. I am getting the stuff tomorrow so a day early!

I love how the package was gonna go out from out of state, then suddenly the tracking gets all weird and they decided to send me the combo from right here in my state! That was weird but very much welcomed. Now i get it like a day earlier to play with. Prob cause of that which shall not be named, maybe they rather rush me packages then have a package crossing the country taking up room in a UPS truck? Lots of ordering cause of those stimulus checks and it being so close to the 1st.

That is why i love Newegg, they go the extra mile. Amazon would have shipped it via smartpost or something VERY stupid. I seen packages zig zag across the entire country during stupid times like black friday .I would get it faster if Ben Frank delivered it via Pony express then the damn USPS or Fedex these days in my experience. The thing will sit in particular locations for DAYS at a time via smartpost before moving, like geezus good thing i got no deadlines here!

I spent the weekend putting together a 3600 system for a friend, and I must say I am very impressed, as I thought I would be.

Paired it up with a MSI B450 Mortar MAX, 16Gb of GSkill 3600 ram at C16, 1TB Western Digital Blue N550 SSD and everything has been flawless and so fast.

This was the first time I have installed Windows off a USB stick, so I was nervous about whether it would work or not, but it went very smoothly.

I nearly doubled up my friends order and get myself a 3600 system too, but I am now going to wait for Zen 3 / Ryzen 4000 and see what that looks like.
