My 1800X overclocking experience;

Gop into Asus Bios, hit "auto 4.0ghz oc profile" save and reset.

Works. Holy crap. Run benchmark, confirm no issues. Unbefrigginlievable.

Back into Bios, go to clock rate, change from 4000 to 4100. Save and reset.

Works.

Like.. what the shit, this is the easiest overclocking cpu in the world.

Firestrike physics benchmark of 20,782.

That'll do pig. Shame my RAM isn't supported and won't go higher than 2133.

I don't have any options to select command rate for memory. I believe it's using 1T whereas the memory is rated for 2T but there's nothing I can do about that apparently?

Yeah this is the issue i think, no way to change command rate, this should have been added before launch and would have avoided alot of these memory issues IMO.

Anyone know what speed Ryzen cache runs at stock speeds on the 1800X?
Does it scale up when overclocking?

What is the fastest stable DRAM speed?

I've hit my limits on 4 Cores and know HEDT or Ryzen 2 are next.
Initial tests for apps I use show the 1800X was the same as Quad i7s @ 4GHz.
Cache hits/misses seem to play an important role.
As much as brute force GHz..

Thanks

Now if they can do something like that with iTX, I have a ivy bridge that could use an R5 1600 refresh in an Ncase M1.

I am pretty sure bots always win those things.
Who knows, I was just lucky enough to win the game Owlboy through a Tom's forum raffle. Then again, that had 205 entrants and 2 prizes... Still, it doesn't hurt to sign up. What's the worst that can happen?

There's also the OCZ giveaway here.

True, but as always with AT raffles it's US only I don't get why they can't just waive responsibility for import fees and taxes like everyone else does? If gladly pay the customs fee and VAT if I won a Taichi. Heck, Tom's is even owned by the same company as AT (Purch)...

So it's pretty much confirmed now what the cause of the G.Skill RGB modules dying on Ryzen platform, turns out the modules are fine, LEDs included, the SPD chip is the cause of the failure... And the culprit of the SPD data getting modified/corrupted? G.Skill's own RGB software! DOH! They are sending out emails to customers that registered their kits to nuke the old version from orbit and wash the stain away with fuming nitric acid.

So there you have it, I'm not touching their RGB software with a 50 foot poll attached to a robot on Mars until they get their s*&! together. I'm glad I never downloaded it either, too many reports of dead kits after using it, it all makes sense now.

I expected something like this, because the voltage and current being provided to the DIMMs isn't enough to randomly kill RAM.

Thanks goodness. That board is probably the best bang/buck option for solid OC to 4 GHz. It's overbuilt for what most people will do with it, but the price really isn't that "extreme".

So, looking to put together an R5 1600 build over the next week or two. The big questions I've been curious on are the RAM and board. Are there any boards that haven't reached a good level of stability for higher RAM speeds, or is any option pretty much good? Also, since RAM speed seems to be such a big helper on Ryzen, which 2x8 GB sets would be best for higher clocks? I've not done overclocking in the past, but it seems to be a very straightforward deal on Ryzen, especially CPU-side. Just wondering what kinds of things I need to look for to get high-clock RAM support (since even within the same class of RAM, I've heard certain sets OC better).

Also, what kind of power draw should I be expecting? This one will probably get paired with an RX 570 (MAYBE 580). I want to make sure the PSU I pick is ample enough, but don't know exactly where to aim. I've often done in the 750 range, but it also seems newer hardware is less demanding (with some builds going as low as 400W). Is 750W way overkill? Should I be looking more at 600W or so?

took nearly all night but i managed to dismantle half my cooling loop and swap the new board in... impressive design and layout but lack of fan headers. other bits make up for that though and it's aesthetically pleasing.

at this point i might as well scoop a new Polaris 20 card next week

Don't use the G.Skill RGB software, the older versions are killing modules (Well the SPD chip anyway), not sure if the new version is safe.
These are Aura compatible so that is how I am controlling them. Seems to work flawlessly in the Aura app.

Well just found this stuff on my porch when i got home from the office today. Popped it in set to docp profile in bios and it booted right up at 3200 14-14-14-35 1t It's pricey but works with aura and adds Bling to my box

Holy ####!

I think I can do without the RGB for $110 less.

I would rather use that money toward an SSD. (Still on good old HDD!)

I am now out of budge. Would anyone want to donate an SSD?
