I just got the Samsung 13.3 inch 535u3c. Had just barely enough time to remove the HDD and put in my existing crucial c300 SSD in there. The HDD tray takes only a thin profile disk and not any standard 2.5 inch drive. Also, looks like the 4GB RAM is soldered into the board. It has only one SODIMM slot so I'll be getting a 4GB module today before I fully give it a spin. Max supported is listed as 8GB otherwise I was planning on adding a 8GB module giving a total of 12GB.

The build quality is definitely great and it compares to the 530 Intel based model. This is a first of sorts for AMD based ultrathin and I appreciate Samsung for not treating AMD like a step son. The machine surely feels light at around 3.2 pounds. Also the screen and body have minimal flex. It certainly does not fall in the same ball park as Asus ux31 but surely competitive.

On the OS front I do not run Windows. I have not even powered it on once with the stock HDD and haven't even agreed to the license and set up. So I am not certain of windows performance. My Linux install boots up in around 20 seconds and I am sure I can tweak it to boot faster. Suspend to RAM takes 5 seconds and resume is less than that even on linux.

I have never bought something this new and there was no prior reviews at all. I can write more if anyone has any specific questions.

Just to add to my note and clarify things. According to AMD trinity specs it has a dual channel memory controller. The laptop has only one memory slot, which is also empty. The other dimm is soldered into the motherboard. So to fully take advantage of dual channel controller one has to add dimm in the slot. I wish Samsung officially supported 8GB dimm.

Apparently the Linux Kernel has official support for AMD Trinity thanks to patches from AMD, just another reason for me to buy.

Looks like support for trinity was merged only in kernel version 3.4. I am running 3.3.x and none of the acpi sensors are detected. acpitool is not even detecting battery and temperature. Looks like I need to update to 3.4 soon. Also my samsung np535u3c has an aggressive fan under the current kernel. Hopefully 3.4 should silence the fans a bit. Additionally, you need the latest fglrx drivers from AMD. The version that I have 8.961 shows an "unsupported hardware" warning watermark on the right bottom of the screen.

So I need kernel 3.4 and newer fglrx built for the kernel.

Browsing is not at all a problem. It zips through the task easily. I need to run it through some youtube videos to check flash performance. But I fully expect it to run through it easily.

I'll add my observation to this thread over the next few days. The laptop is at home and I received it only yesterday evening and I havent been able to test much due to busy work schedule.
Good to hear. Would definitely be interested in your impression of the A6-4455M's performance after you've had a chance to use the laptop some more.

Netbook performance is crap single core ATOM 1.6ghz with crap integrated graphics. The A6 far exceeds a netbook in terms of performance and should provide good performance in game even the lowly AMD Fusion not trinity A4 was capable of playing Crysis, running multiple displays and editing HD Video.
Atom has been dual core w/Hyper-threading (4 threads) since 2010 with the N5xx series, and they're now on the N2600/N2800 series which is also dual core / 4 threads. Atom hasn't been "single core" for around 2 years.

There's no reason the A10-4655m wouldn't fit in an ultrathin 13/14" design other than OEMs shafting the AMD laptops with high margins and poor execution again.
Anyone know what the smallest/lightest laptop with this chip in it is right now? A quick glance gave me some 14" and 15.6" models. I'd like an ultrathin 11.6" with A10-4655m. Can it be done?

Sorry about that, I forgot ATOM has been upgraded however I'm keen on using something else.

Well it appears that AMD is providing the A6 for these products because it is 17watt and could probably fit directly in a ultrabook design without too much re-engineering any who the A10 is 25 watt which could in theory fit in one so maybe you find products that 13" or less with A10.

While I try downloading and benchmarking unigine, I ran some browser benchmarks. Nothing special just the usual suspects. I usually use firefox but for the benchmarks I ran them under Chrome 18. I know its not the latest at the moment but I don't think results would vary much.

Chromium ver: 18.0.1025.168
Sunspider: 439.9ms
V8: 4856
Kraken: 5045.1ms
Peacekeeper: 2031

I think I'll have to update the fglrx graphics driver before I can benchmark unigine. Let me figure this out and then post an update.

I saw this guy on Provantage and the specs say it comes with the "HD+" screen, which I'm pretty sure is the 1600x900 one. It's looks to be pretty much exactly what I was looking for in a laptop, so I decided to order one. It's about the same size as my current Dell Vostro 1400 (1.8 GHz C2D, 8400M GS), but about a half-pound lighter, which is fine by me since I thought the Vostro was fine to carry around.

I can post back with what I find when I get it in a few days.

have you or anyone else made any progress benchmarking these systems. I want know what the performance is for the A6 platform or a10. I reccomend the dream benchmark from unigene because it is free and cross platform, but anything is appreciated.

Did a quick google search:
http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/Mi..._sku=B5P19UT#ABA&jumpid=ex_r2910_gps/compshop

If that's right, it is indeed a 16x9 14" as well as a 7200RPM HDD and 1600MHz RAM. 55Wh battery to boot (vs the usual 45Wh)...that's damn near perfect. I'd be cool getting Prem instead of Pro if I could get it for $700. Very near a perfect package. Wonder how the build quality is...get that right and it may be the best buy in this price range.

I just got the laptop and can confirm that it is indeed 1600x900! I'm not exactly sure what the screen type is. It doesn't look as good as my Dell 2407FPW, but I'm fine with it. I think the trick is to get one that advertises an HD+ display instead of HD.

Initial impressions are that it is solidly built. I don't notice any flexing, creaks, or anything like that, but beyond that I'm probably not the best judge of build quality. At the very least, it's as good as my Dell Vostro 1400. The material is a gunmetal plastic all around, with a brushed look on the palm rest.

The finger pad supports multi-touch! Maybe all new laptops have this feature, but I thought it was pretty neat. Drag with two fingers to scroll documents. The keyboard seems fine, though I need to get used to the half-sized up and down arrow keys (the Vostro had full-size arrows); I keep hitting Shift when I want to hit Up, but I'm typing this on the laptop without trouble.

The laptop comes with 3 recovery DVDs: an "Application and Driver Recovery" disc, Windows 7 Pro SP1 32-bit, and Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit. I thought that was a nice touch since it seems like other laptops just give you a recovery partition (this has that, too).

I am quoting this, because you have found my next laptop. If it truly is 1600 x 900, in for one. Would have liked backlighted keyboard, but oh well, minor detail

Credit card, where are you?

Edit: How long did it take to arrive?
Edit 2: It doesn't have HDMI, it has displayport instead, right?

I ordered the laptop Monday and got it today using Provantage's 2-day shipping, but I'm only one state over from their warehouse.

The laptop has a DisplayPort output. I haven't used it so I don't know if it outputs audio (apparently not all laptops do).

One oddity I did notice is that both speakers are on the left side of the laptop. Not a huge deal for me, especially since the headphone out sounds pretty good.

Also, almost the entire bottom panel comes off by sliding a latch (like the battery release latch) and sliding the panel off. I was able to confirm that mine does indeed have two 4GB DIMMS in it.

So can we get some gaming results/benchmarks? I'm curious to see how the A10 does with dual channel 1600MHz RAM. Everybody seems to test the A6s and such with single channel 1333MHz. Also wondering how it handles the 16x9 resolution. General performance numbers would be bonus...can it compete with an i5 IVB?

Later today I'll load a few games on there and give them a whirl. I have Crysis 2, Skyrim, and Portal 2, so I can at least try those. Anything else in particular I should try?

Well, I did manage to try out Crysis 2 and played the first few minutes of the game, fighting the first enemies when you first get outside. The frame rate seemed to hover in the mid- to high-teens range. When I played, I just set the resolution to 16x9 and left it at the High preset. I then ran then the pictured benchmark tool I found, mainly sticking to what I think is the default High setting. I did try one run with the Extreme setting just to see what would happen.

I can try a few other games out, but those probably won't come until sometime next week.

I am sorry, no driver update from AMD yet. At the moment with older xorg driver I am getting only around 15fps in unigine at default settings at 1366x768. Reducing details pushes it to 20fps. But I cannot assume this as reliable numbers because of unsupported drivers.

Just to note I am running with 8GB of memory at dual channel configuration.

Cool beans, whenever you have time is fine... I'm just curious. Don't really have any specific requests, though I am curious what the setting would be to get 35+FPS average at 1600x900?

Well, I bit the bullet. Ordered one Friday, should be here Tuesday.
I'll let everyone know how I like it once I get it
