So this will possibly be the last year for AM4. Once DDR4 stock dries up, there won't be an easy way to make a new AM4 build, other than going for weird branded Chinese RAM of questionable quality.

I already has 64GB 3600Mhz in my work computer I'm just wondering if that 2700X should be upgraded to a 5950X which currently is slightly cheaper than the 5900XT in Denmark ($350)

If you want to squeeze the absolute last drop from your AM4 build, the 5950X is an absolute beast, good for anything you throw at it.

I just replaced my 5900X with the 5900XT, and although they're both nominally 105W chips, the cooling demands are much higher. I see temperatures around 85C when I process video, and I'm not even going 100% on all the cores. This is definitely hotter than the previous chip.

So... I needed to reduce temperatures, and besides the advice regarding ECO mode (via Ryzen Master), I figured I could try undervolting first.
I found a few tutorials for the 5950X (essentially the same chip) and the 5900X.

You should check the thermal contact with the heatsink, the 5950X consume about 10W less than the 5900X in both Cinebench and Prime 95, this result in a lower temp, 5900XT should behave the same way as the 5950X.

I am pretty sure the heatsink is well-placed, and the thermal paste is the Arctic MX4.
However, this is a HTPC enclosure, so it's not as spacious or ventilated as a full ATX tower.
The cooler is a Cryorig M9 Plus, with two 92mm fans in push-pull configuration and 130W TDP.
So I got the best possible cooling solution for that case, and it's properly installed.

I'm posting an update both here and in my previous post, 'cause it was a strange experience.
My board refuses to save any settings aside from DOCP and the fan speeds. No matter how many things I change - and choose to save - during my attempts, the values revert to auto after reboot.
So I abandoned the BIOS attempts and went to Ryzen Master under Windows.

Whoa... Once ECO mode is turned on in Ryzen Master, the temperatures dropped by 20C. Did not change anything else.
With all CPU threads running at 100%, the system monitor gadget says I'm only using 89W out of maximum 105W, and the temperature is a comfortable 64C. Very impressive. Most importantly, the fans aren't screaming bloody murder.

5705G seems to be identical to 5700G, other than no mention of an included cooler.

So an interesting thing I have noticed recently on my 5800X3D. For some time it seemed like performance in games seemed to be a bit lower than expected, and so today I went ahead and checked the frequency on my CPU with HWinfo. Interestingly, I noticed that it wasn't boosting properly, but rather maxed at about 3.4GHz for CPU clock. These lower clocks would explain lower performance for sure, but why was this happening?

So I tried adjusting power plan settings, that didn't fix it, and I tried updating X570 chipset drivers and restarted. Still not fixed. So I figured it was some issue in BIOS. Restarted again, and looked at PBO settings. I tried setting a PBO limits from Auto to Motherboard, that didn't fix it. I know I also had a -20 CO applied to all cores, so I took a deeper look. Scalar was on Auto, I tried putting it to 2X, and I removed the +25MHz max boost offset. One of these seemed to fix the problem! I am now seeing around 4.4GHz clocks. I may go back and try playing with it to see which one made the difference.

For reference, I am running UEFI revision 1.L on my board, and for whatever reason this version (at least) seems to have this bug.

Ebay is a mess for PC parts. I think 3 out of the last
4 "deals" I got there I had to send back due to faulty or DOA.

That sucks, definitely an unfortunate experience, and a different experience from mine. I have ordered quite a few computer parts off Ebay over the years, and they have for the most part been good deals and worked fine.

For instance, I ordered 2 Samsung NVMe U.2 drives for my server, at a good discounted price. PM1733s I think, almost 8TB worth. I have ordered many CPUs, including used Xeons, and I think several Ryzens. Some RAM as well, including a deal on 256GB of ECC RDIMMs. 4x 12TB WD DC HDDs from goharddrive's store I believe. Also an Intel X540 10Gbps NIC.

The only one I had trouble with really was the NIC, I think due to that they are known to be prone for running hot. I have since replace it with a Marvell controller.

Anyway, I did see that the supply is definitely drying up for the 5700X3D and 5800X3D. Unfortunate, cheapest price for a used 5700X3D is like $250 used.
