This is a new plaform supporting a new architecture, it's all new. I can't recall the last time it was all clean sheet, practically built from the ground up. You'd have to go back to the Athlon 64 era for that and even then, K8 was based on K7, so not completely 100% new... There will be LOTS of BIOS updates this year to squash bugs and get everything up to speed, from every manufacturer out there.

Buy the brand you usually buy, as it'll sort itself out in no time. You can be pretty sure AMD is everyone's priority right now and will be for a long time.

Still I'd wait for reviews and mentions of reviewers if they found some show stopping hiccup or bug in the motherboard they were testing, with mentions of an upcoming fix and the like.

I think the DDR4 "issues" are overblown. It's a brand new platform of course there will be teething issues. Budget motherboards I wouldn't expect more than DDR4-2667 (initially), especially with 4 DIMMs. Gibbo at OCUK already confirmed 3000+ is possible with Asus Crosshair VI Hero (I imagine it is 2 DIMMs for now). If I can't hit 3400+ on it then I just go to DDR4-3000 @ CAS14 or CAS15 instead.

It's very common for BIOS updates to improve memory compatibility and overclocking as well. See: 6 of the past 8 BIOS updates for my Z170 motherboard:
https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z170A-GAMING-M5.html#down-utility&Win7 64

Excerpts:
- Improved memory compatibility.
- Improved memory compatibility.
- Optimized Hynix A-die Memory
- Improved memory compatibility.

Oops, clicked the wrong one. Thank you for pointing that out. Adjusted build here. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mgwRM8

Oh, the offset D15S -- thank you for pointing that out! Maybe I'll get my last PCIe slot back? Don't forget to get the compatibility bracket (another ~$8, or free if you're patient -- I'm not). My F4-3000C14D memory just arrived. It was on sale at $110/16GB last weekend, but we'll have to see whether the motherboard will handle it (it's not the nice standard 3200 everyone else seems to be eyeing ).

I'll likely be getting the ROG or the Titanium, but I'm happy to wait for reviews. Same with 1800X vs 1700X. It's all replacing my seven year old 860, and I'm hoping I get similar 4k video editing from it as I have for the 1080p editing that my old machine is currently providing. Got a new 4k60p camera (from all the money I didn't spend on CPU upgrades for seven years ), and I need a better editing system stat!

I should also point out that AMD sent out review samples with 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR-3000 IIRC. So it would seem odd if the higher-end boards didn't support at least 3000MHz as a baseline.

Whelp, you can't pay for a pre-order at Newegg with bitcoin.

I'll have to wait and order my Ryzen after the initial release. Hoping the 1800X comes back in stock.

That's because they don't charge full amount upfront. Also they don't accept bitcoin for marketplace items (just learned that recently).

I think Amazon does take gift card credit for preorders, if you want to convert bitcoin to Amazon gift card using Gyft.

So, do you think this is an issue that will keep you from buying asrock or do you feel confident that they can iron out this issue?

There are other factors that would prevent me from buying ASRock. None of them are negatives at the moment, though. Mostly I went with Asus since I was so impressed with their AM3+ and FM2+ boards that, to me, they were an obvious go-to company for AM4.

The Taichi appears to have the superior VRM config for ultra-high-end OC (they claim support for 300W+ CPU). We'll see how OCs work on the Taichi vs. boards from Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, etc. Also I think the Taichi has one more m.2 slot than the C6H?

The fact that the Taichi has DDR4 speed problems "out of the box" is a bit of a bummer, but I expect that to improve eventually.

Preordered an 1800x and bought a crosshair VI. Oh Jesus, here we go. I'm not even opening a single box until reviews come out though. Also, I wanted to save myself $100 and go with the 1700X and use the money on a waterblock, but without knowing ANYTHING about these chips, I wanted to give myself the best chance of a good OC, so 1800X it is.
Will do it justice with a new EK Supremacy EVO. Will find some 3200mhz ram. New PSU since this one is like, 6 years old already. Maybe a 1080ti if its not a nasty ripoff. Possibly switch my water tubing from blue to RED. It should probably be red. I bleed red.
I feel like an idiot. Just admitting that right now. This was a stupid thing to do. FUN THOUGH. Like riding a rollercoaster without being strapped in.

It's the safe thing to do until independent reviews come out.

I'll be doing the same thing.

15% restock fee with newegg for me. I guess I could try to ebay it.

But isn't the nda up on the 28th? That would leave several days to cancel an order.

Moon is getting lazy and scared.
I preordered a non x 1700 and the cheapest 350mb. I get it at launch (kind of 80% of the purpose as its kind of a celebration - who actually needs more cpu power here?) and if i happen to get it before the reviews is online i will certainly mount it and oc within 2 min.

The retailer i got it from is usually number one in speed and beats most in europe. I am sure i will beat anandtech at least

Yeah. I kinda wanted to reward newegg for supporting bitcoin, but if they won't take it on preorders...

Went with amazon via gyft. Basic 1700 and an asus 350b prime board, should be good enough.

moonbogg, you will be fine. Have both the 1800x cpu and the Asus Crosshair Vi pre-ordered. Already have 2x8G of Gskill TridentZ DDR4-3200; Win 10 Home USB;Corsair MP500 M.2 2280 480GB. Will be using an EVGA 850 BQ PSU; 2 Sapphire RX480-8G reference gpus in CF. The CPU will be cooled by an EK Supremacy EVO with AM4 adapter plate and have 2 360 mm Magicool slim rads with XSPC 1600rpm fans controlled by a 6 channel controller. I went with a Thermaltake V51 case.

I'll keep you posted with my build after I receive the cpu and motherboard.

I should bench my system with 3x RX480... for the lulz.

I am feeling a bit mixed over this. Excited to finally upgrade from my FX 8350, however I have never spent this much on a PC before.

Ryzen 1800x $499
Asus Rog Crosshair VI hero board $250
G Skill RGB DDR4 3600 ram 8GB x 4 $409
Intel 1tb NVME solid state M.2 drive $349
corsair RM750i power supply $124
fractal design R5 case $99
Asus blu ray combo dvd burner $40
rosewill card reader and usb type c front panel $30
Aura led strip kit $33
pulling a few 2 tb hard disks from my old rig
and reusing my nvidia gtx960 for now until vega comes out and decide between that and 1080ti

$1,851.00 not counting video card................. that's a lot of scratch spent on a PC
I know I could have cut some corners on this, but I felt in the long run this would be the best mix of parts for the workloads I use this for , gaming is only a small part of the need for this.

I would wait until we have confirmation that DDR4 up to 3600MHz+ is supported. I doubt the majority of boards will work with 4x DIMMS populated with DDR4-3600 on launch day. Though I suppose you could always underclock and reduce latency until such a time that they are supported if it pans out that way.
