New Member, I need info to build my Ryzen machine
I have problems trying to understand which one would suit me well.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 : OK, Minor OC on Air, will stock cooler do

Motherboard: B350 MicroATX , which one should I get, which Vendor will provide future BIOS updates

RAM: > 2x16GB 3000 MHz, CL15 would be OK? which RAM is most optimum. I cannot pay for expensive RAM.

I am curious if future BIOS updates could improve memory latency/performance. Also if microcode / firmware fixes in BIOS could improve CPU performance.
Also will there be a Win 10 patch for Ryzen? to improve performance. I am wondering if what I will get from 1700 could improve or if I have to go higher, but too expensive for not much performance boost.
I run Linux VMs in Win10 with lots of Compilation, and I want to game a little .
I want the 8 cores, finally I hope 1700 will be the one for me for 360 bucks.
The other components I am OK.

Please some one help me.
Many many thanks

On the 1700 boost clock is 3.7. Mine goes to 3793 stock in boost.
If you oc a little to say 3.3 you both lose the single thread boost that stays at 3.3 but also loose some of the very fine efficiency. The stock cooler is fine and miles better than what you get with intel but it get to noisy imo when oc to eg 3.8. It can just handle it to 80c but its like having an Intel cooler. It doesnt really work.
My advice is to stay at stock at first and use this fine stock cooler. When you need further speed go all the way to 3.8 with a 25% oc and get a better cooler.

Amd sets strict demand for mb so any 350 should do fine. All will update their bios because they are not ready yet. Run your cpu at stock the first month or two then it will surely be fixed and update tools and bios after a month. Windows sceduler and most game etc will get there in half a year. No probs. The 1700 will last 6 years plus. I wouldnt bet the same for a 7700.

Haggled Amazon and got upgraded to 1 day shipping and CPU now has been charged to card and is being packaged, shipping the 6th delivery 7th. Better than a week but still miffed... Mobo still hasn't changed.

My status has updated so that my CPU is "preparing to ship". No update on the mobo. I'm not sure how they can justify not shipping my motherboard since I pre-ordered all the way back on the 19th.

They better find a way to get me that C6H.

Thought my motherboard arrived, but it was a different package. Amazon didn't have enough stock to fill my pre order. Won't be available again until April and AM4 boards are sold out across the continent. Looks like I can forget about this whole thing for at least a good month.
At that time the bios is fixed and what not is fixed. Lol. Then you miss all the fun.

My CPU has shipped now, ETA is now Monday, however the Motherboard hasn't budged... Haggled them even harder tonight, when I asked the rep what the Motherboard ETA would be he said:

Sujee: The item will be in stock within 1-2 weeks.

When pressed harder, with mention that my order was 13 minutes into the 1:00PM EDT pre-order launch window, the rep said:

Sujee: In this case, I'll set a personal follow up with your order and I'll forward this issue to the concern department so that they will speed up the process and once the item is back to stock with the highest priority I'll make sure to deliver the package as soon as possible to you.

Whatever that means, and when queried on when the actual order will update to see these changes, he said:

You can able to see the changes within 3 business days.

What a stink-fest... Amazon screwed up hard core here, so many people expecting actual pre-orders and getting post-launch orders.

Microcenter seems to have them in stock, for in store purchases only. Just checked Frys, out of stock there.

I wonder if supply is really that constrained because of demand, or if manufacturers held back to update BIOSes or something.

I've seen varying power phases for the different brands B350 boards from 6 to 10. would the 6 phase boards manage a 3.5 or 3.7 all core OC? How much do you think the stock cooler can handle?

I think it was The Stilt who said you cant just compare phases like that. Its more complicated. My asus prime b350m runs 3.8 fine and surely would run 4.2 if needed if not even 5. I dont know how many phases it have. Didnt care to be frank as i dont take it as a measure of quality.
But to be frank i just ended up buying what was in stock and not to expensive. I find the 1700 a bit out of what i would consider enthusiast. But hey i generally find myself a bit uncomfortable with expensive stuff and find it a little bit ridicolous.
As for the 1700 box cooler its just a very fine cooler for stock. I would say 3.4 tops. But do you want that?
My guess is all b350 can go to 4. B350 is oc boards. Imo expensive boards these days is more for functionality not perf.

If I see no movement on my motherboard order status, I may go that route myself. Though I think my pre-order was later in the day than yours.

Dang Newegg is dirty.. Asrock put out mail in rebates for their boards, and newegg jacked the price of the boards up to compensate. So, you are paying the about the same, but have to fill out the mir, and wait months for it to come.

Wow. Both funny and sad. I back ordered the Taichi like hours before they raised the price. But that is super slimy.

I got my Asus B350 motherboard. I haven't assembled my build. Interestingly it says on the box that there is support for ECC memory. Not something I use, but an interesting feature none the less.

Huh.

Amazon now has my CPU arriving Monday, and indicates that it has shipped.

Still no movement on the C6H order.

I'll give them until tomorrow afternoon to do something about it. Otherwise I'll bother their reps again.

Just ordered an Arctic Cooling Liquid Freezer 360. Lookes to be one of a few 360mm AIOs with AM4 support at the moment. Going to build tomorrow with Wraith Spire and test with that until the cooler arrives.

Not sure where Arctic Cooling ships from; I ordered directly from them because I think they include the bracket for AM4 (Amazon and other retailers might not).

My motherboard saga has ended it seems. I got it of a scalper on Ebay (about $80 premium).. Cancelled all my pre-orders (had two going on Amazon for over a week now) so whoever is in line will benefit at least.

Hopefully I'll get it sometime mid next week. Went with Gigabyte GA-AX370-GAMING 5

Idk if amazon even has lines. I think they just send them out randomly.

Here is my build, but my board won't be here for 2 weeks.

EDIT: One of the 480s is actually a 470. I didn't know how to add a different card.

Got my TT Core P3 SE case today and have my external liquid cooling rig half assembled. Will likely finish and leak test tomorrow.

Should have Ryzen 7 1800X tomorrow as well.

Asus C6H coming Tuesday.

Can't wait!
