No you can't just show up and buy stuff. Last year I registered and paid in advance with credit card, they have a list there and give to only those on the list or winners of drawings.

I signed up last year on AMDs website, so they sent me info this year.

Signup should show up on AMDs website.

Hmm CPU ~ $300, Mobo ~80, Sound Card ~ 90, XP NFR ~100.

If the $410 price holds true, then you are getting around $570 worth of stuff for that.

Not very attractive pricing at all. I have access to multiple legit copies of both Server 2003 and Windows XP Pro for free (I'm head of the MCSE studygroup at my school and it's also free for any student in my major) so everything seems weak.

Desktop
No one wanted that MSI motherboard in the first place and that Creative sound card is the lowest end of the X-Fi line. I would at least consider the Fatal1ty version as the lowest model I would get because of the onboard RAM for it.

Server
You can get an Opteron 165 for about $300 these days and that Tyan S2865G2NR
motherboard can be had for about $165. While the Server 2003 Small Business Edition totally makes this deal kick ass (worth about $800), there are no client access licenses with it. I have free legit copies of Server 2003 Standard AND Server 2003 Enterprise editions BOTH with 5 user client access licenses. So for $650 for the server bundle is NOT a hot deal. Besides, I wouldn't want to get that Tyan motherboard anyways. There are better server boards out there.

Because the software that comes with the bundles are not suppose to be use for a business environment. It's strictly for personal evaluation. Who knows? It mights come with CALs but I highly doubt it.

Yea, Yea Last year it was all about dual core.....So why not a dual core desktop bundle this year. AMD just doesn't get it....Maybe we are to stop pushing those systems now...

well the way you stated it, it seemed very matter-of-fact.

You can get a Dell server with SBS for $150 more than the server bundle. Retail on the desktop bundle might make it look like a warm deal, but if you compare the resale value, it's practically a wash.....who wants to spend this much on a solo core processor when they could just modestly OC a 3000+ and get the same performance?

Ah well, saves me a trip to Sunnyvale.

It's a shame because I was expecting something aggressive to snag some market share from Intel before Conroe comes out.

If it was a dual core, i'd have bitten. But I'm not dropping that kind of cash for a single core combo with a mobo and nfr XP disk I wouldn't use.

Anyone else notice....

** This bundle is intended only for solution providers and system builders.
AMD and Microsoft require a Tax ID to qualify for this or any tech tour bundle promotion.

Care to share where you can get a new OEM Athlon 64 4000+ Socket 939 CPU for ~$300? Lowest price I see on PG for example is ~326. Mobo is ~$90. Sound card ~110.

I saw the wrong listing... I saw the mobile version of the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ for $300. Sorry.

I also wonder, since you are picking it up in whatever state the tour is in, don't you have to pay tax for that state also?

This is still a OK deal. I wonder what freebies people will get for going -and staying- the entire time?

Looks like you need a solution provider login in order to join the tech tour. I logged into my account and I could join right now.

Well I registered anyways, No bundle for me, no TaxId :|.
I may still go to the seattle event though, depends on how gas prices are in June.

Edit: On another note I think that AMD and MS requiring a taxid is rather lame.
Not everyone that goes to these events happens to be a system builder, even though that is who they are geared towards. I have gone twice in the past just to learn about upcoming products and whatnot. Never purchased a bundle, and I was considering it this year to finaly jump onboard the PCI-E bandwagon.

Although there is no guarantee, last year, the Dual Opteron 246, Tyan combo changed about haflway through. They were selling the S2882

which was a good deal at the start of the tour. By the end of the tour, they had substituted in a S2892

which made that an absolutely incredible deal. The server x64 2003 Enterprise O/S didn't hurt either. That's still a great deal at $500.

You could hope they run out of that stuff and substitute a worthy board in.
