Out of curiosity, for a budget gaming build, do y'all know how competitive is a 5800X3D build with DDR4 3600 with tight RAM timings?
igor is on point about ram.
As always, it depends on the games you play, if you are already on AM4, and if you can leverage the used market, as to how much value Zen 3 3D will provide. And of course the biggest consideration is if you live close enough to a Micro Center with the crazy hot deal 7800X3D combos. If already on the platform I'd opt for the slightly slower 5700X3D here in the U.S. as it is $199.98.now. Obviously for productivity there are much better choices for similar money.
I recently picked up the 5800X3D NIB here in the forums from one of our many outstanding members for $210. I don't think I'd pay more than $30 over the 5700X3D as the value isn't there otherwise. I picked up a 5600X3D on another forum for $200 shipped a couple months before the 5700X3D had the $50 price drop. I'd have still chosen the 6 core though, simply because it's such a rare CPU. Making it a collectable for me. A $35 Phantom Spirit 120 easily cools them while staying quiet. I do use a negative offset in curve optimizer of -20 to -30 depending on where the CPU is in the silicon lottery. I don't do BCLK or any other tweaks as IMO the juice ain't worth the squeeze.
No point in building Zen 3 3D new unless the new and used market where you are is radically different from the U.S.
For me it came down to -
1. Simple swap out of CPUs
2. No windows activation hassles or expense
3. Unbeatable bang for buck upgrade after selling the old CPUs
4. Used market pricing thanks to tech forums for sale/trade
