OK, I seriously don't get it. Just two weeks ago, AMD started lifting the NDA on the Trinity ("AMD gave [Anandtech] the green light to begin sharing some details including GPU performance" - not even CPU performance, which was lifted only about 10 days ago). Widespread APU availability wasn't expected until about now. Yet today I was at a local Office Depot which had two Trinity-based HP desktops on clearance. Not on sale, on clearance with yellow tags.

I should have taken a picture of the tags. Maybe I will if I find the time to go back to the store tomorrow, but I am pretty sure it was these two PCs, for less than what they are listed for online.

The people in the reviews are talking about how they've owned their computer for a "month" and the dates on their posts are from mid August. I'm assuming Office Depot made a mistake and had the old version on clearance, but updated the product to the new version HP is selling now.

I agree that Trinity-based desktops have been available. HPs and Acers of the world have been the recipients of the initial batches of Trinities and it's the parts retailers (like Newegg, Amazon and Tigerdirect )that are just getting their hands on it. But like you said, those desktops have only been out for two, three months at most. And already on clearance? Someone is obviously doing a very sh*tty job at marketing.

Also checking the specs, we all know these APU's benefit from higher speed system memory. But the computer at the above link have 1333mhz speed memory.
Less than optimum for the buyer.

Do you have a price. My oldest grandson uses my computer and his younger brother wants in on the action . Although he is same age as his brother was when I let him use the computer 2 1/2 years the 2 brothers are not the same , I have to treat them as if they were though as its the only fair. I could go for a real cheap PC ffor the little one to pound keys on

I thought Trinity was released to OEMs a few months ago?
Yes it was and it's available now too. I don't know where OP was searching for it but quick search on google gave me few major online stores that have it in stock or for pre-order (OEM machines based on Trinity):

Too bad I did not take a pic of the tags. It wasn't anything drastic though (otherwise I would have put it into the Hot Deals forum :biggrin. I think it was something like $589 for the A10 and maybe $479 for the A8.

To me, those PCs need to be in the $300 to be truly hot. In the $400 range, I would rather get an i3. At that A10's price, you can almost get an i7-3770 (although with no discrete graphics). If I read you correctly, you don't care about discrete graphics at this point.

EDIT: OOS now, but here is a Trinity PC priced right to my tastes ($385 shipped). It's refurbished (which is would not be a concern to me).

Exactly. Maybe 3 months ago or so, and they are already on clearance? They barely cleared out Llanos and are already having a hard time pitching Trinities?

My only point is the computer has been available for more than a couple weeks, and the reason it's on clearance may or may not be due to Trinity. For example they may just be trying to clear out inventory of Win 7 based machines.

I think "clearance" is just a gimmick to say they were overpriced. I have seen then in big box stores here in Minneapolis, but in the 600 to 800 dollar range. The problem is they need to be 500 or below for an a10 to be really attractive, since sandy i3 and i5 models are really cheap now. For instance best buy this week has an i3 for 399.00.

This is actually not as incredible as it looks. Having worked at Staples in a previous life, I can tell you that computers are replaced by retailers every quarter. They are all put on clearance, regardless of the age of the components, to bring in 'new' models.

So they may be taking a small hit on these Trinitys in the hope that they will make more profit with the next round.

brick and mortar stores put computers on clearance all the time every 3 months they get a new line from the OEMs HP and Dell. Usually the winter refresh computers come out in early to mid October but because of Windows 8 they are coming out in late October early November
