Dont come here and tell me that the whole road from engineering to launch have been full of errors and mistakes.

Let me mention a few keywords:
HBM2
Capsaicin
Delays
Capsaicin & Cream
"We announce today that we will announce something soon"
"Today we announce the names!!!"
Delay after delay but lets release professional cards first
Worst efficiency in years
Almost no IPC gain from years and years of engineering and design

Radeon couldnt have executed this any worse. Rubbish.

We know a lot about what the end result is but we know absolutely nothing about why the end result is what it is. I'm not even arguing that Raja won't be fired. It could still happen for all we know, but making such a fuss about it when we lack any relevant information is stupid.

You're speaking from the perspective of a gamer disappointed that it took a long time and apparently won't be a "home run" part.

I'm disappointed too, my 290 aftermarket was a HUGE value with all the games they tossed in. I skipped FuryX because I couldn't see buying a "next gen" 4GB card when I already had a 4GB card. I ended up buying a 1080Ti FE because I had a good tax return this year and this card was nowhere in sight. (and some are even saying it's a paper launch now- five months after 1080Ti dropped!)

I stand by what I said though- just because your part is not the best, the marketers still have to generate excitement for it as best they can and maintain interest in the part. It's all they CAN do, it is their JOB.

They are not allowed to say, "F this crap, you guys should take a cue from Oatis and buy a 1080!", no , they have to come up with catchy launch event stuff or their kids don't get groceries.

That is the reality of this launch. It is not some tweener game where they can just throw away the part and fire Raja for the crime of not beating NVIDIA.

It 's multi-billion dollar business where when you don't hit the home run, you point out what did go right, hype as best you can legally, and hope enough people buy to fund the next design.

That is reality, that is the adult world. They owe us no apologies for doing their jobs the best they can.

I bought a 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor a year ago. Why? Because AMD didn't have a high end card available and to be honest, I'm perfectly fine with being locked into NVIDIA for the next few years because they simply deliver. Hopefully AMD can get their act together by the time I'm looking at 4k 144hz monitors. This coming from a guy that rocked 4850, 4870, 4890, 6870, 7950, 7970 and 390 AMD gpus...

I've been a long time Radeon user all the way back to my beloved Rage 128. Miners drove me out of the AMD camp. I spontaneously picked up the 1080 Ti because it was new (and I got in on the first wave of Pre-Orders), but definitely glad I didn't wait for Vega. Welps if the current road maps are any indication, Navi won't be around until late 2018 or early 2019, so it seems whatever Volta brings along I'll most likely stay in the green camp for another year or two. So buying into G-Sync just seemed natural.

Vega FE cooler did just fine. It was power limited. Acoustics and thermals were on the level of NVIDIA's FE cards.

I for one would like to know how they plan to cool ~300-375W TDP with this cooler design:

It's pretty decent for +-300W if we're looking at FE reviews. Should be the same design. Nothing special and of course there will be throttling, but that's how every reference design works.

It's a lot better looking card than what Kyle had over at HardOCP. This one looks like a card you might spend $500 on at least. The slab Kyle had looked like two hundred bucks, maybe.

Yeah, throttle city, like pretty much all their other cards that used a blower.
Would be nice to see a Tri-X type of cooler at launch, but, it doesn't look like that will happen.

I'm seriously debating waiting for Volta at this point. $600 isn't a lot of money ofr a WC card, but a GTX 1080 really isn't that fast....

I'm sad I waited so long for a card that won't be able to handle GTA 5 fully modded .

I'mi unable to edit the Freesync range on my monitor, so I'm stuck with a 48 minimum for freesync which even if I lower the settings...

Fun stuff.

Also on a side note, why aren't we factoring in the mining capabilities of cards? Before, we used to always say:

"And you can mine with AMD!"

Now when it seems like these cards won't be great miners, we aren't acknowleding the lower power consumption and mining capabilities of Nvidia cards?

It doesn't make up the $600-1000 monitor price difference for me at the 4K resolution, but at 1440p it might make up $300 to have been able to mine or be able to mine efficiently.

To be fair, Vega mining with Monero is 1.8x faster than a 1080ti.
Will it be using 1.8x more power than a 1080ti? I don't think that is the case.
So, it highly depends, and if Vega RX can be undervolted, it still could make financial sense for a miner.

Sidenote, has anyone seen the mining specific card boxes yet? Do they list the rate for each cryptocurrency, or is it just a "mining card"?

So is it pretty much confirmed there is no secret RX Vega sauce?

Edit: GTX 1080 on sale for ~$460 on Ebay by newegg right now.... ya... this is fun.

Edit: Also there are more Budget GSync offerings than I realized. The AOC monitor is $800 IPS and there are cheaper TN Gsync monitors. All tiny below 30 inches at 27-28 but still... AMD is going to need to offer a more compelling offer.

They don't need to right now... people are buying up cards like nobodies business.
It is every computer store's profitable business haha

I think even and and nvidia caught offguard by the amount they raked in selling their gpus vs their predictions

This changes things how? 37MH/s Vega FE gets on Ethereum is much more profitable than 1160H/s it gets on Monero.

I've read some people's reports on the mining cards. It's a regular card just rebranded as mining and lower warranty.

AMD used to be better, but Nvidia is better than AMD in most coins other than a few. Plus they use less power to boot. Come Volta Nvidia will probably beat them in Mining and Gaming.

"Bundles are the best chance to get Vega as a way to "poison the well" and deter miner hoarding (Vega + games, hardware, etc). The official word though is that AMD wants you to buy an entire ecosystem and really get into Freesync"
So... you're saying that for me to buy you're gpu I also need to buy a CPU/Mobo and Monitor....

Well guess my chances of getting this card are minimal at best. It's like AMD is trying their best every year to make sure I can't get their GPU.

Considering that RX Vega has 50-60% higher clocks than Fury X, this is really not all that impressive. It basically means mediocre clock scaling and no meaningful architectural performance gains. And this is from AMD's own numbers, what we must assume is among the best-case scenarios.
