Asus and AsRock BIOS support, wtf happened? lol

Asrock has disappointed me with their X570 Taichi and I was considering the CH VIII Hero, but I think instead of buying something now or returning my 3900x, I may just hold on to it and wait 2-3 weeks before making a decision. The AGESA 1.0.0.3AB BIOS updates are starting to roll out now (I think Gigabyte and MSI have started), so hopefully Asrock won't be far behind and my X370 Taichi will get the update and I won't have to worry about a new board.

Does Newegg always package their stuff like crap? I bought a case off them and the entire side panel is smashed to bits. It looks like a herd of elephants trampled over it followed by a blue whale using it as a mattress.

Not that I had a CPU to put inside it anyway.....sigh...

Ugh sorry man. Last time I got a case from them (my Thor v2, in . . . 2016?) it came through just fine. No damage. That doesn't sound like them.

@IndyColtsFan

If you are looking for RAM to put in a Matisse system, I highly recommend Samsung M-die if you want 64Gb! Once ASRock gets their UEFI together (bleh) you should be able to hand-tune to DDR4-3333 pretty easily.

https://www.overclock.net/forum/180...b-unbuffered-dimm-not-double-height-dimm.html

Check it out.

In other news, my CPU comes in today. So much work left to do. So little time.

I have an unopened Ryzen 9 3900x sitting about 5 feet from me right now. To be honest, I'm seriously thinking about returning it and not going forward with a build until things calm down. The motherboard situation is a mess and I'm not sure about RAM either - I assume something like Corsair LPX @ 3200 will work at full speed, but who knows at this stage?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Not sure if you really want into that platform but me i would perhaps keep the 3900X and play around with a $149 2700 till a new Bios comes out? Its on Newegg for 5 more days. For that price that cpu is insane value and a nice toy to play with till you can properly use your 3900X again.

Dang this should be a Ryzen 3000 builders thread/discount 2000 series series cause between a $105 1600 a $149 2700 with xbox game pass and a $200 2700x there is enough deals on the 2000 series to make ya think about what to really use.

Do like I did and grab an old Amazon Warehouse B350 to play with while waiting for other parts to arrive!

Oddly enough, the Asus board was brand new, and the MSI board *looks* brand new, have yet to test it.

You would have to pull your 1700X to flash the BIOS on it though.

B350 works surprisingly well

@GhostPirateLeChuck

I never finished the OG version, got started on the remaster, I think I got stuck at the grog puzzle, lol.

Oh man, I forgot about that stupid puzzle with the melting mugs! Way back in the day, a buddy of mine owned a t-shirt shop, so we made a couple of Monkey Island shirts that had that recipe for grog on the back.

Wish I knew what happened to those...

IMHO, I think Gigabyte then MSI did it best this X570 launch.

Their board prices, market / product stack positions and BIOS support have been great.

The Gigabyte 12 phase entry level boards are hard to beat for the price.

Asus and AsRock BIOS support, wtf happened? lol

Yeah, I was going through some Gamer Nexus videos last night (while students were blowing up my iPad with notifications every 5 freaking minutes), and it seems like I may've inadvertently grabbed a good board. Tech Jesus was saying GB was pretty on the ball this time. All the problems with Asus were kind of surprising, but somebody had to be the turd in the punchbowl at this party, so I guess it was their turn?

edit: HA! I'm two for two on the profanity filter, lol! XD

3600 MHz CL15 with these sticks sounds too good to be true, even at 1.50V. Whether you want to run that much voltage is another. I'd like to see them with less voltages and relaxed timings.

I have been eyeing these sticks for a few weeks now waiting to see what kind of results people are getting. Based on what I've seen I am ready to buy but the damn price went up from $142.50 to $154.36 this morning Going to keep an eye on the price and see where it moves to, but if it was still @142 right now I would be in for two already...

Finally got my 3900X up and running but haven't had much time to fiddle with it. Now I'm reconsidering my choice of the X570 Prime Pro with all the issues people have been having with Asus boards...

<y ASUS board is much better than my ASRock board right now, due to the AGESA version. My x470 prime pro is the board I have thats doing pretty well.

The Asus X570 boards look to have the newer Combo Pi updates.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-X570-PRO/HelpDesk_BIOS/

FWIW, my test setup on 1.0.0.2 has been ok with the little bit I have gotten to do with it so far, but, I have left voltages on auto and PBO on auto.

AFAIK, the X570 boards get priority for BIOS updates right now, I think that is an AMD near mandate.

We users of anything lower than that are just testers right now.

OK, need to stop badmouthing ASRock, they sent me a link to download 3.46 BETA BIOS. Flashing it now, and will update one a few tests are done. This has 1.0.0.3ab AGESA. If this works, I don't think I would share, but go to their web site, and create a service request, and mention my results.

FIRST LET ME TEST USING IT.

Stay tuned

That's for the X470, right? If they need X370 volunteers.....

When I reply to the tech, I will ask about x370. I still have to flash that one, and I don't have a 3000 series to put in it yet, so not as big a deal.

NOW, Update, not done yet, BUT 3600 cl15 ram runs exactly at spec when you choose the XMP profile. Latency is still not great at 103(aida64 extreme), cinebench is right on target at 7180, single still running, but looking pretty good for 8 days after introduction. No instability yet either. What else should I test ?

Your latency is still really out of whack. You should be between 65-68ns rather than 100+.

Yes, my feedback to the tech is that latency is a problem, BUT all tests are WAY better, and stable at 3600 cl15, and all I did was select the XMP profile in bios, all others stock. First this:

Now the rest

So cinebench and memory read/write and cpu speed and stability (number one) are all VERY good. Latency is the only problem, I will take that for now.

Memory speed 52k/45k ? isn't that like matching the best ?

Remember, the disclaimer is its BETA, and its not even publicly available.

Just swapped my Prime X570-Pro back to my old X370 Taichi flashed to a 5.61 BIOS I found on overclock.net (not released on their website yet, 1.0.0.3 AGESA). I am perfectly happy with the X370 board, seems to run much more predictably. Idle and boost works as I expect it to, and somehow temps are almost 10C lower in OCCT Linpack despite holding the same boost clock (just over 4 GHz). Easily worked out of the box with my new 2x16GB Crucial 3200 MHz ram too.

The 570 board will be going back to MC ... that's $215 better spent towards a new GPU or something else entirely.

Sweetness. I just checked aorus.com, and my B450 PRO WIFI ATX has a 1.0.0.3AB AGESA BIOS update today! 'F41b'

Flashed it up, my two SoC SATA ports are BACK! Hooray!

I don't know about the boost stuff, haven't had much time to test that out yet. But I got my missing SATA ports / devices back, which is mostly what I wanted from a "fixed" BIOS release.

Still doing XMP DDR4-3000, across four Team Vulcan 8GB sticks.

See post #5417:

https://www.overclock.net/forum/11-...rock-x370-taichi-overclocking-thread-109.html

I ran Aida64 out of curiosity ... 80.8 ns latency. These are 2x16GB sticks running 3200 MHz 16-18-18. The post above says to expect in the 60 ns range, but no idea if he meant for the higher frequencies you are running. Either way, happy with it for now!

edit: I got 4830 in Cinebench all core, which roughly matches reviews for the 3700X on X570.

I wonder if lower speed/latency would help over cl15 3600 ? I am sure I could run cl14@3200

Mark, does the beta BIOS you got for your X470 Taichi seem good and stable so far? If so, could you send it to me? I have my 3700x right here but haven't even opened it. Have not flashed past 2.00 yet due to possible issues I am hearing.

Also, what are you cooling with on your Taichi? I will be going with an H110i GT when I get the bracket for it, but in the mean time I assume the stock cooler or the one from my 2700X should be good enough?
