Yeah. Win10 doesn't go into panic mode on seeing new hardware. Not sure if the experience would be different going from AMD to Intel and vice versa. Storage related changes may still cause a bluescreen (changing from AHCI to Legacy or RAID mode).

I have gone from Intel to AMD without a reinstall. Worked fine.

-Maybe I used the wrong word, I meant the I/O plate for the back panel.

Not the back plate for the CPU mount (although I am actually using the stock version for that).

Yea, as mentioned about, that would be an I/O shield. Pretty stupid to not include it unless the guy just lost it at some point.

Grabbed the 5800X3D during the prime day deal. Swapping CPUs took less than 10 minutes start to finish. Now to settle in for the another year or two. 6yrs on AM4 and counting. 🤙
Great job!

I may get 5 years out of my build.

built in dec 2019 X570 + 3800X

Jan 2021 3800X to 5800X

March 2023 5800X to 5800X3D.

In that time frame also went RX580 to 6800XT and now 7900XTX.

I'm waiting for Zen 5 to full system upgrade sometime in 2024.

If you don't mind, how much did it cost?
It was 277.70 plus 6% cash back using the Amazon store card.
Well the board was decent for the price, and the case is a lot smaller and lighter than most of my other cases, which is useful when traveling to cons / LAN parties.
Going to a LAN party in 2023 is old school cool. I saw some mix it up by having board games too.

I have been to many Quakecons, but this will be the first one in person since 2019. The Quakecons of past used to be a lot more than just a LAN party, and I still think it is, just this year the exhibits and vendors will be on the lighter side, and there will be no general admission (BYOC tickets only).

As for smaller LAN parties, I have a friend from High school who has a birthday right after mine, and sometimes we get together with a couple friends for a LAN birthday party.

Take some pics for us forum folk this year. Or have you done that in the past and I missed them?

FWIW, my AM4 system is purring away just fine now, aside from GFX problems. Fan rearranging to cool the GPU were successful, but the 5900x is running a bit hot sometimes (84C tops). If I had stuck with the Noctua D15, that wouldn’t happened, but that HSF is just too enormous for my tastes. Even with AC, my little corner of the living room gets hot due to the lack of air circulation there.

I have a test bench that has the corner of the room issue. I use a oscillating stand fan when I am sitting or standing there. Solves the problem.

I am personally a big fan of the D15. I'll show myself out.

I just got my 5th 5900x CPU and it's a dud, WHEA errors on default, I already have one 7900x that only work stable at PBO +10 (also whea errors), is it just my luck or there is something more here?

Statistically the odds of you getting 5 faulty 5900X is like getting struck by lightning twice.

How much troubleshooting have you done?

What speed is your RAM? The 5900X and all the other Ryzen 5000 series CPUs support up to DDR4-3200 officially and that's JEDEC standard DDR4-3200 (eq, CL22, 1.2v). Did you try disabling XMP (if you were running with XMP enabled)?

Sorry from five 5900x i have in last 1-2 year one is a dud, and one 7900x 1/1, the 5900x I shipped to seller, 7900x I still use as it work on +10 PBO (I plan to RMA it later when I do not need it as they are defo broken if do not work on stock), maybe its importer issue as we here buy CPU in kinda grey zone, ppl go to Hungary buy it and sell it to us for a fee

Also all 4 5900x works just fine with -20 PBO I have not tried more nor less

Nothing to do with ram I done dozen test with no XPM profile enabled, mostly have Kingston ram 3200 for DDR4 and 6000-6400 for DDR5

just RMA is complicated even if I detect issue in 24h of the time I received it, for last I am waiting for refund will see how it goes

Both cpu produced almost same WHEA error 7900x used in windows and new 5900x in linux where I monitor kernel log

Also the HU shop that sell it has defect rate 5900x is 0.8% and 5950x is 2.2% which to me is quite a lot

Sounds like it might just be a shady business. But who knows, you still haven't given any details on the rest of the system(s) really. Details like motherboard model, UEFI revision and settings, memory specs and PSU details are particularly important.

That said, the original 5900X I bought did seem defective, as it would give off WHEA errors and randomly crash at idle. I had to RMA it, but the replacement was fine and now runs in my Gigabyte B350 board. This was the only Ryzen I had issues with.
