Overall the platform seems to the best thing AMD has made in a while. Overall the hardware at launch seems to be a big step up from the AMD fusion launch. Considering getting one of those Samsung notebooks to replace my aging and dying netbook. What are you guys think of the platform?

A 1440/1600x900 14" A10 around $700 would be the perfect laptop for many methinks.

suscribed.

And yes, a 13-14 in screen with 1400 x 900 resolution would be great. Add eSATa and I am in

HP has the sleekbook for sale and it's customizable. You can get 4GB stick 1600mhz with the A10-4655m 25W chip for ~$650. The price isn't bad at all but if they offered a 1080p display for $100 more and a 6-cell I'd be all over it. Unfortunately it's just a 4-cell battery and no option other than x768 resolution. It's also only slightly under 5lbs...

The form factor is too big for what you're getting, albeit the price is right. That's a pass for me.

I say get the Samsung Series with AMD trinity it is half a pound light than the HP and a little thinner though you can only get with the A6 processor which isn't bad though. The screen is the same resolution though but it is 13" instead of 15" and it is wait for MATTE FINISH!!!!11one That alone makes me go for it rather then the HP. I say go for Samsung.

The A6 wouldn't cut it for me. I need the A10-4655m or an A10-4600m.

A single stick of 4GB RAM is about the dumbest thing about it. There is no easy way to get to the RAM either. The Sleekbook has no detachable battery (the bottom cover is a single screwed on piece) and is only 4-cell at 15.6" with x768 Had it been 14" and an access panel I'd have bought it in a heartbeat.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series.../dp/B0083S3N3W

That looks to be a better buy though slightly too costly when compared to the sleekbook. What sucks is that they offer the sleekbook in 14" with Intel chips but not with AMD chips. Considering the A10-4655m performs only slightly worse than a GT630m in gaming (estimation. The 7660G performs roughly on par with the GT630m) and has better battery life and it's not a Fermi I'd much rather have that.

I'm hoping they'll release a 14" version soon or it'll be just another case of OEMs having absolutely no idea what they're doing with anything AMD.

The A10 is 25watt no something you would fit into a 13" laptop and so A6 is acceptable. Well consider many of the ultrabooks have the limitations you describe, most don't have high res displays and don't ship with any discrete graphics and also have no up-gradable ram. These limitations come with the territory especially for the price. However AMD said their will be premium ultra-thins with high res displays some with touchscreens (not that I would use it lol), I guess just wait for more systems.

Yeah no way you can stick a full power quad core IVB and a GT650M in an 11" notebook...oh wait, YOU CAN.

Theres no reason a 25w or even 35w APU couldn't be stuck in a 13-14" laptop.

There are 13" and 14" Ultrabooks with discrete GPUs. With AMD's chip you can bypass the discrete GPU or add a 7670 for crossfire.

There's no reason the A10-4655m wouldn't fit in an ultrathin 13/14" design other than OEMs shafting the AMD laptops with high margins and poor execution again.

How are they giving AMD the shaft the reference designs are based on the A6 processor that simple.
edit: besides its a capable processor capable of playing games and driving multiple displays.

A single module with 256 shader cores at <500mhz is sufficient for you? Get a netbook. The performance will be roughly the same and you'll save yourself about $500.

If HP makes an envy 14" with a Trinity A10-4655m I'll consider buying that but considering the comparatively unimpressive performance when compared to a Llano to justify that high a price tag they'll certainly have to do better with the RAM configuration. You can buy an A6-3500m with 6650m GPU for under $500 and it also weighs ~5lbs and you're not limited by a single stick of 1600mhz that'll half your performance.

Netbook performance is crap single core ATOM 1.6ghz with crap integrated graphics. The A6 far exceeds a netbook in terms of performance and should provide good performance in game even the lowly AMD Fusion not trinity A4 was capable of playing Crysis, running multiple displays and editing HD Video. I'm not too worried about performance. The HP can be configured with a 1600x900 display
edit: as for ram on the Samsung will let you add 8gb

Does anyone know if the hard drive would be removable in a sleekbook? Would be nice to be able to get one w/ an SSD.

The bottom casing is unibody so it's probably more difficult than it is with the dv#-line of laptops which have access panels. That is a good question, though.

Apparently the Linux Kernel has official support for AMD Trinity thanks to patches from AMD, just another reason for me to buy.

If you end up getting the sleekbook let me know what you think of it I'm definitely considering it atm, along with upgrading to an aftermarket SSD and 8GB LV DDR1600 RAM.

I'm going to get the Samsung which is generally easier to upgrade.

I just got the Samsung 13.3 inch 535u3c. Had just barely enough time to remove the HDD and put in my existing crucial c300 SSD in there. The HDD tray takes only a thin profile disk and not any standard 2.5 inch drive. Also, looks like the 4GB RAM is soldered into the board. It has only one SODIMM slot so I'll be getting a 4GB module today before I fully give it a spin. Max supported is listed as 8GB otherwise I was planning on adding a 8GB module giving a total of 12GB.

The build quality is definitely great and it compares to the 530 Intel based model. This is a first of sorts for AMD based ultrathin and I appreciate Samsung for not treating AMD like a step son. The machine surely feels light at around 3.2 pounds. Also the screen and body have minimal flex. It certainly does not fall in the same ball park as Asus ux31 but surely competitive.

On the OS front I do not run Windows. I have not even powered it on once with the stock HDD and haven't even agreed to the license and set up. So I am not certain of windows performance. My Linux install boots up in around 20 seconds and I am sure I can tweak it to boot faster. Suspend to RAM takes 5 seconds and resume is less than that even on linux.

I have never bought something this new and there was no prior reviews at all. I can write more if anyone has any specific questions.

How well does the A6-4455M perform? Does it have enough CPU power to not get bogged down with web browsing and other everyday tasks?

Browsing is not at all a problem. It zips through the task easily. I need to run it through some youtube videos to check flash performance. But I fully expect it to run through it easily.

I'll add my observation to this thread over the next few days. The laptop is at home and I received it only yesterday evening and I havent been able to test much due to busy work schedule.
