OK, finally got signed up. Here is a list of the FAQ's from the tech tour website that plainly says you need a credit card and drivers license or other government ID to pick up a bundle. NOTHING ABOUT A TAX ID. However, the confirmation e-mail may be different. I have not received that yet.

1. Who can pickup the bundle?
The only person authorized to pickup the bundle(s) ordered, is the same person who placed the order. That person will be asked for his or her driver's license and the credit card used when the order was placed.

2. Can I use somebody else credit card to place an order and pick up the bundles at the event with my ID?
No, the credit card and ID must belong to the same person
.

3. When can I pick up my bundles at the event, can I do it at the beginning of the event and then leave?
No, you must attend the event completely. The bundles distribution will be done toward the end of the event.

4. Can I change my bundle pickup to another city?
No, you must pickup your bundle at the city where the event that you registered for will take place.

5. What is the deadline to place an order for bundles for a specific city?
Two days before the event you plan on attending is the deadline to place order for either or both bundle promotions.

6. What documents do I need to present to pickup the bundle?
You need to present you driver's license or some other government ID and the credit card used when the order was placed.

7. Are you going to offer the bundles after the Tech Tours are over? Am I going to be able to order after the event?
No, you can only order the bundles if you are registered for an event and you place your orders before the event takes place.

8. Who will be the company charging my credit card? How is it going to appear in my credit card statement?
You will see in your credit card statement a charge for the amount of the bundle(s) ordered, from "Direct.com / Market Builder 2" as the merchant .

9. If I don't attend the event and I ordered bundles, can you send them to my directly?
No, you must attend the complete event to be able to pickup you bundles.

10. How long does it take to get my refund for the bundles I didn't pick up?
It should take between 7 to 10 business days after the event
.

11. If I have a problem with any of the components, who should I contact for warranty information?
The warranty is the warranty that comes with each product. You will deal directly with the component manufacture just as you would have if you purchased at a retail outlet.

Prices were just emailed for the bundles and you can now purchase them. $410.00 for the desktop bundle and $650.00 for the server bundle. Pretty damn good deal if you ask me.

I bought the bundle last year and they didn't check for TAX ID because it is not require. Since they stated clearly on the email that:

** This bundle is intended only for solution providers and system builders.
AMD and Microsoft require a Tax ID to qualify for this or any tech tour bundle promotion.

I think they will enforce it becaues I remember a lot of people show up at the Chicago event try to buy the bundle off the site and they just woudln't let any buy it at the event. Even thought there were problem with the website processing orders, i saw some people print out a copy of the error message but no luck for them. Personally this years bundle is not as hot as last year.

How you figure?

I think the desktop deal is warm, while the server deal is ice cold.

Opteron 165 ~ 350
TYAN Mobo ~ 200
Windows 2003 (i think it comes with 0 cals)

If you run up the prices over at newegg for the desktop bundle you are saving about $250ish. Thats a pretty good deal to me.

4000+ - $325
Motherboard - $80
XP Pro - $50
Sound Card - $100
Total: $555 if you bought it individually. Too bad the processor isn't dual core and too bad the motherboard is mATX (even if it has onboard DVI).

Ditto, I can save $100 on every system I build with that price.

I bought both bundles last year.... AFTER the tour (in September).

My thoughts for '06:
Desktop bundle is overpriced by $100... Server bundle is a joke.
This is shaping up to be a time share sales pitch for Vista Estates.
I think I'll pass and catch up on my sleep at home this time.

Prediction: they won't run out of bundles this year.

Edited for Jones2006 (below):
Server deal would be a consideration IF it included a RETAIL copy of Server 2003... it does not.

The First deal isn't great at all, but the Server Bundle is worth it because Windows Server 2003 is worth more then $800 by itself. The motherboard is worth $200 but the only thing I really keep is the Opteron 165.

If you sell the Mobo for a minimal of 150 and the Windows Server for $700. You'll make $150 in profit and get a free CPU that is worth over $300.

I've read a lot of comments on this thread; and just so I'm clear on it tell me if this summary is accurate

-This event is NOT like the 3 previous ones I've been to where AMD is promoting a new line and giving up stuff like shirts and cups (as well as raffling mobo/chip bundles)
-This is an industry targeted event (like CES, yet, you can possibly sneak in)
-No freebies (maybe pens?), so like point #2 above, it's more like an industry sales show
-Because of #2 and #3, more a YMMV situation

Wasn't the desktop bundle $250 last year? For $400+ you'd think they'd do X2....or at least not be so chintsy on the mobo....

Total, $460 for the hardware +possible tax (shipping is free @ these prices I believe). I say they throw in the software and offer this for 500$.

The Software looks to be around $810 with five client access licenses. We'll have to see how many come with the one in the deal. Anyways, for now, $1270 HW + SW

edit: subtracted 7$ due to new coupon code @ monarch

Bundles are too expensive for me and the scheduled event looks boring...I'll skip this event.

Not fun like the previous years. Last year was the best...good bundles and nice food.
