Since you already have a TR4 board, I would see what deals you can find. I just got a 2990WX WITH a heatkiller IV waterblock for $1200. I can sell my old water block for $100, and so for $1100, I have 32 cores and 64 threads. Strongly leaning towards the 3700X. Love the low power and should be a solid upgrade from my 3770K.
Already picked up 32GB of DDR4 and a 2TB NVME (spacing out my spending). Just waiting to find the right mobo and will revel in tearing apart my system to rebuild it with several new pieces. Also have to figure out what to do with my old parts. Either repurpose into a itx build, or just hold onto them for a later project.

I imagine at launch, the motherboard manufacturers will likely launch some of their pricier offerings at first. There is an early adopter "tax" for getting the newest tech when it first launches.
But after 60-90 or so days after launch, there will be numerous entry-level and mid-range offerings popping up. Then the B550 boards will come soon after that. Just like happened with the X470 and B450 launches.

Does anyone see a real reason to get a 3800x over a 3700x? I would assume this is the same scenario that the 1700 was to the 1800x . lower TDP but doesn't mean anything can still overclock just fine. the 2700 however could not match the 2700x clocked easily.

Linus pointed out in his video the X570 stack is huge, and, board makers do not push that much if the CPUs are not going to sell, and, there are $200 starting Zen2, so, there have to be $100 - $140 ish boards at some point.
I could see a "budget" X570 with basic LAN, Audio, and I/O that *could* run a 3900X at stock speeds.

I think its going to be a bit of a wash. They still decided that the 3900x has the highest top clocks. So you run into a situation where on lightly threaded games the 3900x wins and on highly threaded games the 3800x wins, which in retrospect is counter intuitive.I'll probably build at least one 8c/16t Ryzen 3000 series rig with X570 board and wait for the 16c/32t parts to upgrade my others.
I suspect the single chiplet configuration will be best for gaming. If that turns out not to be true then I would consider 12+ cores.
My ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F ATX board has two M.2 PCI-E 3.0 x4 sockets. So yes, two full-speed ones. I have two Intel 660p 1TB NVMe SSDs in them, in RAID-0, just for kicks. (Gotta tell myself to install a 4TB HDD in there, and set up daily backups from SSDs to HDD with Macrium too.)The main reason I never upgraded to a 2700X build was because of AMD motherboards only having one full speed M.2 slot, and I need two.
Going back and forth between 3600x/3700x/3800x now. The only demanding thing I use my computer for is gaming (Total War, Fallout 4, Xcom, etc). So I'm leaning toward the 6 cores, but I also know I'll be keeping it for years. Hell, I'm still on the 2500k I picked up in Fall 2011. It'lll be matched with a 2080.

That was NOT in his post. Maybe in the link, but we don't all click on every link.The most important piece of information that needs to be disseminated from that article is motherboard makers will include badges / stickers to signal compatible motherboards on the shelves.
