Where did you manage to get a hold of one at?
Amazon of all places. Had the chance another time a few days ago, actually. There's a Microcenter roughly 16 minutes from me but I've avoided going into stores as much as I could this past year for obvious reasons. I figure there's no harm in waiting another month or two. Price may come down. Better refined BIOS, etc.
I don't think a 5950X has been offered up online yet but I could be wrong seeing as how I've only set alerts for the 5900X. There's been at least 3 days where the 5900X was up for sale on Amazon apart from launch day. Chances are good there's been at least one day of the 5950X aside from launch day.
You gotta consider that there are people wanting a new computer after years of keeping the same one. People who are upgrading to a newer Zen on an "older" AM4 chipset platform. People dumping Intel who chase the best. People getting into computers. IT departments buying DIY parts because prebuilts have a vague date of delivery some time in 2021 and those new rigs were needed yesterday, etc.
I remember buying a chip was as hard as this during the heyday of constant advancements before Intel dropped their Core 2 Duo and began their quasi-monopoly.
