EDIT: updated, realized there's a red version of the P3

In case there are no mini-ITX motherboards available at launch, I decided to have an alternate ATX build planned: a red-and-black color scheme, open-air build. First time building a water cooled system, so I'm going easy route with a kit.

CPU: R7 1700X
Motherboard: ASRock X370 Professional Gaming
Case: Thermaltake Core P3 Red ATX Open Frame
RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING Z 8GB
SSD: Intel SSD 600p Series (512GB, M.2 2280 80mm NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4, 3D1, TLC) Reseller Single Pack
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower DPS G RGB 750W
CPU Cooler: EK-KIT X360
Cooler Fans: 3x ENERMAX MAGMA UCMAA12A 120mm
Coolant/Dye: PrimoChill Ice Intensified – Low-Conductive Coolant (32 oz.) – Blood Red

Yeah there's been so much price gouging across the board with shops in preparation for Ryzen, it really annoys me to be honest.

Actually it seems it's related to the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. See that first spike in October? That pretty easily correlates with the beginning with the recall. And those phones are all using DDR4 memory.

Pretty sure you just pawned someone with that joke.

I'll show myself the door.

Well sorry, i learned the hard way it is good to wait.
But back here, while waiting in line... Sigh... I will be traversing the internet for any issue that may pop up.

Well, certainly a lot of committed enthuisiasts in this thread. I can't claim that I go all in on my builds like you guys do/will.

Current machine:
  • AMD A10-7850
  • 8gb ram
  • Micro-atx Gigabyte mother board
  • 256gb SSD
  • 2TB hard drive
  • Corsair Air 240 base
  • Gigabyte Radeon RX470 G1-Gaming graphics
  • Noctua CPU cooler
Matched with a good old 1080p screen. I ran integrated graphics for 18 months on this because: babies and pre-schoolers.

The whole point of the build was to be cheap but every 6 months or so have an excuse to pull it apart and tinker with with new parts (CPU cooler, hard drive, graphics card so far).

So now its CPU, motherboard and ram time. Thinking something like:
  • Ryzen 1400X (although that may go up to a 6 core variant)
  • Asus Micro-ATX board (B350 the likely only option)
  • Maybe 16gig of ram.
So I wont be doing anything until August or so I suspect, when the full range of chips are (I hope) out and settled.

Note: edited to say I'm looking at the 1400X rather than 1500X. Number slippage.

if you have not bought that 1050ti, then I wouldn't. 470 will net like 40 percent more performance for another 20 bucks.

It's really only good for people that don't have a pcie power connector.

thanks-i considered the 470 but have a few issues with them. one is the length of the card as the shortest 470 i can find (single fan model from XFX) may not fit in my case. also, the recommended PSU for it is 550W and mine is only 380W. since i basically play RPG & TBS, i think the 1050 Ti will work great for what i need it for. i also considered a mini 1060 but even that may be overkill and the price is $60 more for the 3GB version and $100 more for the 6 GB version.

I can't really do much more planning than I already have, not until some of the water blocks start shipping. I definitely want to go with a X370 board but none of the previewed ones really caught my attention.

I have the Thermaltake Core V1. I've fit a MSI Gaming 280x, an XFX r9 285, Power Color Red Devil 470, and now MSI Armor 480 no problems. It supports video cards up to 285mm or 11.22 inches in length:

In a small case you might prefer blower style. Its really effective. That ps is plenty for a 470 reference and a zen r3 or r5 cpu. A ref 470 blower is 9.5 inches and blows a 1050ti to the moon and is more futureproof. The new driver ui is great btw.

i have not checked in quite a while so i guess they are making the 470's smaller now than when they first came out. still have the PSU issue though and since i dont play FPS, i doubt i would see much if any difference bewteen the 1050 ti & 470. this is also why i plan on going with the 4c/4t CPU too rather than any of the faster, more expensive versions. it will certainly be a major upgrade from the Phenom II 940 X4/6850 i am currently running.

i also plan on upgrading to a Greyhawk APU when they come out in 2019-2020 if it offers significantly better performance than the 1200X/1050 ti combo-assuming the AM4 MB will work for it that is.

great looking case btw-i am really looking forward to building in it.

i have heard that this may be the case but then i wonder why the recommended PSU for 470's are 500-550W?

as far as blowers, i don't plan on overclocking at all so heat should not be an issue. i also understand that they tend to be much louder.

Well if I'm lucky, AMD will ship their new Wraith coolers with all of the Ryzen processors. This way I know I won't have to worry about aftermarket cooling until people get their act together on providing brackets in a timely manner. So far with my case I'm limited to the Corsair AIO single radiator units or the Noctua U9S (92mm fan, bleh).

And also glad that my shiny new G. Skill Ripjaws DDR4 3000 8GBx2 sticks came in today .

There is going to be an AMD event, Capsaicin, on February 28 at GDC 2017. One of the sub events is named "Optimizing for AMD Ryzen CPU" on Thursday 2, March.

The launch date is supposed to be March 2 or 3, probably with NDA lift on the very 28th as there is going to be a live stream.

I'll need a max card size of the reference 290X since I mounted that oversized radiator in my chassis... not really looking forward to buying another graphics card and water cooling it but that's what I'll probably do.
