Used both in the past.Prefer NV cards now.I always opt for the fastest single gpu regardless of brand though. But a suggestion to AMD,do away with xfx. They are polluting AMD's reputation.

Rendition v1000 FTW!

Hell yeah. vQuake was pretty freaking awesome, I must say. Also, quake 1 is still the best multiplayer action FPS of all time. It had a rather insane frenetic pace that made it a ton of fun, I'm pretty sure I played that game more than any other.

Whichever gives me the best price/performance. I dont care who its from, though i would take an HD7970 over a 680 because im angry that nvidia released a mid range card as their flagship.

We had this thread a while ago I believe.

I like to bring this up from time to time. Experiences change and with that, opinions change. I used to be a Rendition Verite' v1000 snob. Eventually got a 3Dfx Voodoo 2. And the rest is history. In some thread ages ago, I listed just about every graphics card I ever had. Times change. Prefs. change.

Carmak's word was law for me for years. I loved vQuake and couldn't get my co-workers to jump on the bandwagon. They were still playing Doom 2 and Duke Nukem 3D.

Fair enough.

As long as I use multi-GPU: Nvidia
I like goodies like ambient occlusion, PhysX (a bit meh lately, not really much happening) and downsampling. In the future possibly TXAA, depening on how that turns out.
What I miss is LOD adjustment for SGSSAA and more performance in higher resolutions.

Suggestion for you.

1. Goto College
2. Get degree
3. Make a crapton of money so you don't have to bitcoin

1. Did
2. Did.
3. Have that job.

Any more condescending remarks you'd like to add? The fact remains that Nvidia's cards do not make money for me and AMD's do.

So would I rather pay $450 for a card that will earn about $60/month? Or would I rather pay $400-$500 for a card that will not.

hmm...let me think about that...

P.S. I PMed blockheadbrown so that way we can talk about that in PMs and not derail this thread.

I don't have a brand preference, but I will say why I chose a Radeon HD 5770 last summer over Nvidia's closest competitor, the GTS 450. The 5770 just seemed to have a better price/performance ratio. Also, I had heard of driver problems on Nvidia cards with one of my favorite games, Mass Effect 2, so I wanted to steer clear of that.

in theroy yes
ive tried every methond of driver cleaning and it always end up with having to just reinstall windows

that's why you shouldn't use "driver cleaning apps"....

using atiman or driver-sweper should be your last option, even re-download the driver is a better idea

I agree. I've used these apps in the past and what they do sometimes is delete more system critical files than they should, and there have been times that i've ended up with a non functional OS with no option except re-installing.

I only use control panel for removing old drivers now. The nvidia installer has had a "clean install" option for some time , as well.

Despite anecdotes one way or the other, both of them put out good stuff. I used AMD cards mostly the last few years, but only because their particular cards filled my niche at that time. I just switched to a 670, couldn't be happier.

The driver business.... overblown.
