I ordered one of the retail 3800 dual cores Newegg had recently, but it said "insufficient stock". I checked my cart, but it didn't show anything. I then ordered an OEM and an inexpensive heatsink. Later that day I found out both shipped, oops. I got online and Newegg immediately offered multiple solutions, but in the end a friend wanted the OEM.
I requested 2nd day for the retail CPU and standard ground for the OEM. The retail shipped from Tennessee and was here in 2 days from the time ordered. The OEM shipped from California and was here in 3 days. There is nothing wrong with Newegg shipping, except I hate UPS. Although this time they placed the packages ok, they often use the hurl and run style delivery. Some boxes look like they were axed in the past.
I went to a TigerDirect Outlet in Miami in person and bought a "new" socket 939 Tforce 6100. I brought it home and installed the CPU put it and all the other hardware in the case and started the computer only to find the video was dead. I ripped apart several other PCs to try known working hardware, but still had no video on post and the LEDs on the board said it was ok. I took the board out and inspected it, finding a 2" long x 1/16th inch trace fried on the back adjacent the CPU, however I didn't smell or see any smoke at any time. I took it back to Tiger in person. I couldn't exchange it because they had 3 boards left, one had all the parts literally smashed into the motherboard, the other two had most of the accessories and manuals stolen, but they did ask me not to open the boxes. They gave me a runaround, refused any refund, then wanted a "15% restocking fee" for a DOA board that would never be restocked, which kind of set me off, but they finally agreed to at least give full credit for a later purchase. This was a painful very process.
