24 cores for 1400 and 32 cores for 2000 USD?

That is expensive. It does not put much pressure on Intel. It also does not motivate people too much to change platforms from AM4 to sTRX4. I must say I am surprised.

I bet that some people at Intel are pretty relieved now.

The general rule of thumb is that AMD was always the value option. That value option that what ever compute power you got from AMD you got cheaper then the comparable Intel solution.

Generally AMD had an inferior product. When AMD has a superior product they can charge more

Intel can afford to sell their products at the same price as AMD superior products because AMD doesn't have the capability to sell 100% of the market

AMD will sell all the 3960X and 3970X they can deliver to the market.
Same way they will sell all the 3950X and 3900X.

The 3000 series isn't as cheap as the 2000 or the 1000 series.
And I predict the 4000 series (if based on zen3) will be more expensive than the 3000 series.

3 years ago the top main stream desktop was 4c/8t. Now it is 16c/32t.

3 years ago a 6c/12t was a HEDT part. Today it is a sub $200 part.

The top HEDT part was 10c/20t with a 12c/24t part was the next gen increment. Today we have 32c/64t as the top part with possibly 48 and 64 core parts in the future.

Precisely, prices of 3600/3600x/3700x/3800x/3900x are exactly the same as first gen of Ryzen (1600 up to 1800x).

AMD should have announced the price drop already. I guess the new pricing will be revealed right with the launch.
No discounts at my watch!

Reviews are up tomorrow?
Linus "accidentally" leaked the thumbnail of this video and looks like everything went well this time for AMD.

Few tidbits.

On a positive note, 3960X and 3970X Threadrippers will be in much better supply, but of course they cost a lot more, the mainboards cost more and you need quad channel memory kits which cost more, but its a professional platform with a price to match, but if you want the best were finding the 3960X even outperforms 9900KS in games when both processors are overclocked, which makes the new threadrippers not only the fastest processors on the market for professional/content work, but also the best gaming processors.

Well how many 3960X and 3970X have you tested?

If you had tested any then you’d know these new chips run 4.50GHz boost clock and do so all core on the Ripper’s.

Then factor in quad channel 3600MHz tight latency 1:1 divider and the new thread rippers are very good.

I'd imagine the reviews will be interesting and somewhat eye opening at the same time. Stress level at Intel HQ may reach an all time high!

They know well what is coming, they already bought and tested EPYC CPUs. I believe that they actually celebrated when they learned that the 24C will not be 999, but 1399 USD.

They're pricey, but if the gaming crown also falls it'll take it's tole I'm sure.

You write such nonsese, dude... why would intel celebrate the 3960X costing 1399?? It's the exact opposite. They have NOTHING that would compete with it and AMD just stole the PPPP title from them. Premium Performance for Premium Price.

It's pricey because nothing on the platform costs less. It will still be a value product over Cascade Lake -X. Intel is angry at the 3960x because they had to premptively decrease the price on what was a 2k cpu when they are hurt up for wafer supply to half the price to still be able to sell them.

In LTT's Cascade Lake X review there are blurred results of 24 cores and 32 cores Threadrippers.
Reviews at 9:00 EST.

Boy is he pissed at Intel. There was so much talk about how bad they are that I could't see comments on the chips, but I did see in the charts that the 3950x won quite a few. Of course the real competition (3960x) could not be shown yet.

AMD forgot to lower the prices. I am shattered.

The cheapest board available here is ASUS TRX40-PRO for 400 USD (VAT excluded)

AMD becoming a market leader selling far best products on the market and also selfconfidently charging high prices for them - that is something I am probably just beginning to grasp and getting used to.

Why lower your prices when you can release a top in class product and make the competition lower theirs?

If you want AMD to lower their prices start cheering for Intel to make a resurgence.

My god, the 3970x now beats the 9900k in games almost all the time ! (I stopped watching after a bunch of games)

We have a new gaming king ??

We definitely have a new productivity king. It blows the 2990wx out of the water.

Only in two games - Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Computerbase shows that in some games like Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus don't know what to do with so many threads and performance in those titles is abysmal.

I'm surprised how much better the 3970x and 3960x than the 2990WX. Now I need some trx40 reviews. I might actually grab them if I can find a decent BF deal. Wondering if the 3990X will work on trx40 or if I'll need trx80.

What's weird is that AT's gaming benchmarks seem to show the new Threadrippers dropping to the bottom of the pile as resolutions increase. I mean, the difference at those FPS numbers generally isn't huge, but it's the opposite of what usually happens - some problem with the graphics driver, perhaps?

Also, yowch on the pricing - early adopter tax I know, but £1,800 minimum for 3960X and TRX4 motherboard is pretty eye-watering. As unimpressive as Cascade Lake-X is as a general release, I have to admit Intel that seem to have carved themselves a niche for a comparatively affordable HEDT platform, given how quickly the older Threadripper models and TR4 motherboards have dropped out of the market.
