Man it looks like ram was finalized extremely late in the process ! This product was rushed to the market.
We dont know where this stuff end but one have to wonder if may agesa is just a stepstone. A cpu that gets 1% faster each month just by biosupdates. Crazy stuff.

Well in one way it's great that they can keep improving the CPU and platform post-launch, but on the other hand, if all the improvements AMD are bragging about (improving memory support, reducing latency etc.) are just fixing silly bugs like the DRAM boot voltage, then it means the product wasn't finalized and tested properly before being launched in the first place. It's like buying a new car and getting the steering wheel FedEx'ed 2 months later...

Bad Analogy. A car without a steering wheel cannot (safely) fulfill the essential purpose of a means of transportation. The Ryzen CPUs/platform CAN and DO currently fulfill their essential purpose even with the teething issues being experienced on this new platform.

A more correct comparison would be a new automobile that does not yet have the correct tires for best (traction, handling, 0-60 mph times, etc) performance, or that does not yet have the proper fuel-injection/tuning for optimum fuel efficiency and/or top-end speed.

man so am I. it's an 1800X -2 cores for half the price. It ticks all my boxes.

now i'm in serious need of a monitor and GPU upgrade.

Same feeling. Upgraded my GPUs, now I'm researching monitors. What I want (4k, HDR, 120-144Hz variable refresh) isn't yet a thing at a price I could afford (the ROG Swift PG27UQ ticks all the boxes but it's too expensive for me), so I'm considering going for an Acer Predator XB241YU as my primary/gaming and getting a 27-32" 4k IPS/IGZO display later on.

This is what happens when you get the build/upgrade itch. You can't stop scratching.

You can't afford 27" 4K HDR high refresh rate, so you want to go for 24" 1440p non-hdr (heck, LOW dynamic range and color gamut given that it's a TN panel) and only fulfill your refresh rate criteria? That seems odd. Why not hold off a little at least until a HDR 1440p 144Hz monitor comes along at an acceptable price? 27" 1440p VA panels are becoming common, and HDR is starting to arrive for real. Give it a few months (unless your current monitor is some ancient 1080p60 panel, then I understand your itch).

Has anyone been able to install Ubuntu 17.x/openSUSE in MSI B350 board? I am trying to install, but it does not see any of my disk in RAID mode (fdisk -l returns no Sata drives), while in ADHI mode, it detects the SATA drives but not the partitions.

any thoughts?

OK so I had to revert to the factory F2 BIOS Image on my Gigabyte AB-350M-Gaming 3 mobo because something got borked on my system. With the latest BIOS XMP would allow my memory to run @ 3200MHz but would not overclock the CPU no matter what multiplier I would set it at. Plus it would just boot loop 4 or 5 times shutting the computer down prematurely each time and I would hear my HDD powering down loudly. And I had to reinstall Ryzen Master just to get my memory to run @ 3200MHz again.

I'll sit on the F2 BIOS for awhile since my system works great with this BIOS (surprisingly, guess I picked good RAM).

4x dual rank should give a bit more performance then 4x single rank, all other thing equal

.

Back to my original question, which I believe was the start of all this. Does 2x16 (dual rank) have any inherent advantage over 4x8 (single rank)? It seems like no, by what you guys are saying.

That's the nature of buying a new platform. Was it X58 that Intel had to recall all of the mobos? Also AMD is very resource strapped on top. These are all very minor issues.

For Gigabyte K7 users, some tips I have learned while using the F3 BIOS:
1) Don't use Auto/XMP settings for your memory. It is hilariously broken and can corrupt your BIOS, requiring loading defaults and/or reflashing.
2) Manually set all your voltages first. I dialed in my CPU voltage and memory voltage, saved and rebooted.
3) Now change your CPU multi, your RAM multi, and set your RAM timings via Advanced Manual mode for both channels. Save and reboot.

I can boot into Windows at 4150MHz, but opted not to include benches as it requires more voltage than I would consider safe for a 24/7 OC. 4050MHz itself requires an additional +70mV versus my 4000MHz OC.

I think the answer is would be no. Seems like the point is that the more actual memory chips the better. Capacity and process being the same 4x1R versus 2x2r should be the same amount of memory chips.

Yes, Ubuntu 17.04 64bit AMD version works fine for me. Only you have to use the second option when trying it out with live cd from DVDr or flash drive.I think its called ahci mode. After installing you must upgrade to the latest kernel which is like 4.11 or 4.10 I think.

Thanks for the confirmation. yes, that seems to be the issue, I am on RAID0, i think the drivers for AMD B350 raid is not baked into the installer yet. And the AHCI does not work for me because my GPT lists the drives as RAID and hence the installer skips it altogether.

Wow, I'm dumb, yes it did. That didn't occur to me for some reason, even though I'm sure I saw it when I first opened the box. Thanks, you saved me $33. Installed, AMD + Nvidia harmony:

EDIT: Looks like it's working

Fantastic graphics and physics scores, but why on earth is your combined score lower than what my mere 2500k+ single 1070 gave me?

It might have been one of the cards throttling. Unfortunately since it's an open case with no exhaust or intake fans, I think it's just accumulating too much heat under prolonged load (starts to creep up past 80C after a while, while the other card is closer to 70). I should have gone for blower-style/reference design cards, but I'm likely going to run the cards on my Ryzen 5 system with a closed case and re-run it this week.

noob question...how do you post pictures here? (not with links!)
You need an image hosting service that allows you to directly link to the picture. I use imgur. Upload your pics there, embed them using [ img] brackets or using the "picture" icon above the text input field.

Yep, That'll do it and they work great. This is the same set i have but mine are white. Awesome price to!! I paid $108 with $10 MIR for each 2 x 4gb pair around Christmas time, so $216 total for all 4 sticks and now you can get a full 4 stick set for only $86 bucks is a steal. I should grab this set before they sell out.Great find!!

Not a bad question at all. Heck I even had to ask this several times before I got an answer. It used to be you could just link a picture right to your post but they seem to have changed that system over the years. Now you have to have a host like photobucket or Imgur ect.. to upload them then they provide a URL code to embed when you click on the mountain looking icon with a sun or moon on the tool bar above when you post.
