Yes, I think you're right.

The release of the Ryzen's has already caused a run on G.Skill Flare X. Newegg had the 3200CL14 B-die kits on a 7-day sale for $120 but it sold out in a day or so (and they removed the one I had in my cart. )

Meanwhile and possibly much worse, is this little trade dispute and its affect on Samsung and Hynix: https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019...ade-feud-erupts-between-japan-and-south-korea

So, if you need memory for your Ryzen 3000's...

Eh, go Crucial / Micron then, USA based.

Two of those to finally run Chrome properly.

You aren't kidding either. Chrome using 19GB of RAM on my machine right now. Even though I have 32GB right now, I am constantly dipping into swap. I'd like to go 128GB on my next build but not really in the mood to spend $500+ on memory so I will go for 64GB first and then add more later.

Unfortunately, Micron prices will also be affected if the japan/korea scenario continues to develop. The problem won't be that we can't get memory. The price will simply rise to balance supply and demand. Price will be the problem.

For insurance, I ordered an extra $81 Flare X 3200/c16 kit.

Does anyone here have a Ryzen 3800x? Does the much higher TDP rating and higher base clock of the 3800x mean that all-core boost clocks will be a little higher than the 3700x? 3700x turbos up to 4.4 GHz and the 3800x turbos up to 4.5 GHz but is the difference greater between the two once 8-cores are fully loaded? Also what does it mean in terms of gaming performance if the 3600x has 95 watt rated TDP and the 3700x has 65 watt rated TDP despite the 3700x having 2 more cores than the 3600x?

I had a minor epiphany. My Ryzen R5 3600, on a 95W stock Wraith Spire V1 (copper-cored) from a Ryzen R5 1600 CPU, idles (7-8% usage, on Skype) @ 65C. Seems... kinda high?

I know that I didn't mount it wrongly, or at least, I don't think so, because all four mounting screws bottomed out on the bracket. Maybe I didn't tweak them down in the right order, and the heatspreader got dented/shifted?

OR, maybe, the copper-cored heatsink, which supposedly uses a vapor chamber, according to another post on here, LEAKED.

When I took it out of the package, there was a discoloration around half of the copper core, as well as a streak leading into the factory thermal paste. Looked a bit like water/liquid damage.

A friend of mine who is from an HVAC background, said that vapor chambers often have a liquid. So possibly, mine leaked?

That might explain the poor temps, and high idle, if it's not transferring the heat from the copper slug to the Aluminum fins properly.

Anyways, I've got a Gammaxx 400 (actually, a couple) in storage, have to dig them out and install one of those, supposedly to be fairly highly-rated for the 3600 CPU.

I am still on the fence about the CPU. I am probably planning to get a 3700x, but would a 3800x be better with PBO? I would use on the X470 Taichi with current RAM. I don't need 12 cores, mainly just gaming here, but if the 12 core can boost higher or OC well, I could consider.

Looks like the high idle voltage is an ongoing issue with these chips. It seems it'll take a couple of weeks for these 'problems' to be ironed out.

What's your case temp and room ambient?

All vapor chambers and wicking heatpipes have a working fluid. If it's damaged or poorly-constructed then yes, it can leak.

Give it a shot.

What time frame are you operating under here? 3800x needs to be reviewed a bit more, and the X470 Taichi is badly in need of some more UEFI updates. There's a UEFI from the 7/9/2019 but it doesn't say what AGESA it uses . . .

Well I was possibly planning to pick up a 3700X tomorrow, as they are in stock at a local store (I think). I know that the board has 3.43 out now, which should be compatible with the latest CPUs, but you are correct that the Asrock site really doesn't say much about it.

Hmmmm. The 3800x certainly isn't going to be any worse (I don't think; if it is it will be quite the fiasco). Only review I've seen of it is a GB4 submission showing the chip beating a 9900KS with DDR4-2666 in MT while barely losing in ST. And the scores posted are slightly higher than the 3700x - but not by much. Example:

https://www.anandtech.com/show/14605/the-and-ryzen-3700x-3900x-review-raising-the-bar/11

vs.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/ryzen-7-3800x-vs-core-i9-9900ks,39872.html

Not a big difference. Those 3800x scores may be without AGESA 1.0.0.3AB and the new Ryzen balanced plan though.

I still have no news of my order.

Ordered a 3900x + 5700 XT AE on amd.com the 7th.
All in stock.
Order is still being "processed" on 14th ...
No mail contact available on the site, just some basic FAQ useless thingy.

Anyone knows a mail address that can be used to talk to a human being ?
I don't link 1000€ orders that don't seem to be moving.

Ordered a 3900x on Wednesday and was supposed to be here yesterday. I looked at FedEx tracking. It started in Buffalo, went way out to California, and is slowly winding its way towards Indianapolis and now shows delivery date as “Pending.” I mean, Indianapolis only has the second largest FedEx hub in the world, so silly me for thinking I might get it on time. Grrrrrr....

Anyway, I heard that there might be an X570 version of the Taichi Ultimate - has anyone heard this?

No, though I'm not sure what would be the purpose of said board if ASrock released it. Right now the Aqua and Creator are at the top of their stack (good luck finding anywhere to buy those). Below those you have Phantom Gaming X and Taichi that are . . . kinda the same board . . . electrically, anyway. What would they do with the Taichi Ultimate that would make it worth releasing?

That's really abnormal. I ordered Radeon VII from amd.com and got it lickity-split. Granted, I am in the US. They probably contract with a different company to handle those orders here.

The X470 ultimate has 10 Gb Ethernet and I was hoping for that on a board which isn’t $600+. I was also hoping (and this probably won’t happen) that it wouldn’t be as ugly as the regular X570 Taichi.

That's a possibility (wrt 10Gb). Good luck getting them to go back to the old aesthetics though.

Yeah, I know. Sigh.....

Seriously considered the Asus X570 workstation board but it has limited SATA ports and I may need 8 SATA ports. Considering using this as a machine to host my workstation VMs along with some SQL VMs to take the load off my primary server. I like the idea of populating it with those 32 GB DIMMs.

On asus c6h.1.0.0.2 bios, my 3600x under aio can consistently boast to 4.4. With PBO+200, hwinfo show max clock was 4450 overnight, but I never see it live.

Try to manual clock at 4.3 all core 1.33v, pass 5 mins aida stress I think. Try 4.4 all core at 1.38v, bsod loading windows. Try 4.4 all core at auto voltage, not POST. So back to auto oc.

Got my rig up and running late Friday night. I haven't really had too much time to play around and tweak it yet.

R5 3600
MSI X570 Gaming Plus
G.Skill Flare X 3200 CL14 (2x8GB)
XFX RX 5700
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB
Corsair RM 750x
NZXT H500
Arctic BioniX P140 (White) x2 fans as intake

Was gonna go for a B450 m-itx build, but my order reservation got canceled at microcenter.

I did the double dip $50 off cpu/mb combo and the $50 off cpu/gpu combo deal....Thanks microcenter!

Shooting for 3600 on my memory.

Updated my X370 Prime Pro to Asus BIOS 5008 (from two weeks ago) in preparation for a new CPU, now I'm having some weird issues with memory.

I saw a small decrease in performance in Cinebench R20 on my R7 1700 @ 3.8Ghz vs. the previous BIOS I had (which was from 2017) but I'm not worried about this as I'm presuming it's due to some vulnerability mitigation.

This is the memory I am using. As you can see it is supposed to be able to do timings in the range of 15-15-15-35.

On the old BIOS I was never able to get the RAM to run at DDR4-3000, it always just wanted to run at DDR4-2933 or it wouldn't boot. This isn't a big deal so I was fine. However, with the new BIOS, I can boot with a D.O.C.P./XMP profile at DDR4-3000 with 15-17-17-35 timings.

With this timing, it boots with no issues on the new BIOS, however there is a massive performance regression vs. 2933 with the relatively poor auto timings. Specifically the benchmark I was testing with was Superposition, which is supposed to be a GPU-focused benchmark, but with 3000Mhz/15-17-17-35 config I was seeing the GPU get significantly bottlenecked (85% utilization) and a 15% decrease in performance vs. 2933 with the auto timings. (Gigabyte Gaming G1 GTX 1080, at stock clocks it's usually around 7000 points in the 4K/optimized test and with the D.O.C.P. timings I was getting around 6000 points).

So I have a few questions:

1. Am I just a dumbass and I'm doing something wrong?

2. Are the issues due to the IMC on the CPU and they'll be fixed if I buy a new CPU?

3. Are the issue due to the board just being not that great with memory (something I've seen others complain about)?

4. Should I just buy new memory along with my new CPU?

Thanks in advanced, I'm a noob when it comes to memory overclocking and tuning timings.

That is pretty messed up! I ordered mine Wednesday as well, and they sent it out from NJ, so I got it Friday. Going from Buffalo to California and back to Indianapolis is like going around your elbow to scratch your butt.
