So for the sub-$100 range in mobo's for a Ryzen 1700, what is recommended now? I've got an Asrock Pro4 in my queue, but not sure where it stands in reliability and BIOS updates.
I can say that mine is doing great at 100% load for months now. 3200 cl14 memory@ rated speed

I think there is a new B350 champion (if you can call it that, high-end budget board is kind of an oxymoron)... MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon

Seems like it's being price gouged right now, but closer to $100 it should be a good deal. Solid 4+2 VRM design, Intel LAN, ALC1220 audio codec.

That is a very good board, in fact this and the Krait are the best boards in terms of VRM capability. The only minor inconvenience though is the placement of the M.2 slot.

looks nearly identical to the X370 model... which I hope has been sorted out by now because I did like the board.

RAM on the ASRock is still working... for now.

There are two dynamic Vcore options - Dynamic Vcore (DVID) and Dynamic Vcore SOC (DVID). I'm assuming that I'd add a .11 or so offset to Dynamic Vcore (DVID) to get me to 1.35?

Depends on what your BIOS is showing for your CPU's stock vCORE. I have to use 0.042v to get my vCORE @ 1.235v.

But yes, adjust that value until you reach your desired vCORE value.

Yes, I played around with it this morning and was able to adjust it accordingly. However, I still can't get my memory to clock over 2133 on a consistent basis. I actually got it working at 2400 and then 2666 speed this morning but tweaked another setting during OC testing and since then, I can't get the RAM to clock higher than 2133 once again and that includes multiple CMOS resets, loading the defaults, etc. The only way I've EVER got the RAM to clock higher is using Ryzen Master; if I go into the BIOS, disable XMP, and manually enter the multiplier, it never works.

At any rate, the BIOS is garbage and Gigabyte should be embarrassed about the state of the board. It is comically bad - they have their AM4 overclocking guide linked on the K5's page but you can't use it to overclock because the screenshots contain options the K5's BIOS doesn't even have! I contacted Newegg this morning about exchanging the board for a different model and I'll have to eat the combo discount (about $35) and a restocking fee (around $26), though they said they'd refund the restocking fee as long as I bought a board of equal or higher value. If this were my primary system, I'd do it; however, since this is a secondary system, I can probably afford to be a little more patient and see if the next BIOS resolves these issues. If not, if I'm going to take a hit on it anyway, I can sell it to my brother's girlfriend - she needs a better system and couldn't care less about tweaking it. I wrote a scathing review of the board on Newegg's site, but let's see if it actually gets published.

I'm having good but interesting results on Asus's BIOS 1107 update.

A seemingly stable overclock on lower vcore compared to previous, but higher idle temps (~3c). Will have to investigate more tomorrow.

Much more experimenting to do tomorrow, I want to test lower vcores and seperately higher clocks. 4.2ghz should be on the cards with 1107.

I'm going back to the older BIOS, Asus BIOS 1107 is having extremely weird temperature spikes despite being on lower voltages and I don't trust it.

Idle temps are jumping between 28c and 47c

Hey all, is anyone else experiencing their cpu frequency stuck at 3.7Ghz on all cores when using the Ryzen balanced power profile? If so has anyone found what is causing this?

I've got the latest chipset drivers, 1800x (stock) on a C6H Motherboard. Tried cpuz and aida, both are reporting the frequency as the same.

Ouch on the price. That will hurt the budget. That price on the cooler hurts too. I'm already almost stretched to max on the budget those two will put me $200 over. Got any cheaper but good suggestions?

If you don't care about hitting 3200MHz just yet, Corsair Vengeance LPX (have this in a build, works great at 2933 with my Ryzen 5 1600) or this G.SKILL Ripjaws V (Samsung B-Die, going by one comment and timings) are less expensive.

For the cooler, stick with the T4 or maybe go for the CRYORIG H7. Not sure if they are including the bracket AM4 yet, but you can request it separately if not.

You should consider going for the 1600 instead of the 1600X. The included Wraith Spire should be good enough if you aren't trying to push for absolute maximum overclock, too, so you'll save money there as well. Don't think it's worth paying for the extra frequency bump or binning if you have a tight budget.

Are the trident Z's models any different from each other besides color? NE has several listed for "Z170" mobos but look to be same stats as the red ones in link.
Many of them are different from each other regarding timings and what chips they're using. You can ignore the Z170 thing though, that doesn't mean anything regarding Ryzen compatibility.

Someone said the T4 would be clocked the wrong direction and would hit the ram. How can I verify that?

I didn't think about that but it's correct, the mounting for old AM3 compatible coolers without a bracket don't mount in the normal direction on AM4 boards (did some testing early after launch with a DEEPCOOL and a Be Quiet! cooler I had from other systems, and they were facing to exhaust out the top). You should go for anything with an AM4 specific bracket to avoid that.

If you are moderately overclocking, you can go for the 1600 and not have to worry about the HSF. The included Wraith Spire is sufficient, and the 1600X isn't worth it (in my opinion) for binning alone, especially if you have a tight budget. With the prices of the 570s going up or going out of stock entirely, I'd rather put the extra money towards a decent 580 (maybe even a 8GB version) or 6GB 1060 if it were me.

I agree. Not all that impressed with the D15 anyway. Even the 212 evo that was on it was doing OK. But I got it when almost nobody else had the bracket, thats a biggie. But I do have a 212 evo bracket, and it was sort of free ($7 just to ship it)

I looked at cooler masters website and they list the T4 as AM4 compatible with the included brackets. I won't be oc'ing the CPU at all.

I was originally going with a 1700 but the 1600x seemed to be a better dollar value.

All the conflicting info is a valid point for buying a prebuilt system . Could someone build this for me?

Yeah there's definitely AM4 "compatible" and designed for AM4. My old Arctic Freezer from my 3570k had an AM4 kit with it but it mounted it pushing north instead of towards the exhaust fan. Ended up with a Noctua replacement.
