I moved from HD 5850 to HD 7850, it's night and day. Power to the consumers.

Wonder why is that? Might be the 650Ti at 150$? It is so predictable that we don't have to read any reviews to know the performance of NV cards when they're launched.

I guess it's a record for a company to cut prices nearly every month since may.

last price cut was 7950/70

they arent cutting the same cards over and over again(thread title sort of implies that)

Money. Believe it or not but there are many of us tightwads out there that want more value for our money. I'd say the non upgraders outnumber the upgraders by far and AMD is trying to reel us in. They know we're out there and they want those dollars for themselves IMO.

good time to be a pc gamer

If you just discovered this hobby. Otherwise it's really bad. Decent last gen cards have no problem with this year's games, this gen of cards was, until maybe a month ago overpriced to different levels (Nvidia still are). So what's so great about it?

Possibly. The 650 Ti really stands as more of a threat to the 7770 than the 7850 going by its leaked specs, though.

As for the cuts, woohoo free market economy at work. :awe:

Of course they did, I just ordered one and it hasn't even shipped yet. But it's still below the new MSRP so I guess I can't complain too much.

Great time to be PC gamer on a budget. Now you can get HD7850 2GB for $190 that overclocks to GTX580 speeds, a card that cost $499 2 years ago. Not bad progress in 2 years. HD7850 1GB for $159 seems like a pre-emptive price-cut to make $149 GTX650Ti a lot less exciting.

It is a good time to be a PC Gamer, but a bad time to be a company like AMD bleeding red-ink all over the place. These price cuts hurt AMD.

AMD certainly makes less money per unit sold with lower prices, but it's necessary to keep up units sold. AMD probably got a headstart with its 28 nm chips over Nvidia, anyways.

Yields have risen on 28nm a lot. AMD pays by the wafer IIRC so they might actually be making more money than you think on a per wafer basis even if average selling price goes down.

Really? In what respect? Performance, noise, etc..? Im interested in something faster than my 460 1GB with more vram for some bf3 and skyrim.

For the MSI TF3 model, it's more quiet, cooler, uses less power and uses less space. The performance is respectable and I was able to run skyrim 1600x900 at ultra 8 aa/16 af without breaking a sweat.

7850 1GB is looking like a nice deal... in most cases in 1080p 1GB still enough (as long as you are not into modding, or the HD res pack for Skyrim)

The node shrink actually raised profit margins per wafer and we all know these cards were overpriced to begin with so the price drops aren't significant for anyone but the consumer. It's just the trend, gpu makers release at top dollar to get the money wasters and price falls in line with competition.

Glad to see 1gb cards are starting at $150 though, nobody in their right mind should buy a 1gb card these days.

Games are using more and more VRAM. Shogun 2, Skyrim, Arkham City, etc. 1 GB cards are not going to last long.
