How far away from you is it?
I picked up a used 5600X3D for $200 shipped on another forum. And a NIB 5800X3D for $210 shipped from one of the excellent members here. Both were swap and go. No new boards, ram, OS license or installs. 2 of my systems are mini-ITX so replacing them with AM5 would either be another $200+ each or settling for A620 (no thanks) If I upgrade I want all the new standards not just the future CPU capable socket.
I play with frame caps, so a 7800X3D would be virtually indistinguishable from a 5800X3D. Bigger bar better alone does not define my gaming needs. I will probably upgrade to Zen 5 3D when everyone is selling it off and upgrading to Zen 6 3D.
Caveat, I wanted a 5800X3D but never *needed* one
MC is a solid hour drive from me one way; BUT, the issue in Oct 2023 was the 7800X3D was $350 (and MC price of 5800X3D was ~$310 maybe?) and they had no inexpensive B650 boards in stock at that moment.
It was going to be more expensive in time AND product than just ordering the 7800X3D bundle from Newegg.
Here is the Reddit B&H $270 sale thread for historical reference; 5800X3D was cheap for a while, I didn't need it need it, thought it would drop to $250 at some point, but the price started going back up!
RE: Used 5800X3D
I did search the forum here, check locally on Craigslist and FB Marketplace, every 5800X3D option was over $300; the market went haywire for it after the $270 deal sold out and the next stock replenishment of the CPU was back to being about the same price as 7800X3D.
I know it was still a good deal for $300, but the AM5 DDR5 gains felt worth it if I could get a nice inexpensive board and some inexpensive DDR5; all the testing and benchmarks of the 7800X3D really sold me on it, lol; and I really did not want to lose the capability of the 5900X to straight replace it with a 5800X3D.
I knew I was going to go AM5 at some point too, was trying really hard to wait for 9800X3D; but then the 7800X3D dropped price quicker than I expected
I also cap FPS, so I get .1% mins that are almost the same as Avg and 1% fps, these X3D chips are crazy good.
