Is this hardware going to die off? I think like only one game supported it, does anyone have any insight if AMD will continue or augment this, or are they heading to toward VR with it?
The problem had been that current GPUs don't have priority handling and latency guarantees. I've seen the patent in question over at b3d and that could very well fix that at the expense of one or more SIMD vector units that are taken aside for audio calculations."I heard they're working on a method to use GPU compute for audio processing. They're pretty much abandoning the dedicated audio DSP, as far as I know."
I am very surprised this has not been pursued more considering the awesome progress Aureal did in this field back in the day and with much less potent hardware to compute audio.
