I wonder how many have ripped out and re-seated their heatsinks a dozen times due to this "undocumented feature"...
I was close to doing it, but I'm glad I kept my cool (...) and waited for more information. This means my 1800X is running at 55C rather than 75C during Prime95.

I knew it had to be off by about 20C, but that it's actually exactly 20C is comforting... that means my 1700X is idling at 28C on air (makes sense given it's open air and the heatsink is cool to the touch) and 54C under load.

I love your case, its super wide and looks nice and heavy.I bet it could fit 2 motherboards in there.
Ain't no body walking off with that sucker any time soon What cpu are you using and why such a low end GPU?

My full tower just wasn't big enough anymore so I got a Core X9 having said that getting that radiator in was surprisingly tricky. I'll likely have to get a thinner one when I want to cool my GPU.

It's an 1800X. That GPU is actually going to swap places with the 980ti in my 3930k PC once this platform is stable. I figured i'd give it a week or two more before making the switch as I need my PC on a daily basis for work. Didn't want to run the risk of my MB bricking and having to carry out emergency surgery when I'm supposed to be working

Specifically, the AMD Ryzen™ 7 1700X and 1800X carry a +20°C offset between the tCTL° (reported) temperature and the actual Tj° temperature. In the short term, users of the AMD Ryzen™ 1700X and 1800X can simply subtract 20°C to determine the true junction temperature of their processor. No arithmetic is required for the Ryzen 7 1700. Long term, we expect temperature monitoring software to better understand our tCTL offsets to report the junction temperature automatically.

From here

Temperatures reported +20 more on 1700X and 1800X.
And I have been sleeping late figuring out what the heck is wrong. The fans are screaming and I cannot tolerate it.
I went back to ASUS B350 Prime Plus BIOS 0402 and the temps were low but the system was very unstable. Windows crashes all the time and applications hangs.
Then I removed the ASUS Applications which by the way were only doing nothing but just getting hanged all the time.
It did not help.
I moved back to new BIOS 0503 and now AMD is saying this. I will have to change my FAN curves then.

It was making no sense, the heat sink was very cool. It is 16 degrees ambient in my house. and this CPU is reporting 60 degrees idle, wth AMD?

Fantastic functionality!
Lol. Looking forward to the new bios. Always some new stuff.
I can't get it to boot when overclocking from BIOS. Using the same settings I use in windows OC app it just comes up overclocking failed and reverts the changes. Even if I change the memory speed from Auto to 2133 (which it's at on Auto), it fails with the same message.

quality stuff!

See my update. kind of confirms your results. But 5 c hotter than AIO for $70 less ? thats a winner.

I'm not that fond of AiOs really. Even with default fans, the D15 is more reasonably priced and performs about as well as a lot of AiOs out there.

Wait, am I only one of 50 people in the USA that have this motherboard right now or something?

I would be if the damn postal service had delivered my board today. Gonna have to send someone to get it for me at the post office tomorrow, blah. At least my AM4 adapters and fan clips got here on time. Thanks Noctua!

Okay, so which one of you are Jay B., Daniel B., and Justin S.? (looking at the reviews on Newegg for the AsRock X370 Taichi)

I don't have my board in-hand yet, so I haven't reviewed it.

jeesh... scalpers. If you are desperate for an X370 Taichi, here you go for $414,,,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASRock-X370...923463?hash=item33ca649cc7:g:zpMAAOSwdGFYxwSK

NOT ME ! I am not that desperate.

I got mine for "only" $317, which was less than I paid for the C6H that I promptly returned unopened.

This "scalper" is even worse. He doesn't even have the item, but he is essentially taking "pre-order" for $413.99.

I sent a message asking him if he has the item and he doesn't reply.

Hmm
Load default
Save and reboot
Start enter bios
Set multiplier 31 save and reboot to test
Set multiplyer 37
Set voltage for cpu ofset at +
And press + to get to 0.187 or so
Target voltage 1.375 (for a 1700 1800x lower)
Test try 38 39
Then memory

Nb:
When saving in bios take note what it have registered of changes.

Why would the 1700 be different?!

Well, AMD are saying:
It may be offset on certain CPU models so that all models on the AM4 Platform have the same maximum tCTL value. This approach ensures that all AMD Ryzen™ processors have a consistent fan policy.

But it doesn't make sense to me. If all models reported the same temps (no offset), then a Ryzen 1700 system would run the fans at a lower speed, which seems fine to me. System runs quieter. That's why you buy a 65W CPU, no? The 1800X and 1700X already run hotter by default, so they will cause the fans to spin faster automatically to handle the higher temp/heat without the need for a +20C offset. So I really don't see what the point is. Maybe AMD were afraid that smaller coolers wouldn't be able to handle the 1700X/1800X, so the higher offset ensures the fans reach 100% at full load...?

In fact, it's causing the opposite problem, inconsistent fan policies. I had to change my temp thresholds in the BIOS because the fans were screaming at 100% speed even when the CPU was idle. Now the "low" threshold is at 58C, which is kind of ridiculous.

So, how are people liking the realtek audio on most of the boards? For some reason my audio, set at 100% volume, is basically what I'd consider "normal volume". If I have any background noise in the room, I can't turn it up any louder to drown it out. If I am watching a youtube video that was mastered at a lower volume, I can't hear anything. It's the same whether I use the front panel audio connections or the ones on the back.

I'm using Sennheiser GSP 300 headphones, which are 19 ohm, my understanding is they shouldn't require an amplifier.

Anyone else having this issue? I've downloaded the latest drivers from asrock and no change.

I tore up my Noctua TIM and replaced it with the last of a syringe of CoolLaboratory Liquid Metal....

EDIT: Wait. Does this mean my motherboard might be killing the chip for "thermal protection" 20 degrees lower than a 1700? redacted

Me too, I've got a Nzxt kraken x31 that I have had for like a year and now all the sudden its making little grinding noises like when you load up a harddrive or when a dvd drive starts reading a disk but the noise is coming from the pump/heatsink water block part. Knowing that I started looking up info on youtube of all places and came across several videos with similar problems. Problem is a few of those video's end with the pump/heatsink water block part exploding. No thank you!! Since watching those video's I will never touch water cooling again. Its pure air cooling for me from here on out.

I wouldn't consider getting ripped of by a scalper to be "lucky".

Compared to paying $400+ for a pre-order?

Besides, I'm getting the board (albeit about two weeks late), and it probably won't brick itself. I hope!

Yow. Most trouble I've heard of are leaks, which are bad enough on their own. Explosions are right out!

Sometimes simpler is better... I should have thought of this solution for an external water cooling box.

That is a dual submerged Eheim 1000 pump/reservoir setup suspended on a lattice of paracord (reduces vibrations/noise) and Swiftech Quiet Power 360mm rad which happens to all fit in a spare storage crate... I even have an aluminum drip tray below the res just in case I get stupid when topping off the res.

Pumps are AC powered on GFCI protected plugs on a UPS with voltage regulation and battery backup. I think I've got reliability covered, now.

That's a beefy unit! I just got my rig up and running with the stock cooler on my 1700 and Tomahawk board. Does a great job of cooling all stock so far. One look at the cooler LED to check the temp! Love this chip so far.

Grrr. Got my build all put together only to discover that the backplate I have is the wrong one. The CH6 has mounting holes for AM2/AM3 and AM4 backplates and I just so happened to have a dead AM2 motherboard laying around. So I bought a Raystorm Pro with the AMD mount kit (AM2, AM3, AM3+, etc.) since that's all I could find in stock. Turns out the AM2 backplate has threads that start about a 1/4" down the hole as you can see in the image below.

The screws that come with the Raystorm block are too short to catch the threads.

What I need is a backplate with threads that start at the top of the screw hole like this.

This backplate would work perfect but it has M3 threads where the AMD block kit has 6/32 threads from what I can tell.

Any ideas besides waiting for an AM4 mount kit to come back in stock?

For the cost of the CH6 you would think that it would of come with both both backplates not impressed with Asus with all the problems people are having with thier boards lately

I think we need OP to have a list of mobo plus ram that runs 3200/(3400/3600). With settings.

We now know ram speed decreases latency and improves vital ccx communication speed.

Because of the ccx shufling its by far the most important issue to address as a builder. And it needs to be clear for all new builders that this is priority when building.

How do you guys think we should adress this challenge?

Considering that 99% of heavy-duty CPU coolers come with their own backplates, that's an understandable omission. The mounting holes are there for people already owning AM3 coolers with backplates of their own.

New blog post https://community.amd.com/community...4/tips-for-building-a-better-amd-ryzen-system

"as part of AMDs ongoing development of the new AM4 platform, AMD will increase support for overclocked memory configurations with higher memory multipliers. We intend to issue updates to motherboard partners in May that will enable them, on whatever products they choose, to support speeds higher than the current DDR4-3200 limit without refclk adjustments."
