The M.2 under the cooler seems less than ideal to me even if it's just about access to it.
On the Taichi the second slot is 20 Gb/s and disables the PCIe 2.0 x16.
For the Killer SLI seems the second M.2 slot is 10 Gb/s.
I am tempted by the Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming for the 5G NIC but because of the M.2 slot's placement, i won't go there unless i go water.

I have never had an m.2 drive. I have bought a few SSDs, but I honestly cannot say that I am all that impressed really. Though I am limited to Sata 2 on this old PC, so maybe it will be different on my new rig.

Looks like Newegg is up to their usual price gouging. All of the RAM kits I was looking at are $20 more than they were pre-Ryzen reveal. Never using them again.

Any of you looking at Asrock boards they've updated their website for the AM4 series.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/index.us.asp#AM4

I know right? I had about $2000 worth if build hardware in my shopping cart, and I was keeping track of prices in notepad and I noticed a $10 discrepancy pop up randomly, turns out in the hour I was shopping around for hardware the DDR4 I had in my cart had a price change of + $10 right in the middle of shopping!

It's getting bad!

M.2 SSD prices are starting to be somewhat ok and if 2x SATA perf or about that is needed or desired, why not.
I'm also looking forward to 3D ReRAM and 3D Xpoint based SSD in 2-3 years, assuming prices become somewhat reasonable by then.

I use a Samsung 960 EVO as a scratch disk for video and photo editing. The awesome speeds are very helpful in that role.

As an OS drive, I think it'd be more difficult to notice a difference versus a Samsung 850 EVO or similar drive.

Yeah not everybody needs one.
Ofc prices are starting to be pretty close as NAND prices are up and the controller cost becomes a smaller % of the total cost.
The MX300 525GB SATA is 150$ while the MyDigitalSSD 480GB is 200$ or the Plextor M8Pe 512GB naked drive version is 220$.

My Skylake build's case is an In Win 303 (black). Love tempered glass, and yes it's pretty. The P3 (cleaner than your church shoes) interests me for the color scheme and open design mostly.

My last 9 years of computing have been hidden away inside of windowless cases.

I liked LED's back when I was in college. Now I'm apparently the old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn... but I like my LED backlit keyboard

The black TT Core P3 SE happens to be on sale at Newegg for $84.99 - $15 MIR + free shipping.
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133317&ignorebbr=1

I was looking to construct an external radiator box to house my 420mm and 360mm rads + dual pump reservoir setup, but it looks like this thing is a modder's dream and I should be able to use it to house the bulk of my water cooling setup. Plus the brackets + building supplies to construct a custom one would actually cost me a similar amount... and not look as sexy.

I want a case that's pretty much unseen. And *silent*. The action should be on the screen, not assorted bling showing off how I spent too much. ;-)

Well, here's what I'm thinking about building here shortly.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jhyGtJ
Just one major question: why the low profile cooler? While that cooler is very good, you're compromising on both cooling capability and noise simply due to the fact that it's rather tiny. The Define R4 has plenty of space for big air coolers. Pretty much any tower cooler would outperform that when you look at noise and temps together.

Also, don't get the R4 if you're ever considering water cooling. I'm getting rid of mine mostly for that reason (although the desire for a smaller PC also plays into it). It also shows its age in a number of ways - front fan mounts are less than ideal for vibration dampening, cable routing is so-so, top vents are an eyesore if used. Other than that it's a great case.

I'm holding off until Q4 holiday sales. I can get rid of my Intel then if Ryzen's good.

Oops, clicked the wrong one. Thank you for pointing that out. Adjusted build here. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mgwRM8

As far as water cooling goes, I have no interest in it. Makes my skin crawl thinking about liquid running through my computer.

Make sure you pick the AM4 version of the cooler. It's a separate SKU. Regular ones do not include AM4 mounting hardware.
Does anyone know if Noctuas cooler will work? Or the Dark Rock 3?
Noctua has launched three specific SKUs for AM4. I'll bet Be Quiet! will make mounting hardware for AM4 soon, if they haven't already.

I ultimately decided to preorder the GIGABYTE AB350 Gaming vs AX370 Gaming as I plan to OC manually (assuming all core turbo can't sustain 3.7+ GHz) and have no plans to go multi-GPU.

That said, 3/2 can't get here soon enough!

Although my 3930k rig is still performing perfectly well, I've been resisting the upgrade itch for years now and so have pre-ordered the following, if the reviews are bad I can always return withing 14 days

CPU:1800X
MB: Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z 3200 4 x 8GB
GPU: Zotac 980TI Amp Extreme (Recycled from current build)
Storage: Samsung 960 Pro M.2 SSD 1TB
Storage 2: Samsung 840 Pro SSD 512GB (Recycled from current build)
PSU: AX1200 (Recycled from current build)
Case: Thermaltake Core X9
Cooling: Alphacool 480 UT Water cooling

Not sure what to do with the 3930k Rig parts that remain. I'd sell them but after about 6 years of loyal service it feels like a betrayal to ditch it never mind the fact that I'd only get a fraction back of what I paid for the components. I'm tempted to buy a lower capacity PSU and minimal GPU to keep it as a home server to learn some SQL on.

CPU: 3930K @4.2OC
MB: Rampage IV Black
RAM: Corsair 1600 4 x 4GB quad channel
GPU: Vacant
Storage: Vacant
Storage 2: 2 x 750GB 7200rpm raid 0
Storage 3: 2TB 7200rpm
Storage 4: 2TB 7200rpm
PSU: vacant
Case: Silverstone TJ10
Cooling: Corsair H100

Noctua is selling some of their coolers with the AM4 bracket already installed. They are also selling the AMD4 bracket on ebay for $8. Also, you can get one for free by showing them your cooler, and a copy of your AMD4 motherboard/CPU receipt.

idk about darkrock

As many of you likely know, there is some hiccups regarding DDR support. Asrock only supports 2667 on a2/b2. Other board manufacturers are having similar trouble, but they are further along in supporting higher frequency ddr.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4/index.asp#Specification

So, do you think this is an issue that will keep you from buying asrock or do you feel confident that they can iron out this issue?

I am still planning of getting the Taichi myself.
