Up and running. Will see how it goes. Must say I'm disappointed in Newegg. The 3900x and the CVH8 Hero wifi has a $20 bundle discount. Newegg didnt give it to me. the offered a 10 gift card. From now on i may get my mobo and cpus from my local Microcenter since they seem to offer better discount on bundles.

Anyway cpu temps seem to hover around 40 to 50 c according to Asus monitoring software. We will see how this puppy runs the next couple of weeks.

Running 16GB of Gskill ram. Anyone think running 32GB of ram would be better?

I support my local Microcenter whenever I can. They have saved my bacon with same-day parts more times than I care to mention, so I give them business whenever i can.

Mark, do you think the problems are mainly just with the 3900X or for all Matisse on Asrock boards? I picked up a 3700X today and was planning to install it soon. But it sounds like you are having some serious issues, is this at stock btw?

Just installed my 3700X on my ASRock Fatal1ty B450 Gaming-ITX/ac and everything seems OK except the 75MHz below max single core turbo issue. However, I can't seem to OC my RAM with the same settings as before and the Ryzen RAM calculator doesn't seem to be helping... XMP does work fine though. AGESA on this board is 1.0.0.1. Also, this CPU does run a bit hotter than the 2700 it replaced.

Well, I took the memory down to 2933 and its more responsive, but still horrible benchmarks on memory 145 ms latency ???? And response time just typing is horrible. Something is wrong. Its not the 3900x, as I have it in another box, but thats an ASUS. And I get a message from aida64 that my cpu is not recognized, same 6.0 version as above.

This bios sucks.

@Shmee , yes, stock except xmp2.0 profile with 3600memory@3200. Will post a screenshot of the horrible latency.

4x8GB Samsung B-Die @ 3733 CL16 (Auto subtimings):

Not bad. I was going to ask you to bench 2x8GB vs 4x8GB with the same settings but from other AIDA64 posts in this thread, there doesn't seem to be any major changes there. I'm wondering if Matisse gets a boost from running dual-rank DIMMS and/or populating 4 slots . . . and it looks like that's a "no" at least on the 4-slot configs (using single-rank DIMMS per slot).

Its the bios. it sucks. 3.43

Gonna have to agree with you. I was worried that ASRock would do a poor job supporting their older boards.

It gets wierd... I lowered the memory to 2666 and I got LESS latency, but the memory speed is almost the same. And responsivenes is WAY better.

This bios is fubared, no more ASRock boards for me.

Yep, already been down that road...

Edit: That said, that's only ComboPI-AM4 1.0.0.1 (!). Not even 1.0.0.2 ComboPI-AM4 AGESA, which is in my Gigabyte B450 board F40 BIOS, which is itself screwed, as far as SoC SATA and NVMe ports, but other than that, it boots, and kinda boosts, well, not really, but it hits ~4.2Ghz @ idle. (1.45V!)

You have no L3 cache?

ASRock, why you gotta be like that? And here I was thinking that Summit Ridge support on my X370 had gone to pot. Woof.

Updated my X370 Prime Pro to Asus BIOS 5008 (from two weeks ago) in preparation for a new CPU, now I'm having some weird issues with memory.

I saw a small decrease in performance in Cinebench R20 on my R7 1700 @ 3.8Ghz vs. the previous BIOS I had (which was from 2017) but I'm not worried about this as I'm presuming it's due to some vulnerability mitigation.

This is the memory I am using. As you can see it is supposed to be able to do timings in the range of 15-15-15-35.

On the old BIOS I was never able to get the RAM to run at DDR4-3000, it always just wanted to run at DDR4-2933 or it wouldn't boot. This isn't a big deal so I was fine. However, with the new BIOS, I can boot with a D.O.C.P./XMP profile at DDR4-3000 with 15-17-17-35 timings.

With this timing, it boots with no issues on the new BIOS, however there is a massive performance regression vs. 2933 with the relatively poor auto timings. Specifically the benchmark I was testing with was Superposition, which is supposed to be a GPU-focused benchmark, but with 3000Mhz/15-17-17-35 config I was seeing the GPU get significantly bottlenecked (85% utilization) and a 15% decrease in performance vs. 2933 with the auto timings. (Gigabyte Gaming G1 GTX 1080, at stock clocks it's usually around 7000 points in the 4K/optimized test and with the D.O.C.P. timings I was getting around 6000 points).

So I have a few questions:

1. Am I just a dumbass and I'm doing something wrong?

2. Are the issues due to the IMC on the CPU and they'll be fixed if I buy a new CPU?

3. Are the issue due to the board just being not that great with memory (something I've seen others complain about)?

4. Should I just buy new memory along with my new CPU?

Thanks in advanced, I'm a noob when it comes to memory overclocking and tuning timings.

You might have the "dreaded" Hynix chips on those sticks, I have a few kits of cheap Hynix stuff, and due to the math of memory dividers / ratios and what not, they will only run at 2933, not 3000, it is a Ryzen thing, due to Infinity Fabric.

You may be able to to set higher timings and OC the frequency to 3200 with a voltage bump.

Quick rundown of my experience.

Put my build together, Right outta the gate, PSU is a dud. Throw in old PSU which lacks an extra 4-pin for the CPU, but I can boot with the lone 8-pin.

Able to boot. Complete cloning to my new M.2 and am able to boot to it. Grab all other drivers and such and then the EZ Debug tells me my ram has crapped out.

Amazon 1-day new Seasonic psu and Corsair ram. It shows up after 8pm, but I had prepped for the new stuff.

Put in new PSU and boot. Ram is still crapped out. But just wanted to make sure. Swap in ram and finally get back in.

No benching or anything yet as I just wanted to get it up and breathe easier.

Side gripes: colorless audio ports really irritate me and who knew my Realforce keyboard would hate all USB 3 ports and require the use of a hub? Now I do. Win10 decides it fails every other boot.

I still yearn for a flawless building experience, but am very glad the mobo wasn't the issue as I am still shaky about AMD cooler mounting.

Time to try and sell some old tech.

Temps look rough, clocks look kinda low? Granted, it's only a Gammaxx 400 and a B350 motherboard.

Single core boost works as advertised!

Single-core boost is supposed to top out at 4.7 Ghz. Not 4.287 GHz. That board using an old AGESA version?

Also, have you tried disabling one chiplet to see how that changes CPU behavior?

Apparently there is a bug in Ryzen Master whereby disabling a CCD results in not being able to re-enable it until you clear CMOS.

Main point, this is a testing / shenanigans thing, going to see if my PCI sound card works.

Waiting on cooler and bracket for the real X570 setup.

This is 1.0.0.2 afaik, should look better, with 1.0.0.3.

I did see 4.5+ boost single thread on regular Windows usage.

Single core is 4.6, per the CPU box.

If I don't see 4.6 single on the X570 Aorus Master, then, I will be questioning it.

I'm a "little bit" jealous seeing everyone having their CPUs.
Following my order on AMD.com from europe, still no movement on the order ("processing").
The company behind the store is digital river. I found, through google because the AMD site is useless with just a FAQ, a system to send emails from a web page. Waiting for replies.

1000€, one week in, no news, for like their top CPU et top graphic card.
I feel disrespected, kinda.

Also, the parcel with my motherboard and other half of my RAM has been stolen so amazon just sent another one, and my case has been delivered according to GLS, but no one knows whom to.

I'm gonna call this build : "my good luck charm".

Well seems like the Asus Aura software isnt working. The Rog lights dont work using either the bios or the software. Someone from another forum had the same problem and posted this

I got it working again, it's the AMD Chipset Driver causing problems.

What I did was a clean Windows 10 install, but I disconnected the network so there's no auto driver install.
Then I installed the Nvidia display driver and the Aura software no other driver, rebooted motherboard RGB started working straight away.

Not to mention I'm getting no WHEA PCI errors in Event Viewer, so I selectively installed certain parts of the AMD chipset driver (Missing hardware drivers only), all seems to be working well.

Prior to that the clean Windows 10 install I did I installed the AMD Chipset first then the Aura software, that's where it would error out and the Lighting service refused to start.
Dead set even the BIOS couldn't control the motherboard's RGB.

I don' want to do another reinstall so I will wait to see if updates help the the issue.

I hear ya on the 32GB DIMMS. I won't be running server loads per se, but the VMs I do use (and the number of instances) can be very resource hungry, core and RAM wise.

If you aren't wedded to the idea of needing 8 sata ports, that aorus master does have 6 sata ports and 3 M2 slots, and you only lose sata ports if you use the 3rd M2 slot.

I had a bad experience with a Gigabyte X370 Aorus board, so I’m a little reluctant to buy another Gigabyte. I had previously used a few Gigabyte boards over the previous years and liked them, but I as really disappointed by their BIOS in the X370 board and felt they weren’t truthful in the advertising.

The Asus CH8 is another board I’m looking at - good feature set and good aesthetics.

I think this could be a problem of ancient Aida64 not recognizing and benching properly?
