My girlfriend is buying a pc and needs some advice! Tried googling for some reviews but theres no direct comparison between the two.

930D looks very very nice for the price. On par with the 3800+ in benchmarks and office apps, only falls behind marginally in gaming. However they new 65nm cores overclock very well, especially known on stock voltage. Making it very user friendly by not taking big risks.

Yes, both are good cpu's for the price.

In short, the 3500+ would be faster, but the 805 would be better for multi-tasking.

If she's buying a prebuilt then look at the total package and price.

Either CPU is good for most tasks, but the A64 is much better for gaming at stock speed when paired with a good graphics card (not intel motherboard graphics).

Many prebuilt AMD systems come with a PCI-E slot for a graphics card while many low-end intel boxes do not. Again, look at the complete system.

Well heres the deal. She wants to order a pc by tommorrow. Doesnt need it for gaming, just using the internet, usual downloading, ripping and burning cds. She just wants it a little more future proof (i know theres no such thing with computers!).

Heres the two current deals:

The more expensive one has twice the memory (@1gig) and larger hard disk drive (@ 250GB). Seems reasonable for only an additional £50. BUT we're not sure about the processors??

thecoffeeguy: It does suck, but for a girl who just going to use the computer now and again its not bad!.. considering the specs and price its one of the best deals going esp. with a 19" flat panel screen.

If your girlfriend is just browsing, chatting, or doing some works.. go with cheaper one (AMD) and 512mb RAM and 160GB HD is good enough for basic use.

QOL might matter to her. If you're not gaming, you can get system that will be quite on stock fans. Some Intels run very hot, some don't. I don't know enough about the entire Intel line to know which ones are the quite (low temperature) ones.

I know that my (old) A64 3000+ tops out at 45c under sustained full load. Upper 30s when doing things besides gaming.

For gamers and geeks - AMD.

And why not Apple with an Intel processor?

She's got a budget of £500, Apples here in the UK are quite dear. I think i'll advise her to get the Intel - that package has twice the ram and alot more h/d... 250gb compared to 160gb with the amd package.

I've currently got a geeky amd fx-53, she can have the non-gaming intel!
