Was led to believe by leaks and Adoredtv videos about 8C/16T for Ryzen 5 which did not come to pass. Yes IPC has increased by 15% which sounds great, and games don't require more than 12 threads but Zen 2 was made out to be some kind of revelation so that was exaggerated a bit. Overall a great product but the fact we're not moving beyond 6C/12T for ryzen 5(and 4C/8T for Ryzen 3) for atleast another year is slightly disappointing.

So what you are really saying is that you are "disappointed" because you get duped by Old Jim (not because of anything AMD did).

If you are here to complain about how "disappointed" you are because you were duped by Old Jim, you might as well take a marker and write "SUCKER" on your forehead because that's what the rest of us think you are.

No, it isn't: it's a fake.

The products don't even match the roadmap.

For example, the rumors has Zen 2 APU codename "Renior" in the lineup, but Renior isn't even scheduled for released until 2020.

I think you meant "Renoir" like the painter.

And yeah, the whole leak was BS. There might be some true bits regarding chiplets and whatnot, which however could be infered from info released about Epyc. The actual consumer CPU line-up with clocks and prices was totally made-up though. And it was obvious, no way those things were decided at that point in time, so distant from actual release date.
The Adored guy, though, was fairly spot on last year with his Turing leak, so he clearly has some sources here and there...but this time around, he was either fooled or just fabricated those leaks himself.

Actually here I figure intel has an advantage? Haven't played with either camps newest chips but the 9900k "factory OC" seems like an option ryzen should also have. AFAIK if you OCed a pinnacle ridge you lost all the power savings and other features?

An easy way to up all-core turbo at cost of exceeding tdp should be available hoepfully?

All you should need to do to get a 3900x (for example) to boost outside of its 105W range is to enable XFR. Then it's down to cooling and the boost map. Not sure how far a 2700x will go, but I'm pretty sure XFR can take it at least as high as 140W power usage (instead of the 105W typical of a 2700x). The 9900k is a bit goofy since it can go all the way to 210W via PL2. Not sure if XFR will go that far.

20 years ago to the day, my main PC had 32MB memory (later that year upgraded to a whopping 96MB). In just over a month you can buy a CPU with that 32MB as L3 cache. That is some food for thought. Improvements in hardware since then is just... I don't quite know if a simple insane covers it...

The first PC my family bought in the 90's had a 40MB HDD.
Interesting times indeed!

Can anyone explain the TdP differences between 3600X, 3700X, and 3800X?

This is a logical and very realistic assessment of the current situation. But we have one problem, to put it mildly VIA will not be happy.

Not more than the slides unfortunately. Wait for hands on testing for real world results, we should learn a ton leading up to launch hopefully

the average clock under load might be a lot higher (close to max turbo) on the 3800x, it's the only thing that would make sense.

1800x came out just little over 2 years ago at the same price point as 3900x.

3900x offers twice the performance.(nearly 20% IPC boost as well). Also this product will most likely take the overall performance crown and become the fastest mainstream CPU.

Nvidia would be charging you $1200 for this CPU. Intel is already charging a $1200 for a 12 core CPU which is slower.

It doesn't get more disruptive than this. AMD is not a charity.

We got clock bumps, 15% IPC bump, PCIe4, and 12 core option. All around solid release finally putting AMD on equal footing with Intel. The only issue here is that it did not live up to unrealistically overhyped expectations from AdoredTV.

Personally, I'm going to wait to see if there are any BF sales at my local microcenter, but that's only because I already have 1800x and 2700x. For anyone else still rocking 4-6 core intel offerings, this is a great time to jump ship to AMD.

Power envelopes!

The TDP has dropped from 180W to 105W, clocks have increased by >10% and IPC has risen by ~10-15%.

Yeah, i just dont think power consumption improvement by itself (if it does not indirectly lead to increased performance because you cram in more cores or at higher clocks or both) or 10-20 percent higher performance is THAT disruptive. Or better said, not as disruptive as 32C CPU at price of Intel 18C CPU... or 8C CPU at 1/3 price of Intel 8C CPU...

That said, if i have not already owned what i do, 3900x would be the CPU i would want. Or maybe, i would hold out for the 16C version. Bottom line, Intel is dead to me, until their 10nm. I dont even mind if its in 2022. cause i dont expect to upgrade before that. Then we shall see, what to get. At this point this looks totally like Athlon 64 scenario all over again, we shall see if Intel can trump this with another C2D ace

If AdoredTV's hoaxes don't exist, we would be talking about how AMD has managed another perfect execution under Lisa Su.

Instead, the hoaxes have dampen enthusiasm.

Well we have the highest participation in this forum on Rumors thread for upcoming products. People love to speculate and ride the hype train but almost always go overboard and set unrealistic expectations. People like to get high on rumors and leaks and the effect wears off when the product gets announced/reviewed

A 50w reduction in power, here in Calif with my average cost per kwhr of 20 cents is 24 cents for a 24 hr day, about $85 bucks a year.

It's disappointing if you, for some reason I'll never understand, took those "leaks" to be realistic. Looking at it with no preconceived ideas of what Zen 2 should be and I think it looks disruptive for HEDT, again. If you are a gamer with a 9700K/9900K then it may be disappointing.

Personally, I'm impressed that they're meeting Intel in performance with lower clock rates and lower power. That's what sells in data center (unless you run AVX512 code).

You do realize that there are plenty of other people on YouTube or other websites discussing AMD rumors right? Just like there are for every other company.

Why you seem so intently focused on this one guy is beyond me.

The real problem is not what AMD is doing.

It's Lying Jim making outrageous rumors, and now we have stupid threads like this.

I agree, as proved by mohits post a few below yours.

If people had ignored the fake news and just trusted AMD's own roadmap/marketing and announcements they people would be overjoyed, as they should be, Zen 2 so far looks great. Instead we have people dissapointed because they bought into fake news and are sad that zen2 didnt deliver on something it was never ever going to deliver on.

Currently on a 1700X on X370 Taichi, will wait for benchmarks but the 3900X seems very intriguing (especially with the monster L3 cache). However, I wonder if a 16 core part will be released 6 months or so after the 3900X.
