If videos like these increase sales of cheap AM5 mobos and CPUs, AMD will soon be forced to discount AM4 chips even more. Just wondering how low they can go. I don't know about now but back in around 2000, I read that a chip costs $50 for Intel to make, regardless of whether it's i7 or Celeron. With inflation and rising manufacturing costs, this might've gone up to $100 at most. So maybe AMD still has some wiggle room and we could see new X3D chips going under $150 some time soon. That's gonna make consoles look bad in terms of fps smoothness and could inject some more life into the DIY PC gaming scene by lowering the barrier of entry.
How does this affect you? Are you running an old machine and want to upgrade on the cheap?

AM4 is so good, I think I can skip a generation and wait for AM6.

With the risk of repeating myself, please remember that the rest of the world has very little purchasing power, compared to North American buyers.
I was on Aliexpress yesterday, and saw people mentioning (in their reviews) that they just built new computers with 3600X chips.
AM4 is king in South America, Eastern Europe, as well as most of Asia...

- That's a great point and one that's easy to forget. AM4 is bringing the thunder for a lot of folks who are on the lower side of purchasing power.

LOL guy on eBay told me to make an offer of $90... but had his auto decline/reject set higher than that amount so I made the offer and it auto declined. Ah never change EBay.

Found a 5600X used for $93 all in, no fan or box on this one, but slightly better processor for slightly less money, why not, went for that instead.

- God damn it, put the 5600x in my buddy's PC, it boots tells me TPM needs to be reset, sure.

Then PC gets stuck in a boot loop, won't even load windows recover, just turns on, spinning dots, resets.

Put the old 2200g back in and reset TPM, PC works fine, launches windows.

Put 5600x back in, stuck in boot loop again.

Looks like I got a dud folks. Was a bit suspicious thanks to the CPU packaging having a couple layers of tape on it, suggesting it was used and returned a few times, maybe even with a dud.

Time to use eBay's return policy and just bite the bullet and get my buddy a different, hopefully working proc.

for CPUs I only use amazon or newegg, and new for this reason exactly.

- I've never really had issues with CPUs before, it's a part that generally either works or it doesn't, not a lot of reason for it to fail over time.

Possible that a working part got swapped with a dud and returned though. I won't be out any money, but I will be out some time and my buddy won't get his promises upgrade quite yet, which kinda sucks.

Ok, I'm seeing a 5500 on Amazon for $97 shipped. I know it's neutered Cezanne and not Vermeer, but it will still be a huge lift off a 2200g and it will be brand new.

Alternatively a 5600 goes for $141 shipped, but I cannot really justify a $41 increase in price for effectively 10-15% more performance.

Last option is to keep hammering eBay and hope I come up with a 5600 proc for $100 that actually works.

No, get a 5500GT for $115 or get the 5600GT. Looks to be the same price on Amazon. Check pcpartpicker though.

The BIOS is updated correct? If the BIOS is really old it might not detect the 5000 series.

Yeah, it's an ASRock 450m-HDV, bios 10.6. I was using it with a 5600x but the ram had to be stock otherwise it would crash all the time, so I upgraded to a Gigabyte B550M and sent this board onto my friend for free.

I know it works with a 5600x, cause I used it with one.

Checking to see if Buddy can stomach a $200 5700x3d. If so that's what I'll do.

Yeah, these newer Ryzens could be better steppings with lower power usage and less heat. But I concur with DAPUNISHER. Better to not be hasty when potential deals could sweeten the pot further.
Here is the experience I had. I asked Amazon CS to credit the difference to my account as the price had dropped. I was told to buy the product at the better price and return the one I had for a full refund. I replied that it was cheaper to simply credit my account the difference as it saves on the return postage, processing, and product no longer being able to sell as new. I was told it doesn't work that way and to do the purchase and return. If you guys are getting the credit all I can say is -

One thing I noticed since I swapped my 5950X for the 5800X3D, is that in my motherboard's UEFI setup, I have the option to raise the frequency ceiling on my CPU in PBO, even though they are supposedly locked. I guess it may depend on the board and maybe UEFI version? I currently have the curve optimizer at -20 and with a +25 MHz boost override. Time will tell if it is stable and/or doing anything.

To answer the question asked in another thread about going from a 5800X to the 3D version. I don't have a workflow, and daily driver stuff I will not pretend to notice any difference between, because I don't. Gaming, yes of course I can tell, even without AB stats, in CPU demanding games.

I am interested in how the 5700X3D is treating owners. How are temps without tweaking the UEFI? What cooler are you using? How are temps after tweaking?

.. whoa .. you gave up 8 cores ?
um .. regrets ?
No not really. I traded the 5950X for the 5800X3D + got some cash. And the 5800X3D does better in games in general. The 5800X3D doesn't boost as high for frequency, (the 5950X could do just over 5GHz) but the extra cache is what matters.

5700x3d installed in buddy's computer. Still rocking a 1660s but should be in good shape for a new GPU for his b-day in October.

I could tell he was a bit disappointed that stuff like HWL didn't immediately start running like melted butter, but did notice the much faster loading times/shader comp/min-frames.

Felt bad that I didn't manage expectations properly up front, but it'll put him in a much better position for future upgrades.

I suspect the TV might not be in "game mode" which is introducing a lot of lag in the visuals.
Yeah, TV lag can be pretty horrible. Witnessed it first hand on LG C8 (and not on any other non-OLED 4K LG/Sony TVs before). HDR Vivid profile made playing Horza Forizon impossible due to the lag. Had to turn to game mode which wasn't visually as good but had no choice.
