Mark,

Thank you for your feedback. AMD has noticed the same thing and will be requiring a Tax ID number in order to purchase the bundles at future Tech Tours.

Regards,

Why do you think it is funny? Some people could not afford things like this and now you email them? What an a$$hat. :|

Yes I do.

The conferences are not for end users, they are for RESELLERS.
And it is up to you to make that decision? Oooh, you are the man.

I don't care because they are not near me, but I am sure others will.

Huh? My decision? No - The Intel Channel Conference and AMD Tech tours are for reseller education, not so a bunch of cheap, pimply-faced geeks can get parts well below cost.

Looks to me like AMD made the decision to weed out end users... BECAUSE THE SHOWS ARE FOR RESELLERS.

Um so are you a reseller? or just some apparently not-pimply-faced not-geek that happens to be a part of the insanely knowledgeable computer/handheld/phone/furniture/camera section at our local best buy?

If not then what makes you a reseller? If having a tax ID makes you a reseller then im set, our farm has had one for years to buy feed with.

And if the shows are only for resellers, then why offer the bundles at all? You would already be buying the latest gear, and testing it, and getting it below cost, so why bother even offering them?

And hey look, i got an email from them too, i assert its authenticity as much as you do yours. The name deleted thing makes it very super secretive sounding, i think ill do that from now on!

This whole thing is stupid. The majority of the people that frequent these forums are either involved or going to be involved with the computer industry. The Tour builds brand loyalty, brand loyalty means we will buy AMD in the future, buying AMD in the future means retailers get to stay in business, retailers staying in business means you get to keep your job and feed the kids, keeping your job and feeding the kids means you get to live and eventually your kids might buy AMD and keep other retailers in business. Its almost like an economy or something.

SuperSix, you making up little "emails" from AMD does nothing but make me want to avoid buying from whatever company you work for. There is no way you could have gotton an email back that fast. Less than an hour? Wow you must be working for one of the top suppliers in the world to have such great contact with AMD! So be the big man and tell us what "retailer" you work for. Then, heres an idea, if you don't want to be a "geek," leave.

And by the way, selling CDs out the back of your Buick does not make you a "retailer," so if that was you I saw last week by the airport, that don't cut it.
Steven,

Thank you for your feedback. First let me state that AMD has been held above water for years by our loyal enthusiasts. We appreciate their patronage and have enjoyed the feedback we received during our annual Tech Tour. We look forward to seeing you there.

Regards,
Mr. Happy Pants, Director of the Happy Pants Department (HPD), AMD.

P.S. We too think SuperSix is indeed an asshat.

You might think I'm a rat, but all of these wannabe's that were going to deceive AMD and basically steal harware are FAR worse than I am.

Actually, genius, when most of us, myself included, signed up with AMD's site, this program was for people inlcuding just enthusiasts. For some reason, AMD saw fit to port us over to this program which seems intended mostly for resellers, but, hell, THEY'RE emailing ME...they've chosen to solicit my attention as long as they do, when I signed up under perfectly legit pretenses, I'll feel obliged to respond if I want to.

So it's not so much that people don't like a rat as they don't like unknowledgeable idiots with ePeen envy.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a WINNAR!!

I remember the first one I went to, at Westlake Mall in Seattle. Wasn't hardly even set up as a show. They did a small presentation, then GAVE AWAY bundles (I WON!). It was a OEM Athlon XP 1800+, with a MSI mobo.

Then, the next one I went to at Seattle Center was TOTALLY set up for enthusiasts. They had about a dozen game stations set up to play on their hardware. Then they had their event where it was a game show, and the top 2 people got to compete in a "build off". I forgot what the winner got. Then they had their show, and prize giveaway (I won again! A retail boxeds XP 2400+ Proc).

The third one I went to was noticably different, and did cater to resellers. There were vendors there, as well as a few manufacturers. Their show was more of a technical presentation than a "show". They had giveaways that time (I didn't win )

I didn't bother to go last year (and as such, no bundle). I don't recall seeing anything that said RESELLERS ONLY in the previous shows. If they change it to that, and actually require Tax ID's and stuff, then obviously, I will sadly not buy (even though I actually would this year).

hey mark (supersix), guess what? you are a dick. this is what you sound like "i want to feel special because im a loser so im going to sabotage everyone elses' chances of getting this deal". im an end user and dont know if i will buy a bundle this year but amd sent me an email so i feel like im justified if i do. also, im sure end users that got in on these deals in previous years are much more inclined to purchase AMD's in the future so stop with your holier than thou bullsh1t about you are just helping AMD.

you have no friends and no one likes you.

The bundles aren't even very hot unless you factor in the NFR software. A month after the end of the last tour the price on the dual opterons dropped by half and Venice came out and devalued all the Newcastles we got. Basically, they used us to clear out old inventory at cost.

if you're referring to last years tour, we actually got 3200+ venice chips. held their value for a bit longer than a few months.

LOL!

It's the return of WMC!

In the email... and in the first post... it says,

"WE WILL ALSO HAVE AN EXCITING BUNDLE OFFER FOR ALL SOLUTION PROVIDERS THAT ATTEND!"

Solution Providers == End Users?????

Think these kiddies will even know what "WMC" means? Doubtful.

That's funny Jonny - I was just about to do this: (Pertinent information BOLDED)

In just a few weeks, the AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour Spring 2006 will arrive in your area! Learn first-hand about exciting and innovative offerings from AMD and Microsoft, co-sponsors for this year?s Tech Tour. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to network with other professionals. Explore the potential of AMD64 technology and preview Microsoft?s Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office system. We know this will have a tremendous impact on your business.

Discover the latest insight on:
* The value of 32 and 64-bit Vista, presented by AMD and Microsoft
* Preview Microsoft Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office system
* The AMD64 technology outlook for Servers, Desktops and Mobile
* AMD and Microsoft?s True Server Solutions with Windows Server System
* AMD Validated Servers from partners like Sanmina-SCI, Supermicro, TYAN, and Uniwide
* Find out how AMD and Microsoft plan to help you meet customer demands in the coming year through market opportunities for:
o Small and medium businesses
o Mainstream and everyday computing users
o Prosumers, power users, digital content creators and Gamers
* Learn about AMD?s System Builder Solution Provider program and Microsoft?s Partner Program
WE WILL ALSO HAVE AN EXCITING BUNDLE OFFER FOR ALL SOLUTION PROVIDERS THAT ATTEND!

Again - the cast majority of the greedy geeks trying to steal from AMD (Clearsil overdose maybe?) aren't:
[*]Professionals (Assuming AMD means RESELLERS)
[*]Not in the computer resale BUSINESS
[*]Don't need to be there or steal the bundle to satisfy CUSTOMER DEMANDS.
[*]Aren't either AMD SYSTEM BUILDER SOLUTION PROVIDERS or part of MICROSOFT'S PARTNER PROGRAM
[*]Don't have CUSTOMER DEMANDS in regards to AMD/Microsoft sales/service
[*]Aren't SOLUTION PROVIDERS

As far as the legitimacy of the AMD email i posted and/or whether or not I am not an end user, I won't even respond to the idiotic crap being posted here. No, I'm not an "end user", I'm not even a reseller. I am employed by a Tier1 master distributor, who gets the product they sell direct from AMD. There are many established, credible members on AT that know what I do, where I work, and that I am indeed in the position I say I am.

If you lazy fscks even tried to find out, you could find the info on AT.

I laugh at the posters who think I am "jealous" of the people's abilities to steal the bundles, I am a sposored ditributor at these events, and can get the same deals as everyone else. (Like I would want an AMD bundle to begin with)
I will be at the Tampa and Orlando Intel Channel Conferences this month, if anyone would like to see me. But of course, you will have to be a reseller.

PaulNEPats: (Your team sucks now BTW)
I don't see how a message board title has anything to do with this discussion.

HeroOfPellinor:
These bundles are always very much below cost - and they don't use the tech shows to clear out old inventory, more often than not - it is brand new or relatively current product.

And once again for you morons that can't read:
I DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH AMD'S DECISION TO RESTRICT BUNDLES TO RESELLER'S ONLY!

Steal is a pretty harsh word.

I'm not going to argue semantics with you. If AMD wants to truly restrict the show to resellers, it's their perogative. IMHO it would be a mistake on their part. They would have gotten probably 25% of the attendance they did if they restricted it. And my guess is they will look the other way again, even if the company line is to restrict it. Either that, or they will change their tune when they have 20 resellers sign up for the first show.

I have to take exception with a few points.

1. Explain to me again how an Opteron 246 was a brand new product at the time?

2. Because this is not new technology they are offering, resellers already have their hands on this stuff well before these shows, and for probably the same (or in the case of volume discounts, even less). So to imply that we are depriving resellers the chance to get a single motherboard/CPU package at a discounted price by stealing from AMD and resellers and not allowing them to feed their children is not a credible argument.

Now if AMD was rolling out AM2 products, before public release, then I could understand it more. You want your resellers to get to play with this stuff ahead of time. But I'm pretty sure the "exciting" budles will be just like last year. Mediocre chips from the 940 and 939 chipset, which are for all intents and purposes obsolete anyway.

So IMHO, this argument is all about e-penis size at this point

Nice attitude. And to whom do you think you're selling that FX-60 system to? Grandma who wants to check her email?

No offense, but you must be a pretty lousy or unsuccessful system builder if you're attending a tech tour event to get 15 month old news or turn a quick $50 on one of the bundles.
