Dual = More 'future proof'

If all you do is game, go single. Otherwise go dual IMO.

I would be almost 100% certain that not one person on Earth who went from single to dual core AMD64 and set it up properly regretted it in any way performance wise.(they may regret it financially)

So wrong. If it used for intensive engineering apps (ones where you have to buy a license for each core.... It is far better to get two high speed single cores - one for all the junk and the second for the special app.

This question is beaten to death and beyond. I will never own or recommend another single core again. Dual core is the future and the obvious slolution to the CPU speed barrier ATM, you can't get faster or better than dual core AMD, not intel.

really!? many people say that it is! I'm wondering......... because I'm trying to put together parts for a new computer with a budget of $1500 MAX
so I kinda really need to figure all this out

i haven't seen anyone yet say that they had to lower their game settings after switching from single core to x2.

Hmmm. I have a dualcore X2 4400+ at 2750 so I vote dualcore and overclock. The X2 3800+ should get you near 2300-2400 which is like having two 3800-4000+ single core rated cores. I know you could overclock the single core 4000+ but there is something about that multitasking and smoothness and photoshop loving that I just can't give up.

I haven't seen a 3800+ that won't do 2.4, and I think virtually everybody is getting 2.5
