I think I've misunderstood AMD's "Tips for building a better AMD Ryzen system" memory suggestion.

I had read their suggestion as my memory is Samsung b-die, but it looks like it's not. And re-reading their post, it's not directly saying that my memory is b-die.

So, this might help to explain why I've been incapable of hitting 3200mhz on the memory.

1. I thought I had b-die per https://community.amd.com/community...4/tips-for-building-a-better-amd-ryzen-system

2. My memory

3. What Thaiphoon Burner says ( this program read the memory the first time I tried; every other time it is coming back empty.)

yes indeed, the G Skill kits they mentioned are also Hynix.

But having said that, there are some hynix kits that do hit the advertised speeds

I just want my 3400 16-18-18-36 TridentZ to go past 2600.

If your kit is dual rank as mine are, they are likely Samsung E-die. Which the highest I have gotten on the AM4 platform was 2800 with a BLCK OC on a Asus C6H.

well, this blows... ASRock X370 pro is installed with the FlareX memory that I didn't want to buy and it refuses to post @ 3200mhz 14-14-14-34 (XMP) 1.35v

running the latest BIOS with the AGESA 1.0.0.4a is there something I am not aware of? RAM is the first listed on the QVL...

What's your SOC voltage at? Did you try entering the timings manually without XMP?

To echo what Richie said, people have found success with both XMP and manual entry bios are still very much in flux.

yes, i've tried xmp and manual... basically everything that I did on the MSI board.

i might try to relax the timings but it's definitely the memory again... CPU seems fine regardless of OC settings up to around 3.9ghz

when you say "SOC" voltage what are you referring to, the offset?

Well I noticed that with the latest Agesa update it boosted SOC voltage to 1.1v on my Gigabyte AB-350M-Gaming 3 motherboard. This seems like that's what helped memory compatibility with most of the boards now. A software monitoring program or even the BIOS will tell you what your SOC voltage is at. I use HWMonitor.

VDDR_SOC in bios HW monitor was ~0.912v so I bumped it up to 1.0v, which resulted in slightly over 1v.

guess I'll just keep trying

Running my corsair 3000 lpx cas 15 at standard 2933 16, 15, 15, 25, 69 with the new agesa bios at rated 1.35v. So all set and done for this ram i guess - but still looking forward to may update

My ram is the cheapest i could get at the time, and i guess pretty much very much standard. I wouldnt worry to much about ram compatability untill after may update. When i got my Zen at the 31 marts it couldnt run more than 2133. First bios gave 2667 but with some manually altered timings and 0.05 extra voltage. A bit of a mess. This new bios from 10-4 for my asus b350m gives standard speed out the gate.

So you guys with bad luck, just have patience and wait.

As it is, i dont bother to try to much now about manually chaning settings to go after over the rated speed. Will wait for may bios for that.

If you guys tinger now with memory, remember to have fun doing it.

(edit: i guess my memory is CMU16GX4M2C3000C15B)

You tried using Ryzen Master yet? My Taichi - for whatever reason - is still a bitch for memory OC going through the UEFI. It will work, but it's not worth the time/effort vs. just using Ryzen Master once (it doesn't have to stay resident in memory to continue working, works through multiple boots).

I'll give it a whirl thx, this board is quite similar to the Taichi so I suppose looking at some related articles/posts I might be able to find some sort of remedy.

EDIT: Ryzen Master was able to bring the mem up to 3200 @ 14-14-14-34 1T seemingly without a fuss. So, does this confirm that it's still just a buggy BIOS?

Any chance you can take a screenshot of your Ryzen Master settings? I've never fiddled with it so I'm curious what settings worked.

My guess is the memory training part of the boot loop is unreliable which is why UEFI settings don't work for everyone.

i would have gladly posted one except once the system was powered off it wouldn't post again and I had to clear cmos...

yea the second time tweaking with RM the system failed to post... mind you this was the same exact profile that I saved and had working not 30 min prior.

It seems to be a recurring theme with ASRock's boards, and perhaps others. chew* observed that his Taichi required a stepwise approach to dialing in mem OC, which went a little like this:

1). Dial in volts
2). dial in timings
3). Set mem clockspeed

After that he could coldboot as often as he wanted and the settings would stick, provided he didn't change anything else.

"shotgunning" it by setting all three at once produced lockups.

My approach is to set volts in UEFI, then set timings + speed in Ryzen Master without touching volts in that app at all (except for SoC which has to be identical in Ryzen Master and in UEFI). I hit DDR4-3200 14-14-14-32 on day one of my build using that approach, and I don't even have to reopen Ryzen Master again after the first reboot to keep it that way.

I have done it a couple times now, and that's not what I did.

The first time I had I loaded the xmp profile, and then later changed the timings. The second time, after I reset CMOS, I just loaded XMP and set the timings all at once.
