Thanks. Going from the datasheet of the PWM regulator, it's a 4+3 setup? That sounds a bit low, although it of course doesn't tell us the specs of each phase. Any idea if the MSI B350 Mortar is better?

Edit: hold up. From the placement of the EPS connector, that's clearly not the GA-AB350M-Gaming 3. Power delivery looks similar, though.

Sorry it's the non M version, i'm a bit sleep deprived.
The Mortar might be 6 total.

I see that ASRock has listed AB350M Pro4 (9+2 it seems but no idea on amps), AB350M and AB350M-HDV.

Pulled an allniter with this Ryzen build. I bought a Windows10 USB stick so I can use the C6H mb when it ultimately arrives.
Right now my Corsair H110i GT is cooler of choice and since the AMD holddown is a single loop on each side it works evev on the AM4 socket!

I'm keeping it all stock since the Asus Prime B350 Plus is not Heavy duty OCer. What is nice is it supports Crossfire so my 2 RX 480s are happy.

Much better than waiting for what seems to be eternity for the C6H

Managed to go from 2666 C16 17 17 17 35 to 2933 C16 16 16 16 33 - both stock 1.35V (its on the cheapest ddr4 ram i could get: 2*8GB corsair vengence lpx 3000 c15)
- using tighter settings was needed to go there. Damn counter intuitive. We clearly need bios updates with the memory profiles - its borked as it is. Couldnt get past 2133 on the bios i had 2 days ago.

(edit: had to revert to 2666 due to strange issue, - couldnt make a cold boot using 2933 - weird stuff)

Above a certain speed it needs even numbers so you could try C 14 or 16 but not 15-17 - not saying you can get to 14 with your setup right now, no idea about that.

Hi folks. Been keeping track of all the Ryzen goodness trying to figure out my final build. Seems I'll have a lot of time to finalize since there's basically no motherboards available.

Question. For the G.skill TridentZ series RAM, many of them on newegg state Z170 intel desktop platform. I assume that's solely there to assure the buyer it's Z170 compatible and is perfectly fine for a Ryzen build?

Yes. Most of those descriptions probably predate Ryzen's announcement.

For anyone looking for mobos microcenter has plenty, if one is in your area.

It's been a long time since I bought from brick n' mortar but you're right. There's a Microcenter 1 hour away that has everything I want....

I miss living in Colorado... The Denver Microcenter was the bomb. Here in Austin, all I've got is Fry's and they carry crap...

Most of the 4+3 setups are cheaper deals aimed at Bristol Ridge and Ryzen 3/5 if I am not mistaken.

People that don't OC would be fine with that. It doesn't really matter for them.

I would pick a better board to OC, even on R3 or R5.

Dang... There is only one Asus C6h at the Austin Frys and it's a preorder that hasn't been picked up so I can't buy it.

Guess I'll be waiting while supplies catch up to demand. Will give everyone a chance to work out the issues.

BTW here is more information on the ISL95712:

http://www.intersil.com/content/dam/Intersil/documents/isl9/isl95712.pdf

http://www.intersil.com/en/products...trollers/multiphase-controllers/ISL95712.html

The ISL95712 is fully compliant with AMD Fusion™ SVI 2.0 and provides a complete solution for microprocessor and graphics processor core power. The ISL95712 controller supports two Voltage Regulators (VRs) for Core and Northbridge outputs. The Core VR can be configured for 4-, 3-, 2-, or 1-phase operation while the Northbridge VR supports 3-, 2- or 1-phase configurations for maximum flexibility. The two VRs share a serial control bus to communicate with the AMD CPU and achieve lower cost and smaller board area compared with two-chip solutions.

Yeah I wouldn't OC on that . . .

I heard that from somewhere else too. Why is this true?

I posted regarding this odd timings issue with high speed RAM prior to the Ryzen release. I don't know what the cause is, maybe @OrangeKrush can get more details? Here's a post http://www.overclock.net/t/1624603/rog-crosshair-vi-overclocking-thread mentioning about C6H timing issue and a reddit thread mentioning that Asus goes to the next even timing automatically https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5xo1r1/to_people_have_issues_with_ram_speeds_on_a/

What I did hear is that the permanent fix will require a new revision of the IMC, so it's a hardware issue.

Doesn't that in the end depend almost entirely of the specs further down the line? A 4+3 setup with high-spec parts could easily outperform an 6+4 or 8+4 with bargain basement parts, no? Isn't the amperage rating of the mosfets and chokes far more important than the actual number of phases? I understand that it's easier to ensure stable, noise-free power over more phases (as load per phase is lower), but if the parts themselves ultimately determine the quality of the power delivered, no?

Does anyone have any info on the VRM setup on the MSI B350M Mortar?

Another Heads up folks, seems there have been a rash of ASUS Crosshair VI Hero boards getting bricked by a random and mysterious automatic BIOS update.

Here is a few people from Reddit that had their boards die: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5xn51g/my_asus_crosshair_vi_hero_got_bricked/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5xmg5p/asus_c6h_wont_do_anything/

Also, JaysTwoCents had one of his do the same.

Edit: Looking into this, it's really bad... Lots of peoples boards are bricking everywhere, reflashing doesn't work and it looks like ASUS is doing a recall!

I did a little research, and forgive me if its already answered in this thread, but the X370 motherboards appear to be far better for overclockers or those with more than one video card is what I read.

Correct ?

Markfw, I believe you are correct. I have 2 RX480s in CF in my simple B350 Asus Prime plus but I would not suggest OCing.

Funny reality is that right now the high end Ryzen, 1800x, has very little OCing room, even on a high end board.

Obviously X370 is the only chipset to support SLI.

@Markfw
My understanding is the X370 boards have better VRMs, support SLI/CF and most likely will overclock a bit better than B350. With that said I have a ASUS Prime B350-Plus coming in tomorrow for my 1700X and I'll let everyone know how it goes with overclocking.
