Well, what I meant was, a setting to configure the boot training voltage (which defaults to 1.2v on some boards no matter what you do). On ASRock boards it seems like they just did the logical thing and let the memory boot @ the voltage specified for normal operation.

It's possible they have already figured out the problem and implemented a workaround. I'm hoping Asus will fix it with the next BIOS update. Several people in that gigantic Overclockers forum thread mentioned it to the Asus rep who posts there.

The 3200 rams are 1.35v i heard they wont work on a x370.
They are also not listed in the QVL
I'm running TridentZ rgb at 3200 every day on my prime x370 pro cl14. Switching to B die ram made it a slam dunk on my board.

Some thoughts on Ryzen 1600 + ASUS Strix RX 480 8GB @ 1080p75 Freesync after using it as a primary system for a week to see if I could tell the difference versus my 1800X + Sapphire Fury Nitro @ 4K60 system:
Ryzen 1600 @ stock clocks with the stock cooler is very quiet. Impressive stock cooler. I didn't even feel like I needed to OC for solid gaming performance, though obviously there is headroom for that (at least 3.7GHz all-core).
ASUS Strix RX 480 runs better with an overclock/undervolt: From 1266 core to 1300 core, at -100mV over the stock 1150mV.
Gaming was very smooth. I played a few maps in the Dawn of War III campaign and some Blizzard games. Could turn up the details to Ultra settings (with AA turned down) and keep FPS high, and input latency low.

Verdict: Ryzen 1600 + Polaris video card (whatever is the best bang for the buck after rebates/game bundles) + Lenovo 75Hz Freesync 1080p monitor (refurb, $72) makes a very competent gaming system with room to grow. If I was on a budget this is the build I would go for. 1600X if you don't OC.

Just to throw in some more eye candy. Had to remove the purple fans though. Adding them so rad was push pull resulted in too much heat being thrown on my gpu. It hit 89 yesterday

Very nice. I like purple lighting. It's underused even though it's not a blindingly bright color when used for accenting like that.

Couple questions for you guys:

I'm still running the stock (1.60?) BIOS on my X370 Taichi with some 2666 memory salvaged from my old X99 system. Is there any point to updating the BIOS before buying a faster kit?

Also, are there any 280mm AIOs that are Ryzen-ready out of the box? I can't seem to get the part for my H110.

2.0 offered some more-robust features in the UEFI. You might find it easier to OC memory in the UEFI after the update. I haven't investigated 2.3 yet so I can't say for sure whether or not it would help you.

Buildzoid was happy about the latest bios for that board. 2.3 fixed an issue where your bios was reset after changing BCLK.

Can't say for AIO that are ready to go out of box. I had to wait on NZXT

I saw that 2.2 was a big pain. Maybe 2.3 is worth doing if the issue is fixed, then?

@DrMrLordX , thanks for the reply. Curiosity will likely get the best of me even if the newer BIOS won't help my slower RAM too much.

Is there yet a generally accepted price/performance DDR4 favorite for Ryzen? A faster kit is high on my list.

That looks sweet! Did you consider only removing the bottom purple fan? Or would that look too off-kilter? After all, that's the only one blowing into the GPU intake, and having more airflow through the top of the rad should (in theory) reduce the temperature of the air being blown through the bottom part, without swamping it in hot air.

Definitly go with at least 2.0, while you are at it, go for the latest non-beta IMO.

On the AIO, my H100 kit was already AM4 compatable. Check their list on their site. I found this there:

The following CORSAIR Hydro Series liquid CPU coolers are fully compatible with the new AM4 socket out-of-the box.

  • Hydro Series H60
  • Hydro Series H110i (Hydro Series H110i GT)
  • Hydro Series H100i

The following CORSAIR Hydro Series liquid CPU coolers require an additional AM4 bracket for AMD Ryzen compatibility. Check http://www.corsair.com/ryzen for full details

  • Hydro Series H50
  • Hydro Series H55
  • Hydro Series H75
  • Hydro Series H80i v2 (H80i GT)
  • Hydro Series H90
  • Hydro Series H100i v2 (H100i GTX)
  • Hydro Series H105
  • Hydro Series H110i GTX
  • Hydro Series H115i

@Markfw , my H110 is a few years old, there is nothing in the box that fits. I've pre-ordered a bracket finally, last week Corsair's site wouldn't even let me do that. It's frustrating to beg a company to take your money but they don't have anything ready. Hard to believe that very few coolers are shipping with AM4 brackets even now, you have to submit a receipt and order it separately. I see Noctua has one of their big air coolers especially for AM4, almost pulled the trigger on that. For now I am using a Cooler Master AM4 bracket for the 212 Evo, it's adequate, not great.

Thank you! I did but it could just be the fans maybe. They are Corsair AF140 and not the SP so they move more air. The rad is set as push from the included NZXT static pressure fans and the pull is airflow fans.

Before I added the fans push was working fine and the gpu ran around mid 60s.

I'm not sure if any one kit is the favorite, but there was a ~$160 2x8GB kit from TeamGroup that was DDR4-3600 CAS/CL18 which was the cheapest guaranteed b-die I could find on the market. Though I think Galax HOF DDR4-3200 is also b-die, if you can find it in stock. That kit was pretty cheap for awhile there.

I think your second best bet is DDR4-3200 CL/CAS14 Team Dark Pro for ~$170. Or DDR4-3600 TridentZ for $175.

edit: Galax has a sale on their DDR4-3600:

Dang memory prices have gone up I spent $180 at launch for 32GB (2x16) 3200 CL15 B-die G-skill.

The overall value proposition for AMD products in the low to mid-range - CPU and GPU - is so great I can't fathom why anyone would buy an Intel CPU or nVidia GPU barring some specialized need where AMD doesn't have product even available.

1600 + B350 + 470 + Freesync is a fantastic and cheap machine for general computing and gaming.

Any thoughts on water blocks for Ryzen? I'm probably going to go with an EKWB EK-Supremacy EVO or XSPC RayStorm Pro.

I have the EK Supremacy MX AM4 block on my test bench. It is massively overkill. I imagine it's pretty much margin of error or at best 1-2°C in terms of performance versus EVO as well.

Having that giant copper contact area for a waterblock and the mounting system that screws into the stock AM4 backplate make install with the MX block easy and great.

Haha, thats funny in a way. So my 2 Ryzen systems one was a newer H100 that came with the bracket, and then I ordered the 212 EVO bracket and was using that, then got the Noctura. So I have all 3 you mentioned.
