GN revisits Zen 2 5yrs later

If you ever doubt that the tick tock you have to buy new board strategy is pure fail for consumers, this should dispel those doubts. Zen 2 was up against 8th and 9th gen. GN didn't even bother adding them to the charts because they are entirely irrelevant. Whereas you can look up near the top of the gaming charts and see Zen 3 3D sitting there.

The 3600 was up against the i5 9600K. Reviewers love to harp on how other factors override cores, so don't put so much emphasis on them, but it never turns out that way over time. That i5 was the darling of most reviews, GN being one of the few back then calling 6/6 sus. Here in 2024 6/12 has aged much better than 6/6. And the best CPU to swap in for the i5 is the 9900K, which gets destroyed by the 5700X3D.

I just hope it's 65W and not 105W+ like the rest :| (yes I know that they consume less power than similar 105W processors, but actual 65W TDP rating would be nice)
These probably have the lower quality CCDs that don't make the cut for 5600X3D. So don't think this SKU would be lower than 105W. I think the CCD has to be higher quality to hit expected frequencies at lower power.

I just wish they would put V-cache on APU. They have enough of them to be "wasting" them on cheaper SKUs (which are probably meant to kill Core i5 12/13/14th gen sales).

I eagerly await pricing and availability, even if just for the laughs. So much for the 5600x3d being a one and done thing for Microcenter only.

I am not that thrilled about these slower X3D AM4 CPUs because 5800X3D has became more expensive lately (at least in my area). Possibly to "make room" for all the other X3D AM4 CPUs.

Maybe X3D cache SRAM chips are also slower on 5500X3D.

As reviewers like GN show, in some games and settings the 5800X3D can hang with the much more expensive rapture lake flagship. While being far more efficient with no worries about long term stability. Dirt cheap platform and ram, and for those already on it, drop in upgrade with no new OS license to buy. Arguably, the premium is justified, and the profit margin is probably sweet.

Zen 3 is still consistently the best selling retail line up on Amazon U.S. 4yrs later. And gaming drives the sales, so more 3D CPUs seems like good business IMO. Especially if they are defective 5800X3Ds.

I've noticed none of the major online retailers even have the 5800X3D no longer... seems to no longer exist at "normal" pricing

Could be getting replaced with 5800XT3D soon. New model number. Maybe 100 MHz higher speed. Allows them to charge maybe $50 more.
I kinda figured they would have to cut Zen 3 X3D capacity to shift it to Zen 5 X3D, if they want to keep producing Zen 4 X3D to entice users to buy into AM5. I guess it depends on their approach, but I imagine existing X3D capacity somewhere is gonna have to go.

It's also possible that they have temporarily run out of the inferior V-cache suitable for Zen 3. But yeah, trying to shift people to at least 7600X3D could be the strategy at play here. Some little birdie may have told them that global supply of DDR4 may dwindle soon.

Something is going on. It isn't just the 5800X3D. 7800X3D is sold out from Amazon and Newegg first party.

If all of the lower 3D come from the 5800X3D, what happens when they run through stock on those? Did AMD not book enough capacity to cover the increased demand? Raptor sales tanking was in unexpected event after all.

MC raised the bundle CPU price on 7800X3D to $325. At one point it was just below $200.

They also fixed some of my favorite cart shenanigans. You can't throw whatever RAM and mobo you want in the cart (with any bundle CPU) and get the bundle CPU discount anymore. You have to throw the actual bundle RAM and board in now. It's not the end of the world since you can still return/exchange the board/RAM as long as you put the individual items in your cart instead of the bundle.

On the plus side 9700X is $190 bundle price now. The 7700X is still it's typical $140 bundle price although I bought one earlier this year for $100.
