Nice! at least it can do a CB run... it seems he hasn't stability tested at that voltage yet. Still quite impressive.

I wonder how much that CPU consumes at 4GHz 1.2v, considering the other 99% of Ryzens do that at >1.35v where efficiency really drops off and power consumption shoots up.


It'd be nice if he posted the CPU batch number...

Keep an eye out for eBay promo codes (e.g. recent $15 off $75+) and eBay bucks promos. It's the end of the month and eBay bucks expire 5/2 for this quarter, so I wouldn't be surprised to see 1-2 more promos to close out this quarter. 1700X for $305 and 1600X for $205 in the past week. I missed the 1600X though, it sold out really quickly at that price. Microcenter motherboard bundle deal may still be better depending on where you live (sales tax) however.

I doubt it's stable running any benchmark such as Aida64 stress, RealBench 2.54 etc at such a low vcore for 8 cores at 4 Ghz.

still no new BIOS for my board... been checking every few days with the online flash hoping I can flash it as it becomes available on ASRock servers.

i've never had a board stop working with a memory profile after nearly a week of zero issues. mega strange.

First, let me apologize, as I haven't read through the entire thread. However, I was wondering if anyone had the Gigabyte X370 Gaming K5? I bought a Newegg bundle with the K5, Ryzen 1500x, and 16 GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3000 RAM. I built the system last night and saw some odd behavior but most of it, I believe, relates to the RAM. By default, the RAM runs at 2133. If I load the XMP profile, which sets it to 2933, the system will reboot itself 3 or 4 times in a row with 3 beeps (which is a memory code, I believe) and on the 4th or 5th reboot, there is a long, single beep and the system then proceeds to boot. I AM able to use the Gigabyte EasyTune utility in Windows to set the memory settings to the XMP profile and haven't seen issues yet (but, I need to do more stability testing). Anyone else seeing this problem?

Stuff coming from different places, so only CPU + MB here so far. I also recently moved my hardware to a Be Quiet! silent base 800 case and swapped my PSU to an eVGA Supernova G3 650w (overdue for a modular one). Going to be reusing my Windforce GTX 1070 and about 4/5 different SSDs/HDs I already own.

Going to put it all together in the next few days and post some picks of the RGB in all of it's glory! Obviously, the NZXT is not for running things stock, so OC details will be posted soon too (assuming everything plays nice together *fingers crossed*).

So, there is a thread over at Overclockers and there have been many issues with the RGB RAM and Gigabyte boards. You might want to check that thread out - I haven't finished reading it yet so there may be a resolution to the issues.

Thanks, going to check it out. Seems like luck of the draw or some fiddling around to get things running. A new BIOS to help fix those issues would be nice.

I have a Gaming 5 (not K5) and an 1800x with 16GB of Vengeance 3200. With the F5G beta release, my memory overclocks just fine. Prior to that I had a couple sticks of GSkill 16GB 3000, and those "worked" not at all, with behavior much as you observed. Of course, those were dual rank, so about how we would now expect things to behave. The 8GB pair of 3200 RAM booted as 3200, but was not stable under load until the new BIOS. I've been loathe to upgrade to the newer F5 non-beta release, given that I have a working system. I'll probably wait for the May BIOS update.

There are only two revisions of BIOS for my particular board, so I'm guessing that like you, I'll eventually get a BIOS that works but I'll just have to give it some time. Thanks for the links as well - I'll review those when I get some time this evening.

Here is something kind of weird - I may have mentioned I was using the EasyTune utility for overclocking my RAM for now. In it, I turned on XMP profile and used that for overclocking with the 29.33 ratio. Well, I just went into the BIOS to test some of your recommendations and it is now also set to XMP with 2933 showing as the RAM speed and it boots fine. That strange thing is that most utilities are still showing it as 2133 RAM though I did have one that did show the RAM was running at the proper speed. Strange....

The Arctic Silver 5 will probably be fine, but hey, its a new build and I hear Grizzly Hydronaut paste is one of the best and can shave a few degrees off over AS5. You can probably get it at Amazon or Newegg shipped fast.

So I was almost finished with the Ryzen build I am doing as I have been ordering the rest of the parts needed to complete it. The last part I was waiting on was a hard drive. I am trying to see if I could get a good deal on another 1tb SSD or m.2 drive at the very least. Originally I was in a bigger rush to complete this build sooner. However, once I found out I have to keep my mouth mostly shut on the results of the build, I hadn't quite decided to rush out and put it all together yet.


So why the laughter at the top? Well turns out I won that MSI x370 board from the giveaway content on this site. Now I'll have another board to test with for free when it gets in. Maybe I'll make a second ryzen build for giggles then. Ugh my bank account though.

Although Grizzly Hydronaut is considered the best, all of the name-brand pastes (Arctic Silver, Noctua, etc) are all within 2-3c (arguably a margin of error) from one another. The Hydronaut is also considerably more expensive than others though (maybe it has to do with availability in Canada though).

ridiculously expensive.

i bought two of the larger tubes of Arctic MX-4 for about the same price as one grizzly mini-syringe. the MX-4 is about the same as the Noctua stuff. I actually used it on my latest A10 system and it performed just slightly better than the NT-H1. could have very well been a better spread though.

Unless you're an extreme OCer don't bother with $$/gram thermal pastes. Arctic MX-4 is good, easy to apply, durable, and inexpensive.

Your cooling will fail before the paste has trouble unless we are talking about phase change or LN2.

Ever since the Asus bios update (for the Prime x370-Pro) to 0604 from 0515 I have been unable to get my Trident Z RGB 3000MHz RAM to work above 2400MHz.... earlier today I was able to get it to boot into windows for about 10 mins at 2933 with the stock latency settings of 16, 18, 18, 18, 38 and 1.4v but my computer blackscreened and had to be turned off at the PSU switch (case pw switch and reset switch didn't work). Previously with the 0515 Bios I was able to get the RAM stable at 2666MHz with stock timings and 1.35v. However nothing works above 2400MHz, doesn't matter if I had more voltage and/or change timings.
