939 users don't think buy!!! This might be your last chance as 939 X2's are disappearing..

939 Opterons are everywhere but they are expensive as hell.

Anyway, I know that Newegg has free 3-day shipping but it is BS when the order is processed/paid for on Tuesday and they don't ship until Thursday. Combined with no weekend delivery it still takes almost a week before you get the processor.

Thanks for listening.

Probably for a good deal more, quite likely used, and definately not from a retailer as reputable as the egg.

I agree with zebo...if you're thinking of sticking with s939 for awhile I'd snap these up now.

Tiger has this for $99.99 + S/H after a $20 rebate - a bit better than the egg deal, if you don't mind the small rebate.

The funny thing is that I recently bought a bunch of 939 parts for a minor upgrade for my AXP 2500 system. I bought a 3200 Venice since the going rate for x2 was high and I was being cheap. I have to decide if the 3800 at $120-$130 is worth it now.

Edit: A motherboard that will work with this processor that is.

If you aren't reusing DDR ram that you already have, it might be better to go with an Intel Core 2 Duo instead. With ram prices coming down, you won't pay much more for a C2D system (or even AM2) if you are starting from scratch. I went 939, but I already had the ram. If I was starting with nothing I would have went C2D. Either way you'll have a decent system, but at least price it out before you go 939.

I agree, "hot deals" on these 939 chips are really only hot for those with existing 939 rigs that haven't yet upgraded to dualcore.

For instance, this $120 would be a great upgrade for my existing single core 3000+ rig because I already have the motherboard/ram/everything - just need the more powerful CPU, however if I'm going to be buying the motherboard and ram as well I'd most likely upgrade to and Intel C2D system - faster at stock vs. stock and should be even faster should overclocking be considered. The only way I wouldn't consider it is if I absolutely couldn't pony up the extra $50 it might take to go the Intel route - of which if that is the case I'd probably reconsider whether or not I should be getting dualcore in the first place...

are you talking about email response? I once ordered from newegg where I actually received shipment before all they were able to email me tracking numbers - standard 3day shipping as well.

Totally agree. When I was looking at buying an expensive intel motherboard, a C2D and new ram to replace my existing stuff...it didn't look like much of a deal anymore. So I snagged a dual core s939 chip, overclocked it to 2.4ghz and now I'm sitting on that. The C2D are great chips. But frankly, the video card is more important for games and continues to be.

This is why AM2 is so uninteresting to me. I'd be looking at the same hassle of a complete replacement of everything for no real performance gain. And with memory prices the way they are, I'd be losing money to do a sidegrade. The only benefit would be I'd have the newer memory to make upgrading easier. But I figure...I'll just cross that whole bridge once, when I need too.

Not just the email. I got the tracking number this morning. The item is still in CA.

Yeah, Newegg is getting lazy about shipping. I ordered it Tuesday, and it just left the dist. center today, 2 days later. Says it will be here monday. So much for "3 day" shipping.

Uh, the website says it can take 24-48 hours to process the order, and the 3 day shipping starts when they ship it. Besides its FREE shipping, what are you complaining about? Also, it must depend on when you order and where you are in relation to where it ships from, because i ordered mine at about 7:30am Wednesday, it shipped out that night and will be here tomorrow.

I'm not RossMAN. Several members have the GN title.

I ordered early Wednesday morning, NE shipped it Wednesday afternoon and I received Thursday afternoon. They shipped from their TN warehouse and I live in AL so it's a short haul.

They can put all the legal BS they want on their website, but it doesnt change the fact that they used to process and ship out orders much faster.

This is true in my experience also. I have been ordering from NE since they first opened in 2001. For the first several years they were in business, NE shipped same day no matter what. As they became larger and more popular their prep to ship time became longer. I believe that's why they opened the warehouses in NJ and TN a while back. Even with the additional strategically placed warehouses they still sometimes have problems shipping on time. Although I had a good experience with this order it took them almost a week to ship another order last month. I also had problems with packing for a while from the TN warehouse. I think they had a sloppy employee and took action to correct because I have not had this problem recently.

I know what the website says.
I don't get understand how mine is "In Processing" for two days after the payment is processed immediately while others have their order sent out the very same day.
If it was a matter of "where I was located" then the logical thing would have been to ship from ANYWHERE but California but that still doesn't have any relavance to processing times.
BTW don't you think NE builds the price of "free shipping" into the product?

All I'm saying is, is that the website gives you a 'worst case' (48 hours to process + 3 business days to ship) so you really shouldn't expect it sooner or complain if it takes that long. Just because they have done it faster in the past doesn't mean they can always ship it out that fast. I can see your complaining if they claimed it would be faster, or you actually paid to process and ship sooner, but they didn't claim it and you didn't pay for the express processing or shipping so stop bitching about it. I don't know how they decide on what gets free shipping and what doesn't, but newegg has always had pretty compettive prices and excellent service from what I have experienced, and so no I don't believe they add the cost of their 'free' shipping onto the price of the product.
