Grrr. Got my build all put together only to discover that the backplate I have is the wrong one. The CH6 has mounting holes for AM2/AM3 and AM4 backplates and I just so happened to have a dead AM2 motherboard laying around. So I bought a Raystorm Pro with the AM3 mount kit since that's all I could find in stock. Turns out the AM2/AM3 backplate has threads that start about a 1/4" down the hole as you can see in the image below.

The screws that come with the Raystorm block are too short to catch the threads.

What I need is a backplate with threads that start at the top of the screw hole like this.

This backplate would work perfect but it has M3 threads where the AM3 block kit has 6/32 threads from what I can tell.

Any ideas besides waiting for an AM4 mount kit to come back in stock?

This is right out of my butt, so unless others give it a nod I would hold off as a last resort. Use some strong zip ties and pull the holy jeebuss out of them to hold the block in place?

Normally my budget is around 220 euro for my cpu , most i5 fall even outside that category these days , e.g 7500 -250 euro but lately there has been 7700/7600/6700 k or non k deals that are -30/ to 70 euro cheaper and finally make sense again for me. I ordered my 1700 (326euro) just because the price/performance is/was so much more than the intel offerings in the 220-250 category , but starting to wonder now with all these deals.

In a month or two, you'll start seeing Ryzen 5 (4c8t and 6c12t) closing in on that price range, if not below it. They likely won't clock higher than Ryzen 7 though, which means Intel 4c8t CPUs will still have some pure performance advantages (at least for gaming). OTOH, those are €300+.

It looks like threaded inserts. Do they look removable? If so see if you can find some longer ones. 6/32 is 6-32 in screw terms?

The backplate has nuts molded into the underside and then a short plastic guide post to go up through the bottom of the motherboard. No inserts unfortunately unless I found something that would take the place of the nuts.

And yes, I meant 6-32 threaded screws.

I pull a lot of ideas out of that area.

My worry with zip-tying it is making sure there is even pressure across the block. Water block mount kits are made in such a way as to try and ensure even pressure across all four corners of the block. Not sure my uncalibrated fingers are up to the task.

Why not get a proper external dac/amp? That way you avoid EMI noise from inside your case, and often get better components to boot. Sennheiser launched a series that's been very well recieved just recently: https://en-us.sennheiser.com/gaming-amplifiers-accessories
Supposedly they have great audio quality, good surround emulation (if you want it), and a few (actually useful!) extra features. Given that it's external, it'll last you as long as USB and Windows is a thing, too, no matter what form factor your next 1, 2, 5 or whatever PCs are.

I bought the GSX-1000 a few weeks ago and am in love. No drivers to mess with, makes my 598's sound great and the 7.1 surround is unreal in its clarity and accuracy. Highly recommend it.

Knowing that the temp is actually 20C lower, I got my 1700X stable today at 3.9GHz (3892.11MHz, to be exact ), but it takes 1.4 V. Tops out at 70C (90C CPU temp off motherboard) on air under full load. ASUS Crosshair VI Hero arrives tomorrow and switching to AIO liquid cooler... should be able to see how it fares compared to current MSI X370 Titanium, and whether I can cross the 4GHz barrier without going much beyond 1.4 volts.

Hi all, I am still annoyed that my memory doesn't appear to want to run at anything higher then 2100 speed with the following setup.
[...]
Corsair vengence led ddr 4 3000 mhz speed 2x8 16gb CMU16GX4M2C3000
[...]
msi xpower gaming titanium x370

This RAM kit is specified for 15-17-17-35 latencies at its top effective clock of 3000 MHz. I believe I have read somewhere that Ryzen wants even CAS latency subtiming (i.e. cl 14 or cl 16, but not 15) as soon as memory clock exceeds some threshold (2400 MHz?). I do not remember where I read that, and whether it still applies to current BIOSes.

Have any of you seen if the Gigabyte ax370 gaming 5 offer the same adjustable options for p-states, etc. as the asrock taichi?
I like the simple look of the gigabyte boards more than the busy gears design Asrock has going, but the Asrock sounds like it has way more in terms of configurable options and is objectively the better board thanks to the bios.

Since the AsRock X370 Killer SLI/ac is now back in stock, was the Asrock X370 Taichi in stock and I missed it because I blink or was out of stock all along?

I'm having some issues with my new build... I have a 1700 with an ASUS Prime X370-Pro with the latest BIOS 0504 and I cannot seem to be able to chance the core ratio or the option to change the BCLK to overlock my CPU. :-(

Not sure, but I have been refreshing all day, at a minimum evey 30 minutes. When I saw the SLI, I went to every minute for 1/2 hour, and now, every 5 minutes. Never seen it change.

AI Tweaker, CPU core ratio to manual and then the CPU frequency equals (FID/DID) x 200.
When you adjust those, the frequency shown somewhere towards the top should change.
Check the manual or youtube vids.
Assuming you didn't already knew all that.

I have the X370-Pro. I don't believe we can change the BLCK.

Is there anything anywhere that explains what those fields mean? I don't believe we should just be setting values in those arbitrarily. Manual doesn't explain anything.

You can change the core multiplier without setting that option to manual. In fact the multiplier field disappears if you set that to manual. Just below that Auto/Manual field for core ratio, when it's set to Auto, is another field for core ratio where you can type in the actual multiplier. You can also set the core voltage further below.

I haven't managed to have it boot when overclocking from the BIOS, no matter what I set it just tells me overclocking failed and resets it default. If I use the AI Suite 3 in windows, under the TPU function, I can set the core ratio and voltage and overclock it fine.

The BIOS and stability, especially with memory, is horrible at the moment with the Prime X370-Pro.

It is possible, since my taichi backorder is being packaged as we speak.

Kind of doubt it though.

Taichi was never in stock on the Egg. I did see the MSI titanium floating around available for an hour or so, but no carbons... shipments must be stretched thin per vendor, I would assume.

I haven't been monitoring the status quite as aggressively, but most X370 boards will be M-I-A until next week it seems.

Finally got in the Taichi. I'm about to tear down this A10-7870k and begin anew. Got the Powercolor and MSI 390s ready, and it looks like at least the MSI card is still working as a viable graphics card after vigorous mining duty (back to default BIOS, for now). It might take me a bit to get this fully operation since work starts again so soon.

Farewell Steamroller! You made me proud, son. I don't care how "special" you were.
