At idle you can't tell what P state is in use and voltages.Unless AMD has provided access to that info in the last week or so.
Assuming you are at stock.
Thanks.
I see. In the BIOS I set it to 1.35 but sometimes CPU-Z shows 1.55 V How is this possible?

OK< I found an old P5Q (socket 775) motherboard laying around that I will never use again. I took the VRM heatsink off one side, ground it down just a little on the ends (it comes with its own thermal pad) and just pressed it onto the SSD. now its 60c max, instead of 70. Now if I could find a way to apply more pressure to hold it on, maybe it would come down more !

Could you mount a fan, with zip ties or isolated wire maybe, to direct some air flow towards the SSD?

That heatsink has the fins parallel to the front fans, assuming you have front intake fans, and is less than ideal as the first fin deflects the air.
If you have something like this it should work pretty well, haven't tried it myself though https://www.amazon.com/ENZOTECH-Memory-Ramsink-BMR-C1-Heatsink/dp/B002BWXW6E

Not a bad idea, I have an old motherboard with VRM heatsinks I could use. My m2 is just north of the GPU, not much airflow going over it.

I just about finished this 1800X build up yesterday. I decided to simplify things and took out my Aqauero 6 fan controller and flow meters. It cut way down on the wiring, and I did not even have to fight getting the back on the case. The only things I have left are I want to replace that rear fan, get an internal USB 2.0 hub, and put a floor in the case, and get a quick disconnect to put on the drain valve on the CPU block. Otherwise I am pretty happy with the build.

Oh, and the person that posted the AM3 plastic back plate would not work, was wrong. I used it with no trouble at all. You just can't put in all those washers and plastic discs.

I used zip ties on the NVMe SSD, and now its maxed at 52c (from 70c before) so that good. I think that was my problem all along with OC'ing as it would just shut down, or at least the video was dead.

So now that its cool, back to OC'ing. Currently still at 2933 on the ram, and 3975@1.3875 on the CPU.

Ha! I just realized how much this is like the 90's:
  • AMD has a CPU that is giving Intel a run for its money
  • Everyone is geeking out over new architecture
  • People are grinding, cutting, gluing, strapping down any kind of heatsink they can to random parts to get rid of a bottleneck
  • Three pages can be added to a thread overnight
  • No one has any clue WTF we are doing, and loving it
I'm going to put on my life is good t-shirt and rock out to some everclear.

No such luck guys I guess I have to send it back because it refuses to budge. I think I will send the CPU back for a replacement as well because I can't be 100% certain that it couldn't be the cause. So now I play the waiting game for a return/replacement and a refund. Unfortunately they wont do a refund for the CPU only a replacement so I am stuck upgrading to Ryzen whether I want to or not.So I went ahead and purchased that Cheapo B350 Mark, hope it does me better then the Hero VI. This better last me till the Asrock X370 Taichi comes back in stock. I should have just listened to all you guys in the first place.I was just thinking "Asus is a good brand" but look where that got me.

OK, here is an interesting observation. Possibly why things run "smoother" in gaming. Notice the two screen shots. Bothe are two different computers, but both running only ONE application, BOINC, running World Community grid project.

That is a E5-2683 v3 (14 cores and 28 threads)

That is my Ryzen7 1800x@3975. Notice that the CPU there is constant 100% where the Xeon has dips ?

Edit: as far as cutting and tying heatsinks,
1) I am a cheapskate
2) If it could not run without overheating, a heat sink should be standard.

But I like that post anyway.

Change the view to logical processors on the Ryzen and see what it looks like.

Wonder what is causing those dips, data retrieval?
OK, how do I change to view logical processors. This is win 10. I did try resource monitor, and they are all pegged also, but I have to scrool down to see them all, so I can't do a screenshot.

Sorry for your bad luck. Just buy an ASRock cheapo like me, I am very happy. In fact now I have half the components for a 1700 buid, when the Taichi comes in for my premium build. I mean 2933 on the memory, and 4 ghz on the processor ? on an $89 motherboard ? And I am not done yet, this is playing with it for ONE day !

Yeah thanks Mark,I am pretty bummed out right now but I will feel better by this time next week when I get my replacement order. By the way did you get the Asrock B350 Pro 4 or the Asrock B350 Fatal1ty? I purchased the The Fatal1ty lastnight about mid night and it was about $8 bucks cheaper then it is right now...?? Odd..!! Is this the board to get to hold me over or should I cancel and get the Pro 4?

That one is about the same, but has lights ! Mine is currently unavailable.

$105 and $3 shipping ? only $15 more than mine, I wouldn;t wait.

NOTE. Download many bios revisions for your new board to your current computer as soon as you order. Use the "BIOS" or "DOS" . When you update to that IN BIOS on the new motherboard, once done, reboot and then go into BIOS again and choose "load optimized defaults". Then enable HPET, then use Ryzen master to OC, it works great.

Just out of curiosity here, is it ok to run 4 sticks of DDR4 2400 or is there a memory controller issue? I dont want to be stuck running 2 sticks. pretty sure i seen some where in this thread that anything below 3000 or 2933 is ok with 4 sticks? Thinking maybe just maybe that the Asus motherboard took a dirt nap because of 4 sticks of DDR4 2400? I cant think of any other reason beside that or the motherboard was just plain Jane faulty. Anyways just making sure and asking you guys so I dont kill this next motherboard.
