AMD Socket 900

I've Googled and haven't found much... I am going to be looking at upgrading to an AMD 64 PCIe solution from a Athlon XP Mobile setup but I am waiting until there is a clear winner in the socket race. Any ideas or rumors when socket 900 will be hitting the shelves? I have heard mid 05.....

If you are going to wait every time a new socket design is anounced, you are going to wait forever... Even when dualies come out, they are going to be extremely expensive and be meant for servers. By the time they are available for high end gamers and such, they we be starting to develop a new socket... I say go with 939 now, then just upgrade the mobo and CPU later when needed...

I completely agree about about waiting, but there is a however. PCIe isn't out yet, and if 900 is going to come out within say 6 months of PCIe I can wait. The rub is I can't find a halfway serious date for 900 yet.

There is no official word yet, just the rumors.

Back in May the rumor was s900 was the DDR2 part and was being tested with DDR2-533. Latest rumor seems to be thatthe DDR2 part will be s941 and won't be out until 2006 with DDR2-667.

actually, PCIe is out, just not in quantity. a few people have payed a lot for the boards that there are, but they should be available (although still expensive, but buyable) before christmas.

I can't see myself overpaying for the board just to get the expandibility. Futureproofing is about all it is worth to me. I guess it's a waiting game.
