I am not invested in anything financially. I just like to play with anything new, and that sounds promising. I am not spending a dine until the official reviews come out, but my gut tells me, we have a winner, and a new toy for daddy to play with.

Edit: I got to be the CPU moderator for exactly that reason. I OWNED almost every CPU out there, and could reply intelligently about what its like to own them. I was elected as a moderator by the forum users years ago.
Did you own a 486 SX/2 50mhz? That was my first cpu with cirrus logic 5430 512kb video memory.

You bet (actually I think mine was a dx2-66).... And I owned almost every AMD CPU out until the CORE series from Intel, then I slowed down on the AMD ones. But I still have an XP1700, and 770 motherboard, an opteron, an Athlon X2 3800, an Athlon 3000 and 4 C34 socket server chips. Not to mention what in my sig, and on my FS/FT thread.

Oh boy did you go through the dreaded via 4in1 chipset and win98?

Darn that was one low price
I don't think that's true. Take a look at the price trend for Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/MYH48d/corsair-memory-cmk16gx4m2b3000c15?history_days=365

In June 2016, it was ~$70.

Five days ago, it was $125.

Now it's $110.

Damm it was even lower then I remembered or it was just me having the EU prices in my head . Anyway the gap between lower and high end(3000) is still getting so small it makes no sense to not get 3000 is what i wanted to point out.
3000 went from 70 to 110-120$ ,up 40/50 dollars or 60-70%
2400 for example went from 50 to 100-115$, up 50/60 or 100-110%increase
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/y9rcCJ/corsair-memory-cmk16gx4m2a2400c16

So if you really badly wanted to buy memory right now , I would not bother with 2133/2400/2666 for ryzen , for all we know 3000 is next week also double in price as standard xD

Don't expect DRAM prices to drop this year , unless Trump crashes the global economy with his insane border tax, DRAM prices will keep rising.
if you need cheap, you can always try used parts.
Idk why ppl make such a big deal about ram peices. Sure the %cost went up a lot, but it was dirt cheap. You might have to spend another $40 for 16gb, but that shouldn't stop someone from b?uilding a new pc.

I have a feeling that the Ryzen 7 1700 is going to be a dud and even a fancy water cooler isn't going to be able to fix that.

Why else would it be clocked so low?

I think I read somewhere that it clocked to 4ghz though. That's pretty good for the price, right? A 4ghz 6900K for $330? Damn, that's crazy if you ask me.

Except that we are talking about an overclocked processor versus one that isn't.

R7 1700 is already being offered with 3.8Ghz overclocks, it's not going to be a dud. What will happen in comparison to the higher bins is it will likely draw more power at higher clocks. That may change as yields improve.

The two most important bottlenecks for Zen oc will be power delivery and cooling, both equally important. Zen SKU will be last in the trifecta.

You have to remember that the Ryzen 7 1700X/1800X is going to able to be overclocked even higher.

One can argue that the 1700 is the best, as it offers best value and efficiency at stock.

You can't deny it is likely the best value out of the three sku's released so far, however popping for the 1800x ensures you get the best binning of the wafers

I do however feel a little bit for the folks who were hoping for the 6 core models being available at launch. I can completely understand their disappointment.

I would have liked to get 32 GB for my Ryzen build for future-proofing, but I couldn't justify it at the current prices. Should have pre-purchased 32 GB back when it cost as much as 16 gigs cost today...

Indeed. Even at its lowest specified clock (3.0 GHz) it is nothing short of amazing that eight performance cores are running at or below 65W TDP. A SKU like 1700 will likely command a premium in the server market.

I should really try to sell off the copious amount of DDR3 I have lying around...

Ordered more DDR4 last night, reluctantly.

Theoretically, X370 or B350 shouldn't make much of a different, but in reality, motherboard makers see B350 motherboards as the budget options and put much better components (i.e. VRM) on their X370 motherboards.

If chipset is the only difference, I would absolutely go with a B350 motherboard.

Another important factor is that the processor is expensive to upgrade while memory is cheap(er).

Ryzen 7 1700 is going to be a dud. (the bottom of the barrel)

Think about it, if it wasn't, it would be a Ryzen 7 1800X or a Ryzen 7 1700X.

Disagree. First off binning doesn't make a huge difference usually. Secondly, the names, and leaked info suggest that the 1700 and 1700x are actually from the same bin.

Either way, I bet the difference in oc potential is less than 200 mhz. 4.2 vs 4.0 200MHz isn't worth $200 imo!

Except that we are talking about an overclocked processor versus one that isn't.

The 1800x has to be overclocked too. It is running 3.7 with xfr on all cores.

The secret to RAM prices is to wait for the 8-10 year "out of date" gap then sell it when working modules are scarce. DDR2 spiked at one point when machines that needed it were still kind of in service but the RAM was no longer being produced in bulk.
