He suggested it had to do with bypassing... His example was running The Witcher and the cores going from idle to slammed foll throttle and the voltage drop that would induce. He specified all the different elements in the core being "covered" by these capacitors. It reminds me of the old days, lots of discrete ICs everywhere and bypass capacitors tied to almost every one.
If Arac is right you got some of the info in your own post here
http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=index.php?posts/38729530
And yeaa together with the digital low dropout its certainly made to give primarily better efficiency but as speed and quality of bypassing is general needed to keep freq there might be a performance part of it too?.
But where come the process part - as Kanter mentioned it in that context? Is it eg becasue of process variation that you need faster and stronger decoupling?
Or to make it better suited to different future processes? Or samsung 14nm process?
I am interested in knowing if there is a broader perspective than just pure efficiency / speed?
Sorry this is OT...

Im going to build a new rig in the summer.

Its going to be either a 6 or 8 core ryzen as long as its within 5-10% IPC of KL, and clocks to at least 4.5GHz all cores.
32GB ram
NVMe boot SSD probably a 500GB
will wait and see what mobo's have the best power system to handle extreme overclocks and get one of them, will be 370 chipset.

Going to try and build a rig that will see me through the next 7-10 years with just a GPU upgrade or two along the way like my current rig.

Going to replace my 2500k/Asus Z68 core setup with a 1700X, undecided on motherboard. This 2500k has given me 6 years of stable 4.0 ghz operation and it will go to good use for one of my friends who is on an ancient Phenom I setup. Just time for me to enjoy more than 4 threads

Will reuse a Seasonic 630W PSU, Antec P280, Samsung Evo 500gb, and Radeon 290X for most of the year, with a probable upgrade to a Vega card this summer.

Hello hello hello!

So, with me so firmly on the hype train and my mind entirely made up, I need to spec up my build ready for the new build. The design is going to be Red/Black/White and unsurprisingly AMD themed.

cue dodgy photoshop mock up;

I will state: I'm in the UK, I will not be purchasing from abroad. I am not brave enough to build a full custom loop.

Things I currently have;

NZXT H440 Black/Red (2015version)
16GB DDR4 @3200 cas16
480GB SSD
120GB Boot SSD
500GB HDD Slave storage drive
R9 290 4GB (waiting on Vega)

So the plan is to purchase the top of the line R7 1800X 95w TDP, and eventually combine it with the full fat Vega gpu. I looked at the R9 Fury X for an estimated required wattage (figured, worst case scenario..)

So i'm thinking;

Super Flower Leadex II 750w 80+ Gold

Kraken X61 280mm AIO (£30 cheaper than the X62, and I plan to swap the fans anyway)

Unknown X370 board - not a fan of MSI but maybe this?

Ryzen R7 1800X

But i'm open to ideas and suggestions.

I wouldnt want a provisionary ATX/mATX board while I'm waiting for a definitive ITX one, so I'm kinda stuck to my build till AIBs become more clear with their ITX choices.

I'm considering upgrading my Plex server to an 8 core machine as well. I do a lot of video encoding and streaming on it so it would be nice to have an 8C/16T CPU. It currently has an i5-4590 and from the looks of things it looks to be a substantial upgrade.

That color scheme on an all AMD build is so good.

I'm hoping with some graffiti frisket film I can get the letters and symbol lasercut out, mask it off on the case and just spray it on very roughly to get that quick graffiti "radeon rebellion" style.

Current rig:

CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.5GHz (Oct 2011)
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth P67 (Oct 2011)
Memory: 4x4GB Kingston Fury DDR3 1866 10-11-10-30 1T

Cooling: TRUE Spirit 140m Power (6x8mm heatpipes, 140mm fan), need to order AM4 mounting hardware or mod actual hardware
GPU: Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X + The Stilt's BIOS @ 1075/1375 (Nov 2014)
Storage 1: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB
Storage 2: WD Green 2TB (EZRX)
Audio: ASUS Xonar DX
PSU: PC P&C Silencer 750w (bought before OCZ bought PC P&C out, around 2008, still going strong)
Case: CM 690 II Advanced, original model with USB2+eSATA front panel (2010), sound dampened, silent fans
Monitor: LG 23EA53 1080p 75hz 23" IPS without anti glare coating

I'm keeping everything save for CPU, mobo and RAM, obviously.
  • Learned my lesson with the i5, don't go with the mid range when you intend to keep the system for long. CPU is definitely an 8c Ryzen for longevity, 1700 or 1700x depends on what XFR is capable of if that's the only difference. I intend to overclock to reach the 1800x and beyond. Those extra cores and threads are going to be quite useful.
  • RAM is going to be 2x8GB sticks of at least DDR4 3000 speed, CAS 15 or lower. Maybe add another 2x8GB down the road as I did with the 2x4 then 4x4GB sticks in my current rig.
  • Motherboard is going to be a robust B350/X370 one with beefy VRM. Maybe mATX if available, I'd appreciate a smaller case sometime in the future

Next upgrade would probably be GPU to cut down on power consumption although I'm fine with the performance for my 1080p monitor. I mean I could go from 250-300w down to 150w or 100w by a mostly sidegrade to a RX480 or 1060 plus the added VRAM. I'll see what the Volta and Vega generations have to offer.

PSU is still going strong (well, it is jonnyguru approved) especially supporting an OC'd 290 (I don't overvolt it, it's not worth it) after all these years since bought, but I think it's due for replacement some time soon, its components are old although it has supported a light 300-350w tops load for most of its useful life... no capacitor bulging yet. I try to keep it in top shape (cleaning it every three-six months, applying high temperature silicone to replace original glue keeping parts fixed where it has come loose from vibrations, already changed fan once, etc)

Specs in flux, and I might need to change the cooler (originally intended to be Kaby Lake build), but it's mini ITX:

Case is only about 20% done, as the brackets, base, windows, and right exterior panel are printed/cut, but I'm printing the main case body in nylon (have a very rough version in PLA to use as working model, though). Here's an earlier, very basic pic of what it will look like, which is missing stuff like the fans, screw placement, power button, front panel, etc, and I/O placement isn't exact:

Right panel will have the name of the build (Bad Moon Ryzen: Bunnicula) with a picture (likely vinyl sticker) of Bunnicula. Internal RGB will be set to red, at least initially to match the vampiric bunny theme. Largest dimension of the almost-cube is just under 11", so it's roughly the volume of a large rabbit.

Case will *hopefully* be done in 2-3 weeks. I hope that mini ITX board is released at or soon after launch, otherwise if another mini ITX AM4 board is out then I'll make the substitution.

EDIT: Side panel

I'm looking forward to yet another build, but I want to wait for actual reviews before I choose which CPU.

I am thinking of choosing the 1400X combined with a m2 ssd motherboard. Anyway i will wait for 2 more weeks before i can make any proper decisions.

Waiting for ITX motherboards which don't skimp on M.2 before committing. I do hope that motherboard manufacturers release some good ITX boards this time.

Its hard to define my build, since we don't know real pricing yet.

But with the DDR4 prices so high, I will have to settle for 4c/8t. 1400x with tax will be almost $300 here, so yea. Lower end part will make it easier to pull a trigger on Zen+ upgrade
Also, here is hoping a cut down ryzen can be unlocked a'la old athlons.

For Mo-Bo, I was looking for something with more PCIe slots, but the price is important aswell. GB B350 Gaming looks nice:

x370 will be probably outside my budget.

Waiting for reviews.

That MSI board is one ugly board. It looks like baby puke sprayed all over. Those randomly cut blocks around the I/O shield area and on top of heat sinks look like a design by a BIOS coder. And what is up with the large heat sinks on the south bridge lately? Do people fine them attractive?

We had better looking, and frankly better engineered, boards a decade ago.(see below for an example) Motherboard designs have gone many steps backwards with rather unfortunate aesthetic choices and useless blings thrown on top of blings.

That old msi board looks ugly as sin. It's kind of ironic you talk about baby puke and then post that picture. Orange, Yellow, green, blue, black... What color isn't there?

What makes this a better engineered board? Sounds like some bs old farts say about things back in my day...

For instance, " back in my day cars were safer, because of steel construction". But back in reality, if they were released today, they would never make it past crash testing.

A decade ago almost no one had case windows, and cables just run rampant inside the enclosure. It was never meant to be decorative, so aesthetics were a low priority.

Hahaha, i love all the added armour and 'tat' on the new motherboards, i'm even considering an Asus board so I can 3d print my own motherboard shielding and attach a 120mm fan to cool the VRMs

The over the top aesthetics are a bit well...over the top. I am getting kind of sick of it myself as well.

That gigabyte board looks quite nice though. Simplistic, yet not without some flair.

@unseenmorbidity: I am guessing your rant is about the DFI Lanparty board picture I posted, not some imaginary MSI board? I have no idea what triggered you into an attack mode, but calm down and remember that beauty is in the eyes of beholder. (although I would think things like geometrical alignments, color coordination, location of various chips and connectors for both aesthetics and practical reasons are timeless principles)

P.S. Oh and there were lots of cases with windows 10 years ago. I hate to say this, but they were of better quality, too. ^^
