welp, joke's on me again I guess... the Corsair memory actually fared worse than the G.Skills, couldn't even get those to POST @ 2667.

lol i've honestly never had this much trouble with a single system before... and I've bought some pretty lousy stuff in the past

Pro tip if you accidentally bend some pins on the processor. I did this on my 1800X, bent 5 or 6 pins near one corner.

1. Get a mechanical pencil, 0.5mm or similar
2. Remove lead from pencil
3. Insert tip over bent pin, all the way down to base of pin
4. Bend back to alignment (gently)
5. Congrats, you saved a $499 processor

It takes quite a bit of force and/or clumsiness to bend the pins, as an FYI. So if you're careful you'll never have to use this tip.

Dumb question , is there a way to disable the rgb on the stock 1700 spire rgb, or do i need to connect the rgb header for that .

I don't have one, but I think it's controllable through whatever software your motherboard manufacturer provides for RGB control.

FYI. I ran the Taichi 2.0 update today. Had problems with VMware and went back to 1.6. I think 2.0 disabled AMD-V. I couldn't find a BIOS setting for turning it back on. Everything worked flawlessly once I went back to 1.6

So I come home from dinner and turn on my system and get a message on screen, "Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in Selected Boot Device and press any key."

Great. My keyboard is unresponsive too. I'm guessing I bricked the BIOS when I tried overclocking my memory by doing faster timings before I went out. LOL.

Glad Gigabyte has dual BIOS, I'll try to recover the factory BIOS now.

Edit: OK system is back up and running. Not sure what happened. I think the system wasn't shutting down all the way properly because the keyboard lights were still on. The Gigabyte BIOS recovered itself back to defaults so then I just loaded up my saved O.C. profiles and here we go.

I've bent some pins over the years and have managed to fix them via the method you described and/or using a credit card. It's way easier to fix bent pins on the CPU itself than trying to fix bent pins in sockets (CURSE YOU MSI Gaming B85! I had to toss that board because I bent the socket pins somehow and couldn't fix them).

There's an option in my BIOS to disable the RGB. Try looking in yours if you want to turn yours off.

Got all my new stuff installed - Ryzen 1700, 16 GB 3200/CL16 RAM, Gigabyte Gaming 3 motherboard, AM4 Corsair mount for my Hyper 212.

Everything installed easily enough considering I don't actually have any tools at my apartment. All are at my new house. Good thing I have a tool less case! The only error was not putting one top fan on the fan header properly. But that was an easy fix.

I haven't tried to OC yet. Unfortunately I couldn't get the memory to boot at 3200. It's Hynix memory and it's on the QVL for the board. I can easily set it in the XMP but when I reboot the board does this thing like it's rebooting half a dozen times before it finally boots but CPU-Z says the RAM is now running at 2133. Guess I'll have to try something else.

Sigh.

Now I'm getting some kind of "Activate Windows" BS. I had Windows 7 Pro, upgraded to 10 when it was free, and now it's saying I don't have a valid license.

What am I supposed to do?

try the F6H bios , memory compatibility to off, then manually set timing, voltage at 1.35v, XMP off, and multiplier at 29.

Hopefully, you can run em just shy at 29XX MT/s

I'm assuming you had a Windows 7 Pro OEM serial which invalidates the key for use on a new motherboard. You could try and sign in with your previously used email login for Windows 10 and see if that works.

If you used a Microsoft account you can just use that to reactivate. Otherwise there is an option to enter a serial/key and you can enter your Windows 7 key there.

Ahh...

That did it. I was distracted by the "Not an authentic copy" message and had to look a little further for the location to enter my Windows 7 key.

Oddly, it even said while I was typing that my serial was wrong but it took it anyway.

You can find the option at Advanced -> CPU Configuration -> SVM Mode. It was disabled by default on my board. I installed 2.0 some time ago, and AMD-V still works with VirtualBox.

Pretty sure I remember seeing SVM in 2.0

I'll confirm later

Edit: Confirmed. It's definitely disabled by default in 2.0

Ryzen machine stripped down... is what it is though. As per my other thread highlighting all of the build's shortcomings, I have a new board bundled with 1800X on the way.

If anyone is interested in the CPU let me know as I plan on sticking w the 1700. I'll post it up in FS next week, AT member discount of course.

EDIT: pending.

OK, so a while ago I finally caved in and decided to upgrade two of my rigs with Ryzen, my server/nas and my primary workstation. And I actually managed to snag two Taichi motherboards for the build. Upon further reflection I realized that I think I'd rather have motherboard with two WLAN ports for my server/NAS box, so at least one of the Taichis is going back to newegg. That is unless someone wants to take it off my hands. I'm not looking to make money off of it, but I don't want to lose anything either. The rebate is limited to one per address, so my actual cost was $204, plus another $15 to ship it to you. So $220 non-CC funds shipped total. PM me if anyone is interested, otherwise as I said, it's going back to newegg next week latest.

16GB sticks will all be dual rank, as it is currently not possible to make 16GB single rank sticks.

How do you like that MSI B350 mATX, has it given you any problems...?

I really want a MSI Titanium x300 mATX, if I could wish.

ASUS just threw in a new BIOS for Prime B350 Plus, that's two BIOS in two days . I wanted an X370 on day 1 when I ordered the 1700X but none were in stock so I had no choice but to get whichever I could find and end up with this Prime B350 Plus. But I think this lowly board is not so bad after all. It doesn't have the second x8 PCIe but I am no gamer so I am good.

PRIME B350-PLUS BIOS 0515
1.Improve system stability.
2.Enhance memory compatibility
3.Improve CPU temperature monitor function

PRIME B350-PLUS BIOS 0605
Beta BIOS for AGESA 1004A

With the 0515 BIOS, the Board is reporting lower temperatures than the Ryzen Master.
So ASUS utility/BIOS is reporting around -10 degrees less than Ryzen Master, i.e. only +10 degrees offset from Tctl.

The cool thing is that Fans are now behaving normally instead of screaming for no reason.
But I noticed that the new Microcode from the 0605 is not present yet in 0515.

A request to those having a Prime B350 Plus. Could you please post back if you were successful running 4 sticks on this new BIOS at 3200 MT/s
