That's the point. Even with a prebuilt's margin!

The amount of value AMD has provided seems downright insane after so many years of a virtual monopoly.

Ryzen 3 CPUs 2H 2017?

What if there will be no 4C CPUs, but only 4C/8T APUs? Is it even possible, that the lineup will look like this: Ryzen 3 4C/8T APUs, Ryzen 5 6C/12 CPU only, and R7 8C/16T only.

That way AMD would avoid cannibalization of their lineup.

That "Q2" figure for Ryzen 5 is a bit scary. I get that all fully functional dies at the start will go to the top thre SKUs. ROI and all that. And if I truly have to, I can probably stretch my budget to accommodate a 1700. But the 1600X wouldn't even require me to OC unless I wanted to. There's a chance they'll say more in a week, but I doubt they'll want to hurt early high end sales by doing that. Daaaamn. If only my PC hadn't broken down now.

Possible interpretations on the Q2 target:
Q2 = early April = 6 weeks from now
Q2 = late April or later...
Yields are actually good, so they need more time to harvest 6 cores (and 4 cores)
Yields aren't particularly good, but they are spacing out R7/R5/R3 releases for other reasons
Marketing - spacing out R7/R5/R3 releases gives reviewers more time to review each lineup independently, as well as increase the "dwell time" of tech press on Ryzen
Marketing - make early adopters and pent-up demand go for Ryzen R7 instead of R5 or lower
Combination of 2 or more of the above

Even if yields were great, I think they would disable cores, and still release the 4 and 6 core. It really doesn't make much sense to wait for that reason.

Certainly they want to exhaust as much pent-up demand as possible on flagship units, many who would have bought a six core will get an eight core because that's what's available.

Easy, AMD prefers to sell the same die at $329 to $499 with R7 1700/1800X for a few months than release the 6C 12T R5 1500 at $239 that will steal sales from the R7 1700.
That is certainly true, but that is another month intel is selling 7600k, instead of AMD getting a 1600x sale too.

Dont forget they will release the Server SKUs next Quarter, so they may need more 8C 16T dies to sell at even higher prices than desktop $499.

Because I have an ITX case. (Thermaltake Core V1). I'm limited by cooler choices. Dang I'll just cancel my preorder since I was hoping for the regular wraith until more choices are available. I may have to go with the Corsair H60.

You could get a be Quiet! Pure Rock Slim or a Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 cooler. They are not new and do not require an adaptor for use on AM4 mobo's. Both those companies have other AM4 coolers as well.

There are two possibilities for your case. Cryorig C1 or BeQuiet! Dark Rock TF.

Newegg just changed the "Release Date" on the Crosshair VI Hero to 3/7...

Amazon still says 3/2.

Not sure which is accurate, but I'll be slightly annoyed if I don't get to build my Ryzen 1800X system on 3/4. Oh well I barely have any obligations for the following two weeks, I think I can manage...

Just placed my order:
Ryzen 7 1800X
Asus Prime X370 Pro
2x8 GB of Corsair DDR4 3000 MHz
Corsair CX650M (my old Corsair VX450W from 2008 is getting a little long in the tooth)

The rest I'll keep from my old system, including the GTX 970 for now.

Now I just hope the free AM4 brackets for my Phanteks cooler arrive in reasonable time. Had to show an order confirmation for an AM4 board before they''d send any of those precious brackets.

Both are probably correct. Amazon probably sold out of the initial stock and won't get more until 3/7. The more you wait the farther out the day will move.

Cancelled my MSI Titanium order from NewEgg and placed one for ASUS Crosshair IV Hero from Amazon. I just like dealing with Amazon better.. and I wasn't too crazy about waiting on the Motherboard to arrive 5 days later, especially considering I have everything else ready to complete the build.

Too bad I really liked the way MSI Titanium looked.

ASUS' ROG Crosshair Hero VI page has the 3D printing mount section up with models to download. Actually, the download page links to the ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO page, but as it looks to be the same standard M.2 screw-based mount, so it's probably intentional. I'm going to print out a name plate at the very least and maybe a cable cover in the shape of a coffin.

Name plate (will change font before printing, looking later for a sinister font or just default to the ROG font):

I made a couple of icons using RyZEN die shot and its logo. If anyone is interested, download link -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwchhhKjvxFcQU5aN1dULXlTa0E/view?usp=sharing

I chopped the original die shot revealed by AMD in half and used the right CCX as the material. The whole die is too elongated to be an icon (2.25:1). The logo is ready-made and all I did was to make sure that height:width = 1:1. Each .ico file contains 10 images of the following res: 256x256, 128x128, 96x96, 64x64, 48x48, 40x40, 32x32, 24x24, 20x20, 16x16

Anyone know if any of the current motherboards with video out have HDMI 2.0 or Displayport 1.4 ports? Just thinking down the road for 4K HDR with Raven Ridge APU and Freesync support.
