I need to pick up a motherboard and some RAM, can anyone suggest any good deals on NewEgg. I seriously haven't bought a computer in like 3-4 years... I'm out of the loop on current hardware :-\ ... Appreciate the help.

Edit: A motherboard that will work with this processor that is.

Any Nforce 4 board should do. And whatever the cheapest DDR400 is. I assume you dont plan on overclocking...

Nah... Just normal daily use + some photoshop and other misc programs.

Thanks. My AMD XP1800+ (original) just blew up yesterday, haha... The mobo caught on fire almost, a lot of smoke... it gave me a good 4 years or so...

Here's my board that I paid 2x more a year ago. This is really tempting me to upgrade my 3000+ though!

I have the SLI version. Rock solid performer, works well under Vista too.

If you aren't reusing DDR ram that you already have, it might be better to go with an Intel Core 2 Duo instead. With ram prices coming down, you won't pay much more for a C2D system (or even AM2) if you are starting from scratch. I went 939, but I already had the ram. If I was starting with nothing I would have went C2D. Either way you'll have a decent system, but at least price it out before you go 939.

Agreed. If you are looking to buy more RAM anyway you'll want to get an AM2 AMD X2 or a Intel Core 2 Duo. AM2 chips can be had very inexpensivly.

Ty OP! I've been looking for one of these at a reasonable price! I thought the ones I could find in the ones I found in the FS/FT forums were a bit high. Does anyone know if the stock hs/fan from an athlon 64 3200+ will be ok for this cpu ( I won't be OCing)?

Thanks OP. I have a NF4 board w/ A64 3200+. Hopefully with another GB or ram I should notice a difference correct?

From what I've heard, yes, but how much depends on what you're running.

When I upgraded from 1GB to 2GB with my 3500+ (single core A64XP) I noticed a huge difference in memory hungry apps like photoshop and some games. I grabbed an X24400 from the egg last week. Note, the ADA chips (like the one in this post) use 110W versus the ADV ones that use 89W. I paid the extra for the ADV.
