Where did you here that? It's not true. The #2 supercomputer (former #1) on earth, ASCII Red, is made up of almost 10,000 Intel Pentium Pro's which is a 32bit CPU. The 64 CPU Athlon system in Kentucky didn't make it because it wasn't fast enough. You can make the top 500 with 286's if you found a way to cluster a few million of them together.
