That's weird, with h.264 - pretty much get 100 percent utilization, h.265 isn't as multi threaded as h.264 tho.

So I got the Taichi up. Booted into BIOS (Forgot to check the version), set to 4000 and 3200 ram, and everything else auto. Its installing windows to my M.2 now.

Maybe I should have done windows before I overclocked, just feeling lucky.

My 1800x just doesn't like H.265. when using H.264 it now gets up to 75-76% usage. I also noticed its not turboing up to 4.0Ghz from the 3.6Ghz.. Also what is Ftpm in bios for cpu?
It will only turbo to 4Ghz on 1-2 core usage usually. Anything above that kind of load and it will drop down. My 1700 usually sits at 3.2Ghz.

Are you on High Performance power saving mode? Just trying to narrow differences down.

Yes I am on High performance mode. All cores get used so thats not an issue its how much of those cores and threads getting used at one time is what the issue is.got up to about 80% on the second pass using H.264 encoded the whole movie from VOB to MKV 720p30 using CBR,Same as source,ABR 3500 ,2pass, and MP3 Audio,192. took 18 minutes to finish using H.264 and 2 hours and 13 minutes using H.265?? Takes 30 mins using AutoGK 2pass 720p and it uses all cores and threads 100% usage.Only problem with AutoGK is its a bit out of date and every once and a while I get a crash saying out of bounds memory..

Hmm wonder if you're using an older UEFI revision that is more stable? Or maybe I just have a bum board. UEFI OC has never been that easy for me.

Markfw are you using a 1800x chip, 1700 or 1700x with the Taichi mb? I usually install windows with default settings, just to be sure but I suppose you will see soon if the 4Ghz cpu and 3200 ram settings worked.

Yes, my 1700x on my AB350 Pro4 is only running 3750, but its early on the OC.

The 1800x is on the Taichi, and windows installed in 5 minutes, now its the drivers. It seems to be stuck on the "All-ini-1" driver, but I will be patient.

Finally got my Taichi. Only took a month and several missed opportunities... but I saw Markfw's post when he bought it and lucked out. (Thanks Mark!)

Was thinking about doing some memory compatibility/OC testing this weekend and maybe some benchmarks. What kinds of things would people be interested in seeing, besides compatibility?

CPUs:
Ryzen 7 1800X
Ryzen 7 1700

Motherboards:
MSI B350M Gaming Pro
Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3
Gigabyte AX370 Gaming K7
Asrock X370 Taichi

RAM:
G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB DDR4-2400 CL15 (dual rank)
G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB DDR4-2400 CL15 (single rank) <-- this was as low as $50 at one point, I paid $55
G.Skill TridentZ 2x8GB DDR4-3400 CL16 (dual rank)
G.Skill FlareX 2x8GB DDR4-3200 CL14 (single rank, Samsung B-die) <-- best perf, worst perf/$
G.Skill Ripjaws V 4x8GB DDR4-3200 CL14 (single rank, Samsung B-die) <-- theoretically same ICs as FlareX, should receive this Saturday

I'm going to mix and match Flare X and Ripjaws V just to see if that combo works, as theoretically both use the same ICs...

Well, I got windows installed, and the drivers, and was some apps, and when BOINC started running it was not all 8 cores@100% (4 ghz)

So I am going to 1.94a bios, and lets see what happens.

OK, up on 1.94a, so what LLC level should I use ? I picked 3 since it was in the middle. Running 4 ghz, all cores 100%load on BOINC 90c (really 70c) I will let it run this way for a while. 1.3875 vcore.

Memory no problem@3200 14,14,14,34

Sounds like my experience with the board so far. Glad you could finally snag one, I was starting to feel guilty here getting it day one!

yea my board has like 12 LLC modes and I'm just ignoring them all until someone else figures it out

In general I try to stick to "normal" or "low" levels of LLC. At least in my experience the higher levels are terrible. I'm sure it depends on the board though.

set CPU LLC to "Mode 3" and NB LLC to "Mode 2" just to see how it would affect voltages at load. didn't really do a whole lot, but I can't get stable 4ghz without meeting 1.4v in BIOS (actual voltage slightly less) so I think that's a wrap on that.

MSI taking their time with BIOS upgrades... better be worth the wait.

I just worry about the temps. With water cooling, and 4 fans in push/pull mode (2 of them high speed) as you can see, at 1.42 vcore I am at 93c (73 real I think) And I would really like to be in the 60's. Level 3 LLC ATM. I don't remember if there was a LLC mode for NB.

You should be fine Markfw. My Corsair H110iGT was similar. I'm now under custom water (EK AM4 EVO cpu block) with 2 360slim rads and temps are a few degrees cooler BUT at 4 Ghz it's cranked.

Just a thought... Ryzen at stock is VERY power efficient, and cool, but when you OC, and raise vcore, it gets REALLY hot, and fast. I have 2 now, so I can tell. I can't get my 1700x higher until I get a new cooling device. it does 3750@1.35 vcore, and runs 77c with a 212 evo and 2 fans in push/pull

Which thermal paste are you using?

the paste that comes with a CoolerMaster device. From the 212 EVO or the 612-2

So, question, what version and where can you get a Noctura (I think its D15 or something) that comes with the AM4 bracket ? I have given up on Coolermaster, and the H100i from Corsair is also sub-par IMO.

Tried some alternate RAM. With the Gskill trident cas14 3200mhz 8GBx2 sticks I can boot into windows at XMP settings. However, dwm.exe has crashed twice. It's almost stable, but not exactly. Going to bump to 1.4v and see how that goes.

I'm using Gelid Extreme thermal paste that came with one of my EK EVO Supremacy waterblocks. Very good TP.
